I can not get any scriptaculous effects to finish with items visible
I''m sorry I can''t seem to get any of the scriptaculous effects to work correctly. I''ve searched on the web forum but found nothing relevant. The only time I get an HTML element to fade or shrink gracefully is when I use them as inline handlers and feed them ''this'' instead of the HTML element id. But I can not get anything to appear. Things disappear but

rsync-2.6.1pre-1 hang
Hi, I am running mentioned rsync version in daemon mode on a x86 machine which is a Gentoo Linux running kernel 2.4.26 and glibc 2.3.3_pre20040207. During the sync from another machine, the rsync daemon hangs; client receives no data and server waits on select() call. when this happens, rsync server process can only be killed by SIGKILL; no timeout occurs on server side. ssh is not being used for

JS Input/Validation Library
Does anyone has any thoughts about starting a project to simplify client-side form validation and input? I started thinking about this because I think date input in most web applications is broken. I really like Simon Willison''s demo: http://simon.incutio.com/code/js/date-parser/ I think this could be improved (by mapping say shift+left-arrow to the previous day, and

FYI: watch out for google's web accelerator - can empty your app of data
Hi All, A co-worker passed this info on to me: http://37signals.com/svn/archives2/google_web_accelerator_hey_not_so_fast_an_alert_for_web_app_designers.php The Skinny: Google has a "Web Accelerator" that pre-caches pages by following url''s. If you have any plain/simple URL''s that don''t take paramaters (like what often happens in rails apps), it will try to

Code blocks
Hello, In November 2005, there was a discussion on this list regarding code blocks. The suggestion was to use: ```(test) here it is ``` which becomes: <pre class="test"><code> here it is </code></pre> However, a textile format for this already exists elsewhere (see [1]), which I think is more appropriate: bc.(test) here it is Note the similarity between bc.

samba over pptp
Hi, I am trying to get samba to work over a pptp link to win9x boxes. I have the pptp link working, but I am unable to get at the shares. Could someone point me in the direction of documentation about the best way to set this up. Thanks Jeff Meeks jmeekssr@net-serv.com

Sidebar to Systemtap and Dtrace Comparison
My leaky memory says we moved entry-point into some form of debug record in the standard libraries, circa Solaris 8/9. Before that, my group maintained text files that listed all the entry-points and their parameters for libraries like libc.so, so that we could print out parameter values in apptrace(8). There''s a (small) chance the records are complete enough that dtrace could use the

No subject
Its really a matter of developing an intuitive method of interaction with t= he environment. Its very feasible and something that is easily realised. = The methods are tried and tested in games systems, 3D editors and even 3D f= ile managers. Thus, there are no new technical aspects, its merely the pac= kaging of those features into a desktop interface. The business applicatio= ns can be

native xml db for rails
Hey, I''m an xmldb newb, as I expect most are since xquery only got nailed a few months ago. I know nothing more than reading around the subject and a couple of hours tinkering with sleepycats offering. Enough though to make me realise the potential of an xml database though. I dont really have a spare supercomputer to parse xml documents to compete with a relational database on speed but

Raw Speex?
I would guess that the sampleenc and sampledec programs (I think they're in the doc dir) would be closer to what you want. Supported DSPs
I don't know all the details, but here's a (partial) list of archs on which I've heard of Speex running. I'm sure there are others (especially the float version should really run on any chip with an FPU). float: x86/x86-64 (SSE assembly optimizations provided) PowerPC SPARC fixed: ARM (v4 and v5E) (assembly optimizations provided) Blackfin (assembly optimizations provided) TI

DTrace unconference?
All, With Jon Haslam''s exciting news about the DTrace doc wiki (if you haven''t seen it yet, make your way to http://wikis.sun.com/display/DTrace), and with some of the discussion with the Apple folks, I''m wondering if the time isn''t right for something of a DTrace summit, perhaps as an unconference. The idea here would not be a DTrace user group (though that
