Dovecot login slow
Can't figure out why the login is slow. I telnet to port 143 on localhost. I type: 0 login user password Takes about 10 seconds and it lets me in. I'm using MYSQL and it's a small indexed database on a fast server so it's not the mysql query that's slowing it down. At least I don't think it is. But - kind of stumped. Just wondering if there's something obvious

Dovecot Version Numbers - Let's drop the Alpha?
I'd like to make a suggestion. Let's drop the Alpha and come out with an official version 1.0. Here's my reasons. The 0.9x version are obsolete and people should be using the 1.0 Alpha versions which seem to me to do everything the previous versions did and more. It's as full featured and stable as all other IMAP servers and in my opinion is ready to be called 1.0. The

linux 2.4 vs 2.6 kernel
hi I read ( I think in dovecot wiki) that ext2 or ext3 fs on a 2.4 kernel can get slow due to the number of files in a directory. Does anyone know if kernel 2.6 has similar limitation? I'm not at that point now, but before the box goes live, I'm wondering if I should resolve that. Glenn

Dovecot 1.08 seems very slow
I know I'm late reporting this but 1.08 seems really slow. It seems like it is as slow as some of the early RCs were. Wish I had more info. Using Maildir format.

Dovecot Deliver?
I guess Dovecot has an LDA called deliver. What is it and how do I use it? Or is it ready to be used. can't find any docs on it. -- Marc Perkel - marc at perkel.com Spam Filter: http://www.junkemailfilter.com My Blog: http://marc.perkel.com

Feature Request - Load Throttling
If you aleady are doing this - then thanks. But here's a feature I'd like to see. Rsync often puts a lot of load on the system because of high disk access. I'd like to see rsync become "load aware" and to slow itself down under high load levels. Seems to me that it could be something fairly easy to add to have it check the load levels and back down so as not to slow

Maildir feature I'd like to see - SSD for newer messages
SSD drives are very fast but expensive. So I have a crude idea that I'd like to see. May not be practical but would like to get some thoughts on it. Some new SSDs use SATA 3 (6gb/sec) with 355/mb/sec read speeds and 215MB/sec write. Put these in raid 0 and it screams! Can you imagine how fast that would be? What would be nice is if new email were on faster drives with old email being

Using MySQL to store email?
So Timo, Have you considered the idea of storing all the email in a MySQL database? Seems to me that MySQL could somplify all the backend stuff that everyone struggles with and with replication one could create very massive and reliable systems. What would it take to use MySQL that way?

Windows XP slow with samba-2.2.7 from RH7.3
Hi. I posted last week a question about a network with some XP PCs. One PC connects fine to the samba server, but the other one is quite slow, almost unusable. There are also Win98 hosts running fine. Someone kindly answered he had the same problem, and solved it upgrading to samba-3 beta. I can't put beta software on this server. Do I have any other option ? Here is an extract of the

Will pay $500 towards a Dovecot feature
10 days ago I proposed this addition (see below) to Dovecot and got a lot of positive response. I would like to make it happen. I'm willing to contribute $500 to the development of this feature. It doesn't have to be implemented perfectly but needs to be workable to the extent that I can telnet into the Dovecot server and run it manually from the command line. I want to at least be

Integrating 1.1-beta
Hello, We've been using Opus for VoIP calls in Jitsi and we're very happy with the sound quality it provides. Thank you for the great work! We are thinking of updating to 1.1-beta and wanted to know if there's any reason not to do so at this point, and wait for the 1.1 release instead. Is the beta expected to be as stable as the 1.0.x series, or are there any known flaws still to

RC1 broken - Authentication Failed
Works great with all the beta versions. I installed RC1 and get massive authentication failures. auth_debug_passwords = yes auth_master_user_separator=* auth default_with_listener { mechanisms = plain passdb passwd-file { # Master users that can log in as anyone args = /etc/dovecot.masterusers master = yes #pass =yes } passdb passwd-file { # Path for passwd-file

DON'T DELETE THIS MESSAGE?
I have a new install of FC5 running dovecot 1.0.0 beta 2.7. I get my mail with POP3 but I have a user using IMAP. They both work great but I keep getting a message from dovecot in my mail saying DON'T DELETE THIS MESSAGE -- FOLDER INTERNAL DATA. I think it is there to help keep track of IMAP messages. Since I use POP3 is there any way not to have it show up all the time? I've

Authentication feature I need
OK - here's whay I need to make it work for my Linuxconf compatible authentication system. First - a question: Will this work? I can find docs on "virtualfile. auth virtualfile { mechanisms = plain digest-md5 userdb = passwd-file /etc/vmail/passwd.%d passdb = passwd-file /etc/vmail/shadow.%d user = root } Then - since the dmain name selects the passwd file, if there were a

R-1.9.0 Beta print.power.htest problem?
Hi all, I just used power.t.test() in Version 1.9.0 beta (2004-03-31) today under FC1. Speex beta 3 is out
Hi, I'd like to announce Speex beta 3: This is the third beta for Speex, implementing what should be the last new features before 1.0. These new features are a new "ultra-wideband" mode for encoding at 32 kHz (up to 48 kHz) and an intensity stereo mode. Both of these are implemented to preserve both backward and forward compatibility with other releases. This means that it is now

[OT] debugging rails apps with kodomo 3.5 beta for windows
Hi Group, Has anyone experimented with Kodomo 3.5 Beta for Windows? I''m totally new to the Kodomo IDE, but I''ve figured out how to debug my Rails app locally. (I have followed the instructions in the User Guide to determine how to debug Rails apps with Kodomo.) But, it is incredibly slow for me. For example, it takes probably 20 to 30 seconds to go from one page to another when
