login_process_per_user referred to but not present in dovecot.conf?
Hi,
I find login_process_per_user referred to in the comments in
dovecot.conf, but never set. Is this a typo and should it be
login_process_per_connection or what?
Thanks,
Rob

buglet in dovecot.conf, 1.0alpha1
Timo,
The dovecot.conf file comments talk about login_process_per_user
but this variable does not appear in the file. Do you mean
login_process_per_connection instead?

Mail always is delivered to /var/mail/
Hey,
I am setting up Dovecot on Debian with Postfix. I am telling Dovecot
to use maildir:~/Maildir but it persists in dumping mail in mbox format
in /var/mail/username. Can anyone suggest ideas? My config file is
attached.
Thanks
Kevin

Dovecot startup at boottime fails
Hi,
I am running dovecot 0.99.10.4 on SuSE 9. I installed it using apt-get from
the gwdg repository.
The dovecot service is configured to start at boottime in run level 3 and 5.
However, it dies immediately with this error (/var/log/mail.err):
dovecot: Login process died too early - shutting down
Starting the service afterwords from a prompt as root with the command:
/etc/init.d/dovecot

Ordering mailboxes
I have a really weird problem. To whit:
I compiled dovecot 0.99.10 on two different systems: a linux-ppc box running
Debian, and a Mac OS X Server v. 10.2.8. It compiled fine on both.
The same Maildir's are being served up on both -- the OS X server exports
home directories to the clients via NFS.
BUT the OS X box orders mailboxes this way:
INBOX
Deleted Items
Sent Items

IMAP folders missing after migrating to Dovecot
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
Hello all,
I'm migrating to Dovecot from Courier-IMAP. I use Postfix with Maildir
for delivery.
When I use Dovecot as the IMAP server all of my folders are missing, the
only thing that remains is the Inbox folder.
Has anyone else experienced this issue? I have enclosed my configuration.
Thanks,
Chris

dovecot/openldap auth problems?
Hi folks.
New to both dovecot and openldap. Trying to set up virtual domains
using the wanderingbarque howto:
http://www.wanderingbarque.com/mailserver.html
Platform is RH enterprise 3.
Only difference is I'm trying to use phamm instead of jamm:
http://phamm.rhx.it/
dovecot doesn't seem to want to play nice with my openldap; everything
else (postfix, etc) seems to work alright.

Moving messages takes a longgggggg..... time. (Timeouts?) dovecot.conf help?
Hi,
I'm trying to get dovecot set up better. I am using 1.0alpha3. It
takes a long long time to move messages for some reason. It seems it
may be a timeout thing, because neither the client or server is using
any cpu time or disk i/o or network to speak of. (To move maybe 400
messages, it seems to take maybe half an hour, maybe longer.) With
alpha 2 I was getting messages from

Links on MainConfig wiki page not working
Hi all,
while looking through the wiki page MainConfig, I noticed a lot of
wannabe-links, for example:
<doc/wiki/SSL>
This looks like it should have been converted to a wiki link automatically,
but apparently isn't. Would be good to have this fixed?

http://wiki.dovecot.org/MainConfig
is there a reference for dovecot 2.0 in the new wiki? If not, when will
be this page online? Thanks a lot.

Pam trouble
Hi folks,
I can't get dovecot to authenticate properly against ldap/pam.
I've been fiddling with it for several days now, to no avail. It keeps crashing
with:
Child died with signal 11
The system is Solaris9. Enclosed is a trace of dovecot-auth for a connection to
pop with correct username and password and my config.
Any help is appreciated.

Documentation clarifiction on mmap_disable
Greetings,
On http://wiki.dovecot.org/MainConfig I read:
"mmap_disable = no
Don't use mmap() at all. This is required if you store indexes to
shared filesystems (NFS or clustered filesystem). "
Does that mean:
1. mmap is required when using NFS or
2. it is required to don't use mmap at all when using NFS?
Sorry if this is obvious. Best regards.

Custom auth process in dovecot 2
Hi,
I'm trying to upgrade from dovecot-1.1.x to 2.1.7.
We have our own custom auth server process (because we want to do our own password validation and for other reasons) that listens on a UNIX domain socket and speaks the dovecot auth protocol.
In dovecot 1.1 we could configure this with
auth external {
socket connect {
master {
path = /var/run/dovecot/auth.sock
}
}

Tuning Login processes for High-performance Mode
Hi,
I'm working for tuning a busy cluster of dovecot servers. Heach server

Debian 6.0 and dovecot version is 1.2.15.
I am unsure how to set "login_max_processes_count" and
"login_max_connections" for reach the best situation when
login_process_per_connection is set to no.
I don't know what

zlib plugin nad moving mails, bug?
Hi,
Recently I gzipped mails older than 30 days in our users' maildirs. I used
find and gzip. Gzip added 'Z' at the end of the filename and everything
seemed to work fine, users did not notice any difference in performance
(yet :-), and I saved about 30% of our mail storage space.
There seems to be a problem when moving gzipped messages from one folder to
another though. Dovecot

SSL and login_process_per_connection = no
Just thought I'd check, but is the combination of SSL and
"login_process_per_connection = no" expected?
I'm wondering, because imap_login is doing the SSL-proxying, and in our
live Dovecot instance we have "login_process_per_connection = no" (we
had problems with authentication and running out of file descriptors
early on, now fixed by using userdb = passwd-file rather
