deleting Cyrus mailbox with empty name
A junior administrator of mine mistakenly created a mailbox
with an empty name, by typing into cyradm the commands:
createmailbox user/$lb
setquota user/$lb 10000
He will of course shortly receive an extra lesson on shell
variables, but meanwhile I find myself confronted with the
problem how to get rid of the mailbox he created. So far
all attempts have failed:

shared folders not working with . separator
Thanks, this helped.
I added namespace virtual and removed the virtual references from inbox
namespace and added list = yes so now I can see shared folder in the client.
There's still nothing in there though.
I followed Christian's advice, debug shows this very strange behaviour.
doveadm acl debug -u user1 at domain1.com.au shared.user2 at domain2.com.au

dovecot and vmailmgr
hello
now that dovecot supports authentication with checkpassword-compatible
modules, I tried to get it working for IMAP on a qmail + vmailmgr
server.
For a subtle detail, while claiming to be "a drop-in replacement for
the standard
checkpassword", checkvpw (auth module for vmailmgr) is not "drop in".
It actually
expects 2 args on its command line, not 1. So, a wrapper

Authentication Problems.
Hey-
I'm kinda new to Dovecot and I'm trying to do something and it seems
I've hit a wall. I put together a server with Fedora Core 2, Exim 4.34,
and Dovecot 0.99.10.6 and I need support mail for multiple domains so
this is how I have my virtual setup:

Tukey.aov with split-plot designs
I am using R 1.1 with Redhat 6.2 and RW 1.001 with Win98 (the upkey doesn't
work on my IBM either as has been previously reported by others).
The function aov doesn't return either the residuals or the residual
degrees of freedom for split-plot designs.

Issue with converting users from cyrus user.domain.com
I have been using cyrus for the past 6 years, but it is a pain to config. So
... I just installed dovecot 1.0.15 on a new debian 4r7 box.
In cyrus we were using usernames as "user.domain.tld".
In dovecot I realize I can:
auth_username_translation = .@
But this converts user.domain.tld to user at domain@tld which of course fails.
Is there a regex or something I can apply to pull this

auth_username_translation and LTMP problem
auth_username_translation seems to be appliet on RCPT TO address of LTMP
transport.
Why dovecot is doing that?
And better question - is there a way to disable auth_username_translation for
LTMP but leave enabled for the rest (imap, pop3 etc) ?
Background:
I'm doing
auth_username_translation = @=
to allow logins like aaa at bbb.pl to be internally translated to aaa=bbb.pl.
That works

Loginname - mapping
Hi!
I have a server with a few thousand mailboxes (for a few hundred
domains) on it. The usernames are following several naming conventions:
username_domain
domain_username
username_domain.tld
username-domain
domain.username
The reason for this chaos is that the accounts were set up on different
mailservers, some imail, some linux, some with virtualmin and some
manually and

postfix, dovecot, samba, winbind
Hello List,
we're currently working on the migration of our LDAP/Samba3-Domain to Samba4-Active-Directory. So far everything works fine. Postfix can deliver Mails using ProxyAddresses-Information from the AD and Dovecot delivers the mail.
Unfortunately when Postfix tells Dovecot to deliver the mail he submit the username without the AD-Domain part:

More Dovecot 2.0 permissions issues
Hi Timo,
ok, using the latest 2.0beta6...
I can't figure out the settings for the log file to have the correct
permissions. When the log file is created, it is created owned by root
and 0600 permissions, which doesn't allow the lda to write to it if I
use different users and groups for that main config...
If I then chmod the log file to 666, then everything is happy, but
again, if that

doveadm purge -A via doveadm-proxy director fails after some users
Hi,
we have configured userdb and passdb in the director and try to
iterate all users and pass the "purge" command via doveadm proxy to
port 19000 on the correct director backend host.
A single purge -u username at example.org via doveadm-proxy works correctly,
but iterating over some users with -A fails.
Note: users/domains have been anonymized in output:

So we have two different Samba servers we are trying to connect to what was
originally a Windows 2003 AD and was raised to 2008R2 (both Forest and

(We really only need to connect one of them - the one hosting Samba 4.7.6).
Any ideas or suggestions are helpful! We've scoured the lists (Rowland -
you are amazing), but still not found what is wrong (we think it is

Prohibit removing INBOX
Hello list,
I'm using dovecot 1.1.11 and I'm going to prohibit users to remove
their INBOX and some other directories in the mailbox root.
I used Access Control Lists (http://wiki.dovecot.org/ACL) to do this:
protocol imap {
mail_plugins = acl
}
plugin {
# With global ACLs in /etc/dovecot/acls/ directory:
acl = vfile:/etc/dovecot/acls
}
/etc/dovecot/acls/.DEFAULT:

[LLVMdev] Proposed: first class packed structures
Currently, Structure layout is left to targets, which implement them
according to the ABI of that platform. While this is fine for most
structures, it makes packed structures very ugly. All fields in a
packed type must be converted to byte arrays with casts to access
fields, which bloats accesses and obsfucates the types. First class
support for packed types would clean up the generated code
