mbox to maildir conversion - good idea regarding Outlook?
Hi list,
first of all, many thanks to the Dovecot authors for supplying an IMAP
server that works well with M$-Outlook! I have used UW-imapd for quite a
while and was annoyed by frequent "imap...timeout..." error messages.
Now I'd like to give maildir format a try because I want to use email
sub-folders. What are other Outlook users' experiences with maildir? Is

does 2.0.6 fix kill -HUP logrotation?
2.0.5 (on linux) has a small annoyance in that, when the log files get
rotated, kill -HUP won't point the daemons to the new log files. They keeps
logging to the old ones until they are stopped/started. Does 2.0.6 fix this?

X-Status: D
Hello!
I've some folders where I deleted some messages. They are not really
deleted, but have the X-Status: D header field set.
How can I force a real delete in dovecot?
Thank you for the answer.

Permission denied when logrotating dovecot.log
Well, I tried the same but it didn't work.
Setting my dovecot.log to 600 with root:root is breaking my mail system.
I am then unable to receive and open emails.
Had to apply an ugly hack
/var/log/dovecot*.log {
su syslog syslog
create 666 syslog syslog
rotate 10
...
}
Like that anyone who wants to access/write to it, can do it and all works.
That's my

Question about $pat in pop-before-smtp.conf
Hi,
I have setup dovecot to log all successful pop3 and imap logins into
/var/log/mail.log
I want to use pop-before-smtp to process the log file and write a .db
file where sendmail can look up ip addresses that are allowd to relay.
mail.log entries look like this:
dovecot: 2006-01-26 17:22:28 Info: pop3-login: Login: user=<planat25>,
method=PLAIN, rip=213.83.32.125, lip=192.168.1.98

Dovecot logrotation - old journal files are still in use (second attempt)
Hi all
Sorry, it is the second attempt due to wrong format of the first message.
In my Dovecot there are 3 files of logging (debug, info and .log) While executing logrotation, the new files are created, but the previos ones, namely dovecot.*.1 are still in use by the process
Here is the logger process in memory:
root 19140 0.0 0.0 4140 1576 ? S Mar12 0:06 dovecot/log

After logrotation Dovecot still writes to old log file
Hi there
This is weird. On my latest Ubuntu server Dovecot seems to write to
/var/log/dovecot.log.1 instead of a recently created /var/log/dovecot.log
Here my logrotate config for Dovecot:
/var/log/dovecot.log {
??????? su root syslog
??????? rotate 7
??????? missingok
??????? copytruncate
??????? create 666 root syslog
??????? sharedscripts
??????? postrotate

Hi everyone .. need some pro-dovecot arguments :-)
Hi,
i never used dovecot so far, but i heard a couple good things about it
.. for one the debian maintainer of the exim package recommended it :-)
so i want to change our mailserver (currently using ipop3 and uw-imap)
to dovecot ... now my boss seems to favour cyrus.
i could use some good arguments for dovecot, also your experiences with
it and with other mailservers so i can make a

logrotate script error
Hey guys,
I'm trying to rotate a logstash log that can grow pretty large. 3.4GB last
I saw!
And that's because the logrotate script I came up with didn't work.
The error I get on a syntax check is this:
#logrotate -f logstash
size: '100M': No such file
size: '100M': No such file
size: '100M': No such file

Problem with tinc.log and logrotate.
Hi everyone again.
I run tinc with the following command:
/usr/sbin/tincd -d1 --logfile=/var/log/tinc.log
That creates the file "/var/log/tinc.log" correctly and reports into it.
Well, because I want to have a log file by day, I have created a logrotate
file (/etc/logrotate.d/tinc) that contains the following lines:
-----------------------------------------
/var/log/tinc.log {

Dovecot handles the following signals as described:
USR1 Force dovecot to reopen all configured log files
(log_path, info_log_path and debug_log_path).
So, you need to add
kill -s USR1 `cat /var/run/dovecot/master.pod`
(or wherever your distribution puts the PID for dovecot) in your
log-rotate file, to tell Dovecot to use the new log

Samba and logrotate from Redhat
Has anyone had any success in getting Samba to correctly restart logging
to the log files with the default logrotate setup (or even a modified one)
from RedHat? The default setup is to move the files to another location,
create a new file for Samba to fill, then send the daemons a HUP signal.
I've tried some of the options that can be used in the logrotate.d/samba
file (nocreate and
