local rimapd not working with 1.1.1, fatal error
Hi all,
I just upgraded a couple of Fedora 9 workstations to try out 1.1.1 over
NFS'd homedir's and I'm having trouble running dovecot in the same
configuration we were with 1.0.14.
It's fairly simple, we use pine/alpine and set a couple of variables to
fork rimapd directly:
* smtp-server=host (for the main mail machine)
* user-domain=host (same)
* set the

Dovecot index, NFS, and multiple architectures
Hi all,
I crawled through the archives for a bit but didn't see anything
helpful, so I apologize if this has already been addressed. We've been
dying to move from Courier to Dovecot across our whole infrastructure
for quite some time, but until recently our setup wasn't possible until
this happened:
"Dovecot allows mailboxes and their indexes to be modified by multiple

Linux users and Samba 4
I have a LAN of linux and win7 clients currently with Samba 3.6 and
LDAP. Linux users authenticate against LDAP and are placed in their
nfs'd /home folder. The same user can also logon to windows. His roaming
profile is stored in his /home folder. (something like .msprofile_v2)
How do I transfer my current Linux/Samba 3/LDAP users over to
Linux/Samba 4?
Thanks.
Steve.

saving files from Office to Samba share (not NFS'd)
Hi all,
I'm having problems saving files from Office 2000 to any Samba share on
our Slackware 7.1 box running Samba v2.2.2
When I go to File>Save As in Word, then select the mapped drive (samba
share - drive X), I get this message:
"The Folder 'X:\' isn't accessible. The folder may be located on an
unavailable volume or protected with a password."
I also have another

Samba 4 DC - File locking problems when a client crashes
We are using Samba 4.1.4 as a standalone domain controller for 50 Windows 7 Clients.
If a client crashes or the user hasn't shutdown his computer correctly, smbstatus shows still
many open files from this user. (like desktop shotcuts, firefox profile and so on.)
When this user starts his computer again, Windows can't access these files anymore, all desktop shutcuts are missing
and Firefox

SOLVED : (NEW Printing FAQ Question) : After almost every reboot, Samba printing is DOA under Solaris 2.6...
Ok.. Just a little follow-up on my Solaris printing problem that I was
having!
As it turns out, I put the fully-qualified path names to the print commands
(lpr/lpq/lprm, etc) in the samba config file (smb.conf) and all of my
printing
problems have disappeared! Now, after a clean reboot of the OS (Solaris,
not PC), I can log on to Samba and directly print -- instead of it silently
failing!

ADA: DOA?
Hey, all. While ADA can still be downloaded, that's about all that I see.
No development, no recent mention, and -- perhaps worst of all -- it
appears not to work properly under 64-bit systems. So, assuming Digium's
abandoned it, are there any suggestions of alternatives? Right now, I'm
replacing a Shoretel system, and I'd *dearly* love to avoid the incredibly
fat client they

domain logins fail - nmbd doa
This is still a apain, nmbd just dies off and therefore fails domain
logins..
log shows:
*****
[2004/06/26 19:43:15, 0] nmbd/nmbd.c:reload_interfaces(263)
reload_interfaces: No subnets to listen to. Shutting down...
then next day when ppl boot up their horrid XP boxes and try login we
need to restart samba for them, this is a very big pain being daily event.

POP3 locking
I'm trying to understand what dovecot's behavior will be in a given
scenario to see if it will work as a (hopefully better) replacement for
the home-grown pop3 server we currently use.
User A is on a slow dialup connection, and uses, oh, let's say Outlook,
since that's where most of our problems seem to spring from. User A
uses outlook to download his mail over pop3. Half

mess
I forgot to present the problem of wine failure to launch also to the wine
list.
While my amd64 debian etch is in order, 32 bit debian etch has suffered much
and is now in a state of semi-mess.
Kernel booted is

but
#aptitude
shows also a collection of kernels, partly broken:

After almost every reboot, Samba printing is DOA under Solaris 2.6...
I just thought that I would put this out there and see if anyone else
sees this problem with Samba 1.9.18p4 (under Solaris 2.6).
It appears that after some reboots of Solaris, Samba printing is partly
dead. What I see in the logs are below, and what happens is that the
file to be printed is spooled to /var/spool/samba, like always, but
when the lpr command is issued it croaks. I've been

No xen kernel image for k7 anymore!
Package: linux-source-2.6
Version: 2.6.18.dfsg.1-11
Severity: important
Tag: etch
With 2.6.18-4 Debian switched from non-pae to pae-only xen kernels. This means
that xen is not useable anymore for many users, which were able to use
non-pae kernels without a problem for a long time till now.
In my opinion this is a critical issue, because it makes xen unusable for
about maybe 10-30% of all

NFSv4 and locking
Greetings,
We use NFSv4 on our cluster and perform distributed indexing (well, we
used to on our previous system which used a simple touch() locking
mechanism).
I'm having a spot of bother getting Xapian to obtain a lock (hangs on
fcntl64()).
I've read http://trac.xapian.org/wiki/XapianOverNFS and other list
posts, and noted that a lock daemon should be running to allow locks
