transfer users and password form win NTto linux files erver
Once you have the samba set up with winbind (use samba 3.0alphaxx), you could use getent passwd and getent group to get all the users and group information. There are freeware nt password cracking programs that you can use if you are admin on the nt box to crack and get a list of all users' passwords. I suppose you could create then all the users and groups on the samba box. Have a look at

password length of sip peer
I'm trying to figure out the maximum length of a cisco 7960 password in the SIP<mac>.cfg file. An Aastra9133i can take at least a 36-character password, but the cisco craps out (can't authenticate) In order to stop me from doing a brute-force test, does anyone know the password lengths of Aastra 9133i Grandstream gxp2010 Cisco 7960/7940 ? Breaking Windows XP user password?
Granted this is not a UNIX system, but in case there is a UNIX tool to accomplish the goal... I am looking for a bootable CD/DVD (or application to be placed on a CD/DVD to be made bootable) that can let me mount a Windows XP drive/partition (SP1 or SP2), and force-crack the admin password (even if admin account name has been changed, but I know what it has been changed to). The application

maximum password age question
Hello List I am working on upgrading a older Samba 3.0.16 setup that uses openldap as its back-end for passwords and users. I built a clone of our setup using CentOS 5.6 and Openldap 2.4.20 , with Samba 3.6.1 . My issue. After successfully building and install Samba users can not authenticate to the server. They are prompted with errors about Needing to change their password. Looking at my

Your password expires today problem
Hi, I currently migrate an existant earlier SAMBA (Version 2.2.9) / OpenLDAP (slapd 2.2.26) configuration to SAMBA (Version 3.0.25b-0.4E.6) / OpenLDAP (slapd 2.4.11). To preserve the compatibility with my schema.v2, my new smb.conf now contains : passdb backend = ldapsam_compat:ldap://w.x.y.z:389 (where w.x.y.z is the ldap server) Simultaneously, for same reason, i kept uncommented the

Questions about Active Directory Password Cache overlay
Thanks to Buchan Milne, I'm looking into the Active Directory Password Cache overlay for OpenLDAP, which seems to offer more or less what I'm trying to do. Is anyone here experienced with it? Is this the right place to ask or is there an openLDAP overlays list? I understand this description of ADPC: Active Directory Password Cache =============================== Active

Password aging ...
Greetings ... A quick question more to confirm a few things reguarding SMB passwords, which I hope might be able to look at for password aging. I saw some discussion on samba-tech list, but nothing conclusive. LM and NT hashs don't have a salt? Do they? ... In other words, a password "password" LM hashed, always comes out as "E52CAC67419A9A224A3B108F3FA6CB6D" not
