permissions when moving mails
Hi! I am using Unix groups to control access to shared mailboxes. This works fine as long as files are not moved between mailboxes that are owned by different groups. The move operation doesn't change group ownership of the mail. Is there a way to force dovecot to e.g. inherit the ownership from the parent folder, not only for new messages bot also for messages moved from one folder to

most of INBOX missing?
Greetings. I'm having an issue with dovecot that I'm hoping that someone can help me with. Most of the mail in my INBOX has mysteriously disappeared and I'd like to get it back. It's all in the ~/Maildir/cur directory and dovecot reports that 1048 messages exist when given the SELECT imap command. But Thunderbird and the SEARCH imap command only list 25 messages:

observations about delays
I've tried two imap clients (mahogany and Mozilla) and they both have strange delays and weird failures. As a reminder, I am using mbox format mailboxes on the server and client side filtering of messages from the inbox. In both cases when the client fetches messages from the inbox and starts redistributing them, CPU utilization on the imap server goes to around 40 percent for Mozilla

moving mail from private inbox to public folder kills the latter
Hi I've ran into something rather nasty: if a user moves a mail from its inbox to a public folder, the folder becomes inaccessible for others, because the moved file will have the the permission 600 instead of 777 (or 666) which the rest of the emails have in the folder. How can I change this behavior so when he moves the mail it automatically becomes world-readable? Also why one mail

joys of transition.
Red Hat 8.0 stock dovecot 99.10 for a variety of reasons, I decided to cut over to dovecot this morning. I extracted all of my mailboxes from mbx purgatory back to mbox purgatory, set up dovecot and proceed to get authentication failures. (am using simple password based authentication either direct or through pam) I turned authentication verbosity on and got: Aug 14 11:51:38 harvee dovecot:

did the conversion and something broke
figures. Converted over to maildir today. Procmail is a piece of cake once I managed to pride out of its cold dead fingers the essential tiny bit of documentation I needed. But I'm having a problem with my nested directories. I have a directory called incoming sort my incoming mail. The conversion utility created a bunch of files called incoming.<stuff> and 1 file is visible

more transitional joys
well, now that I have moved to dovecot, I'm not getting any spam... in fact, I'm not getting e-mail at all. default_mail_env =mbox:~/IMap2/:INBOX=/var/spool/mail/%u when I first tried to access my inbox, I was told I had permission problems: Aug 14 17:47:22 harvee imap(esj): open(/var/spool/mail/esj.lock) failed: Permission denied Aug 14 17:47:22 harvee imap(esj): file_lock_dotlock()

conversion to maildir
is really a royal pain in the butt. most of the conversion tools only do a partial job. mb2md seems to be the best but it does not convert the from line correctly unless you are using exim for an MTA. It also does not get the file status right so everything is written to the new maildir directory. something else that makes the process painful is when you have folders containing mailboxes.

Dovecot permission denied errors on NFS after upgrade to 2.2.17
Hi everyone, problem still occurring, I just noticed that if I do an "ls -l /mnt/mail-storage/<user>/Maildir/cur/" from the Dovecot server I can unblock the mailbox of the user and Thunderbird can receives all the e-mails. The problem occurs even with the gmail client on the smartphone. I just tried many things but can't find a solution. I just reinstalled a new server

Maildir and Mail at the same time.
I am trying to use Maildir format for My inbox and be able to save the messages in ~/Mail. Problem is dovecot only show the Maildir mailboxes not the ~/Mail formatted boxes. How can I get this to work? If I use namespace or something how would this be configured I cannot find much documentation that explains it well enough. example: what would I have to configure in dovecot.conf or

Dovecot permission denied errors on NFS after upgrade to 2.2.17
Hi everyone, after some hours when I sent my last e-mail to the ML the problem reoccurred, again problem with some mailboxes reading some e-mails and many errors into dovecot.log like these: /Jul 14 15:07:50 imap(XXX): Error: open(/mnt/mail-storage/XXX/Maildir/cur/1594641298.M607225P10899.XXX,S=4465,W=4534:2,m) failed: Permission denied (euid=501(vmail) egid=501(vmail) missing +r perm:

couple questions about supported UPSes and politics of purchase
a customer of mine needs a UPS capable of supporting a small server in his office. Obviously, nut is a good thing for him for clean shutdown etc. especially with the crappy quality power in his office condo. I wanted to purchase an MGE UPS but it looks like they purchased APC and are now flogging that product line. Now, I've never been happy with APC. I have an APC 3000 (sans

Subfolders of Inbox with LAYOUT=fs
We've just converted to LAYOUT=fs. Some users had subfolders under Inbox, and for those users some MUAs no longer show those folders. The directory structure is that the cur, tmp and new folders are in the 'location' directory, but the subfolders are in $location/INBOX/$foldername. I am suspicious of this: 12 list "" INBOX * LIST (\HasNoChildren) "/"

Flags/tags lost when moving e-mails to another folder
I faced the same issue and had to change from maildir to sdbox storage. The imap labels are now stored centrally per folder in an index file and not the filename anymore. Moving mails from one folder to another keeps the lable intact now. Am 22.02.23 um 11:20 schrieb Alexis Ben Miloud--Josselin: > Hi, > > I have an issue with e-mail tags/flags. folders not visible on copied mail folders
Shortly after this post, I found a solution here: http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=1097725 In order to see the .Dennis\ Email.Dennis\ Inbox sub-folder you have to collapse and re-expand the folder list in Thunderbird. It's that simple ... AND that annoyingly obscure! Thanks for your help! --Mark -----Original Message----- From: Mark Foley <mfoley at ohprs.org> Date: Thu,
