Exim Dovecot Authentication Problem
Having a hard time figuring out something that is supposed to be easy. Tryiong to configure Dovecot so that it provides authentication to Exim for outgoing smtp. Tried different things and getting authentication socket protocol error dovecot_plain: driver = dovecot public_name = PLAIN server_socket = /var/run/dovecot/auth-client server_set_id = $auth1 auth default { # Space

SSL error after upgrading to 2.31
After upgrading to 2.31 I'm getting this error. Not sure what I'm doing wrong. Thinking Outside the Box - Extending IMAP
Here's some thoughts I'd like to throw out there. I know it's not standard IMAP protocol but someone has to try new ideas first and I want to see what people (Timo) think of this. IMAP establishes a connection between the client and the server. Wouldn't it be great if it could be a conduit to let custom Thunderbird plugins talk to custom server application over the IMAP

Will pay $500 towards a Dovecot feature
10 days ago I proposed this addition (see below) to Dovecot and got a lot of positive response. I would like to make it happen. I'm willing to contribute $500 to the development of this feature. It doesn't have to be implemented perfectly but needs to be workable to the extent that I can telnet into the Dovecot server and run it manually from the command line. I want to at least be

Compiling under Fedora Core 4 - Problem
OK - trying to migrate to dovecot and I like what I see so far, but having a hard time getting it to work. I decided to go with the 1.0 version because I need to get away from the ~/Mail namespace. I'm trying to port from a Linuxconf virtual WU-IMAP type config. So - I compiled but then decided I wanted mysql so I tried to reconfigure and now getting compile errors. Looks like I'm

Master User Features I'd like to see
Here's what I'd like. Limited master users, where someone can be a master users for some domains but not others. I think I could do what I want with the right kinds of variable passing that doesn't yet exist. Let me see if I can explain clearly. From the example in the wiki: auth_master_user_separator = * passdb { driver = sql args = /etc/dovecot/dovecot-sql-master.conf.ext

dovecot: imap-login: Error: net_connect_unix(imap) failed: Resource temporarily unavailable
We recently switched over mail servers to one running dovecot and postfix on RedHat Enterprise 6. The mail store is NFS on a NetApp filer, the index files are on local disk. We have about 6000 total active users, though not all of them access the system at the same time. All goes well for a while, then we start seeing errors like this in the log: dovecot: imap-login: Error:

Master user and non-plaintext auth does not work
Hi, I want to use CRAM-MD5 or DIGEST-MD5 (non-plaintext) authentication for master users, but Dovecot 2.2.13 rejects it with the following log: Sep 1 06:18:08 localhost dovecot: auth: passwd-file(masteruser,10.0.1.20,master,<ZA1s9/oBgAAKAAEU>): Master user logging in as u0001 Sep 1 06:18:08 localhost dovecot: auth: cram-md5(u0001 at example.jp,10.0.1.20,<ZA1s9/oBgAAKAAEU>):

ACL ignored for master users
Hi there! I can't get ACL working for master users. Login as master user works fine though, and I am able to access any mailbox using the auth_master_user_separator "*", tested e.g. via Python's imaplib: import imaplib imap = imaplib.IMAP4_SSL('imap.example.com') imap.login('foo at example.com*admin-acldemo', '**********') ('OK', [b'Logged

How to use Master Users.
Hi. I'm testing out the new 'master users' feature, and I'm not having any luck getting it to work. Anyone out there using it yet? Here's what I have so far: dovecot.conf: ------------ auth_master_user_separator = * auth default { passdb passwd-file { # Master users that can login as anyone else args = /etc/dovecot/dovecot.masterusers master = yes

Master User Question
OK - I'm trying to do weird stuff so rather not answer why I'm doing this. Trying to log in using a master user: user at example.com*master at master.com When debugging the master authenticates - but then it tries to authenticate user at example.com and it's not found. And - it is true that the user doesn't actually exist. What I want to do is allow it to log in without

Problem Authenticating with Master User
Dovecot provides a master login (a master user name and password that can log into all user accounts). I've setup Dovecot as per: http://wiki1.dovecot.org/Authentication/MasterUsers Here's my problem. The only way I can authenticate successfully is if I try to authenticate through telnet twice. Also, imapsync (the tool I need to use to migrate over emails from Dovecot to other mail
