dovecot auth using passwd-file
Im a dovecot newbie and need a little help with the passwd-like file
auth mechanism in dovecot
I got dovecot to work fine with regular /etc/passwd file auth .. so I
wanted to start using another authentication store for virtual users.
So .. I created a /etc/dovecot-passdb file and plopped in an encrypted
password using md5crypt.
Here are the appropriate lines from the dovecot.conf file

Problems finding information on passwd-file
I've recently converted over to dovecot to uw-imap, and am having a
heck of a time trying to find actual docs that describe how to set up
virtual users properly without using ldap or posgres.. Basically I need to
know what goes in auth_userdb and auth_passdb for a system with *NO* local
user accounts in /etc/passwd and /etc/shadow. I will only create mbox files
for these users in /var/mail/%u

Help with dovecot+passwd+pam_mysql
Hi again,
I'm on Freebsd 4.x and instead of using the mysql patch, it seems like
it would be easier to just use "auth_passdb = pam *" with the pam_mysql
drop-in.
I'm not really a pam.conf writing expert though. Here's what it
currently contains (works for /etc/passwd users)
imap auth required pam_unix.so
imap account required pam_unix.so

Dovecot configuration with passwd-file
I have tried to configure dovecot to use passwd-file authentication and I
havent been able to. I changed the following in the dovecot.conf file (I
want to have all the mailboxes in one directory):
default_mail_env = maildir:/opt/mail/%u
auth_userdb = passwd-file /etc/passwd.imap
auth_passdb = passwd-file /etc/passwd.imap
auth_verbose = yes
It gives me the following error (I hoped it would be

hey friends,

and password database as pam(auth_passdb = pam) for dovecot. I read

strwidth and strheight for rotated text
Dear All,
I would like to plot text with a box around it. I used strwidth and
strheight to compute the size of the box which is plotted with rect:
z <- rnorm(10)
# horizontal text works
plot(rnorm(10))
x1 <- 5
y1 <- 0
label <- "Label"
cha <- paste(" ", label, " ", sep = "")
xh <- strwidth(cha, cex = par("cex"))

Passwords in passwd-file
Hi!
I'm trying to use MD5 hashed password in a passwd-file (not the system one).
I've set
auth_userdb = passwd-file /my/passwd/file
auth_passdb = passwd-file /my/passwd/file
auth.txt additionally describes a syntax like:
auth_userdb = passwd-file[34] /my/passwd/file
to denote MD5 passwords in the file, but I've been unable to get any
combination of using []'s after

integrating procmail
Hello, list members!
I'm new to dovecot, and haven't needed to maintain an email server
instance for quite some time.
I recently got a fairly simple postfix + dovecot installation functional
as needed, however I now need to get procmail filtering incoming
mail, and after reading various docs and wikis, I find that I'm still
having a tough time feeling confident on how best to

Hi
1 user has a file username.lock with this inside 30457:proteus2a.obantec.net
proteus2a.obantec.net is the server.
no mail is being delivered to username (mbox style in
/var/spool/mail/username)
there looks to be 66+ emails in the queue "sending" most to his account.

Can't 'save-as' from MS Word
Samba Gurus,
I've got a Solaris box running samba 2.0.7. A couple of users on
Windows XP clients are reporting problems saving files from within MS
Word, and Wordpad to the samba share, which of course is a mapped drive.
They get an error saying "This is not a valid file name".... These XP
boxes do have the reg hacks plainpassword.reg and signorseal.reg
installed. The work around

authentication configuration
I've included the non-defaulted bits of my dovecot.conf file at the
bottom of this email.
As I understand my set-up it's using unix authentication methods
(/etc/passwd via pam?).
Considering disable_plaintext_auth and auth_mechanisms, what exactly is
being passed? I was hoping to get
auth_mechanism = digest-md5
but that's not working out very well right now. It seems I can only

newbie userdb lookup problem
I'm new to Dovecot and I'm having trouble getting basic, flat file userdb
lookups to work. This must have been asked before, but if so, I can't find
it.
I'm following the basic setup here:
http://wiki2.dovecot.org/HowTo/SimpleVirtualInstall with a few minor
differences. Output of doveconf -n is below, as well as relevant entries
from postfix main.cf and master.cf.

clipping off words inside a vector of strings
Hi,
I have a vector of strings (class character) with 6 elements (length
6). I call it 'names'.
"Graham Chapman"
"John Cleese"
"Terry Gilliam"
"Eric Idle"
"Terry Jones"
"Michael Palin"
And I want to turn it into another vector of strings called
'shortnames' with the same length.
The new vector should look like:

passwd syncing?
Can Samba provide a central service for mapping or syncing username and
password across different applications
for example AD users accounts and Lotus Notes "ClientID's" ... (something
just shy of a metadirectory service)
I've used Samba in a past life do something simular and sound like Samba has
matured significantly.
any thoughts ... or am I hunting down the wrong hole
