pam_mkhomedir and dovecot
Hi all,
Just wondering if anyone has successfully managed to configure pam_mkhomedir
and dovecot, so that users home directories are automatically created?
As far as I can tell, the login process runs as a non-root user, which
results in a permission denied error while trying to create the users home
directory. I'm not sure if this error is specific to dovecot or pam though.
Any thoughts

Using windows homedirs as a linux homedirs
Hello,
I would like to have linux users to have same homedirs as in windows. Now home
directories are on windows 2000 server.
How I can map users homedirectory from windows 2000 server to linux workstation
with credentials user gives at logintime?
Or even better, how I can persistently map those homedirectories to linux
(without mapping them as an administrator)?

how to disable homedirs?
Hi,
how can i disable the homedir?
I have a Domain login configuration, but do not want server based
profiles. After I add a workstation to the domain, the user profiles,
created during the first login of a domain user, on that machine are
always server based. Sure, I can change this profile to a local profile,
but I think I can change this it in the samba configuration, that all
profiles are

Problem with homedirs on sambaserver due to IE
Hi all, I could really use some hellp, first of all, a little short
description of the scenario..
The company that I am trying to help out looks like this, PDC with NT4, this
computer held both homedirs and profiles until 1-2 weeks ago. They where
then transferrer to a new server running debian (woody) and samba 2.2.3a-6.
This is my problem, IE is storing some cache-files in the homedir and with

links causing dovecot endless search through user's homedirs
Hello,
My user's imap folder locations are a mess. Some have them in
/home/username/mail but a lot of them just have them in /home/username.
So I need to have dovecot's base imapdir pointed directly at the user's
homedirs.
My problem now is that a lot of users have many links in their homedirs.
Some even have circular links, such as:
/home/username/foo/foo1/foo2/foo3/foo4 ->

Nis homedirs
Greetings,
I'm using 2.0.0-alpha13 on Solaris (compiling with gcc 2.8.1 on Solaris
2.5, running on 2.5, 2.5.1, and 2.6). I see this in the smb.conf.5
man page:

systems that use an automounter, the user's home directory
will often be mounted on a workstation on demand from a

Double homedirs and tilde problems in case of chroot in passwd-file / static dbs.
Recently I've made the post about "double homedir" problem,
but I couldn't recreate it later. Here're the exact steps to
make it happen (configuration is at the bottom):
1) set configuration as below with passwd-files
2) clean testms dir (not necessary though)
3) reload dovecot (HUP is enough)
4) access the server with any client using testms user

Sporadic Homedirs lost
Hi List,
since the upgrade of a LDAP based PDC/BDC system to PDC/BDC and fileserver we
have problems with users sporadic loolsing their homedirs.
These events are unreproducible and only sporadic. Only the homedir not any of
the other shares mounted from the fileserver are subject to this connection
breakoff. The logs seem to suggest the username has been "forgotten" by the

Samba + e2compr = problems?
Hello, everybody.
Casually I've got the chanceto reproduce at my workstation the
problem that prevented us to change from Novell 4.11 to Samba on RH6.0.
AFAIK, the problem is loosely related to the one described in these lists
where one get a bunch of smbd daemons running, while certain files remain
locked and can be only unlocked by means of a reboot of the system.
I could verify details

Homedir Access without exposing whole Homedir.
Hello All,
Dovecot 1.0.3
I am coming from UW IMAP, and I'm finding for some reason that mail is
getting stored in a variety of places (which I believe, is because by
default UW imap allowed access to the entire home directory).
All files are mbox. My default delivery location is ~/.mail
Thus:
* At least a couple of my users have mail in ~/INBOX, as well as
~/INBOX.drafts (not many

Sieve management without shell access or homedir
Hi.
Is there some user friendly application (web based, maybe a webmail
addon) that can help a user manage their sieve filtering? My mail users
don't have any shell access to the mail host.
Most users won't have a regular home directory either. Can I store this
sieve information someplace else? Either directly in LDAP, or in some
database, or a common directory for all user's

can "template homedir" build paths based on user groups culled from getent groups?
Hi all,
I am in the process of moving our schools student file server to Samba
from Win2k3 and I want to replicate the setup we currently have which
puts students home directories under their graduation year like this:
\students\2008\username
Under AD students are in OU's based on grad year.
We're using winbind (with idmap_rid tdb) to pull users and groups from

template homedir and idmap_ad
Some empirical testing shows that if I am using the idmap_ad module the
template homedir parameter in smb.conf is ignored. I would just like to
determine if this is the correct behaviour or if I am doing something wrong.
JAB.

mounting windows homedir when using winbind
I've got samba with winbind set up, local machine is acting as domain member. getnet returns windows users/groups, wbinfo confirms that local machine acts is domain member, logging through ssh with pam_winbind set u works etc. On another machine, windoes xp also being domain member, I've got homedir share mounted antomatically as U: from //server/users. When I try to mount this share from
