I installed dovecot at a customers and it is not working.
Neither the 1.0.alpha4 (Debian testing) nor the 1.0.beta2 (Debian unstable) do.
in /var/log/mail.err I get following error message over and over again:

Preexec on Profiles
I'm trying to get a preexec line to work on Profiles when a windows XP
system logs in. The line and script are the same as we used to use on the
"homes" share with WIndows 98 clients on samba 2. However I cannot seem to
make the preexec line trigger either on login or by explicitly mounting the
share.
Here's the bit from my smb.conf

Profiles and PDC
We have severla samba servers which we've just tried to upgrade to using the
domain based security.
Most things seem to be fine but there is one problem which is causing some
trouble.
Roaming profiles are decalred on the PDC to be:
logon path = \\ufs.%G\%U\Profiles
which resolves to a folder called Profiles in the users home directory.
The server ufs.%G is not the same server as

Samba 3.0.8 breaks all printing from Windows 98
We have small panic here as we've just put samba 3.0.8 up to fix the DoS
attack but all printing from Windows 98 has now broken. Printing from
Windows XP is still working fine.
We're running on Fedora 2 using LPRng. Everything was working fine under
3.0.7 and no changes to the OS or the config files was made. Samba was
upgraded to 3.0.8 using the configure line from the 3.0.7

PATCH: Performance improvement for parameterised include path names
I posted last week regarding a bug in the way that smb was re-reading
our config files every 60 seconds even though the files were not
changing.
As a result we had 396 smbd processes trying to read three files at the
same moment with the obvious load average.
The reason that all the smbd's were running at the same moment is
because the smbd's read the config files every 60 seconds

Error question?
Mar 9 16:15:19 bob dovecot: imap(username): file mbox-sync-rewrite.c:

Getting these errors like crazy. Any ideas?
Thanks!

Major samba load caused by re-reading of the configuration file
We're running samba-2.2.3a-6 from the redhat 7.3 distribution.
Periodically we see a massive load on our server which then quickly goes
away. I've spent some time trying to diagnose where the problem is and
it appears to be caused by every smb process on the machine (all 360 of
them) re-reading the config file at the same moment.
THe problem is I cannot see why this should happen and

CentOS 7 debuginfo repo
Hi
I've just been looking for the debuginfo packages for CentOS 7 (I'm using
systap in an attempt to judge the performance of some new tape drives), but
upon enabling the debug repo, I just get a 404 looking for the repo's
metadata. Any clues on where I might be able to get these packages?
Thanks

beta7: assert, Solaris 9
Hi,
An assertion that I haven't seen before:
Apr 20 11:15:32 emerald dovecot: [ID 107833 mail.error] IMAP(user): file
mbox-sync-rewrite.c: line 106 (mbox_sync_headers_add_space): assertion
failed: (start_pos < data_size)
gdb output from the core file of imap is attached. My setup:
Solaris 9, mbox format, INBOX is NFS mounted from a Solaris 10
system, imap and imaps only.

Asserion Failure in Current CVS
Just installed the version from CVS as of Oct. 27.
I noticed three problems quite quickly:
Still seeing "(imap) killed with signal 14"
My INBOX closed with "access error" after reading it for a bit. There's
nothing in the logs or anything, but this hasn't happened for quite a
while now. There where quite a lot of incoming messages at the time and

Incase anyone is interested this issue was caused by turning on brick

Switching it off made the problem go away...

Problem manipulating files when a replica is down
We currently have a small pilot gluster setup as Replica 2 + 1 (arbiter)
As a DR test we decided to see that to see what would happen when taking
one of the replicas offline. For the first couple of hours everything
seemed fine and then one of my colleagues tried to a directory with files
via samba from a windows client by using robocopy.
At this point it starting to go wrong. The brick went

Fwd: Weird problem opening mbox in beta1/2
Hmm, this is peculiar!
This mailbox has been unchanged on my test server since September. I've
been using it to test each new version of Dovecot just after I've
compiled it.
When beta1 was released, I opened this mbox with no problems. However,
when I upgraded to beta2, I got "file size unexpectedly shrinked in mbox
file /export/mail/a/24/vis99003/INBOX (16895967 vs 16899267)".

iozone remove_suid oops...
Having done a current checkout, creating a new FS and running iozone
[1] on it results in an oops [2]. remove_suid is called, accessing
offset 14 of a NULL pointer.
Let me know if you''d like me to test any fix, do further debugging or
get more information.
Thanks,
Daniel

calculating similarity/distance among hierarchically classified items
This is a question about how to calculate similarities/distances
among items that are classified by hierarchical attributes
for the purpose of visualizing the relations among items by means
of clustering, MDS, self-organizing maps, and so forth.
I have a set of ~260 items that have been classified using two sets of
hierarchically-organized codes on the basis of form and content. The
