Hi I've ran into something rather nasty: if a user moves a mail from its inbox to a public folder, the folder becomes inaccessible for others, because the moved file will have the the permission 600 instead of 777 (or 666) which the rest of the emails have in the folder. is really a royal pain in the butt. most of the conversion tools only do a partial job. mb2md seems to be the best but it does not convert the from line correctly unless you are using exim for an MTA. It also does not get the file status right so everything is written to the new maildir directory. something else that makes the process painful is when you have folders containing mailboxes.

We've just converted to LAYOUT=fs. Some users had subfolders under Inbox, and for those users some MUAs no longer show those folders. The directory structure is that the cur, tmp and new folders are in the 'location' directory, but the subfolders are in $location/INBOX/$foldername. I faced the same issue and had to change from maildir to sdbox storage. The imap labels are now stored centrally per folder in an index file and not the filename anymore.
