Maildir permissions, shared folders & postfix
Hi there, It's my understanding that shared folders can be implemented in the Dovecot IMAP server by simply symlinking one maildir to another, eg: $ ls -lan /home/DOMAIN/ned/.maildir/ total 40 drwx------ 9 10012 10000 440 Jan 9 04:23 . drwxr-xr-x 3 10012 10000 160 Jan 6 06:32 .. drwx------ 5 10012 10000 264 Jan 9 04:21 .Deleted Items drwx------ 5 10012 10000 232 Jan 6

Migrating maildirs - Courier to Dovecot
I apologise, because I'm sure this subject has been done to death, but I want to migrate from Courier to Dovecot. I think my main question is whether there's any reason I shouldn't just rsync the maildirs across from the old mail server to the new one? There aren't many clients using this server, so I don't care if clients have to redownload all their messages (in fact, I

Disabling index files?
The wiki says: > Each mailbox has its own separate index files. **If the index files are disabled**, the same structures are still kept in the memory, except cache file is disabled completely (because the client probably won't fetch the same data twice within a connection). [1] I tend to grep my maildirs quite often, and use the output to cp emails to other folders, so it's annoying

Winbind & adding users... is `useradd` being called? %u parameter?
Hi there, This is probably a dumb question, so my apologies, but I've set up WinBind on my my Samba box & it seems to be authenticating against the domain, however new user accounts do not seem to be added. `wbinfo -u` returns a list of the users on the domain and I seem to have setup my IMAP server correctly to authenticate against that (using PAM), as I see the following in

OT: best way to move maildirs to another host ?
Hi, I'm sorry because this mail is a little bit off-topic, but Timo's email titled "1.0RC7 Released" made me think about a possible issue for me. I have to move an old dovecot installation (1.0b2) from an i386 server to a new x86_64 server running latest available dovecot. My concern is about moving all my users' mail stored as maildir onto this new server. What would be

Struggling with namespaces...
Hi all, I've been using dovecot 0.99x as a basic POP3/IMAP server at a couple of sites for a few months now and am very happy with it's simplicity, stability and performance, especially over the rather 'clunky' courier and the mammoth cyrus. I'm building up a top level mail server for our organisation and am desperate to use dovecot in there but I'm really struggling with

Converting mailboxes from one Maildir format to another
I am currently running dovecot 2.0.9 on a CentOS 6 server with the following layout for mailboxes: mail_location = maildir:~/Maildir I would like to change the layout to this format to match the output of other software packages such as offlineimap, mbsync, etc: mail_location = maildir:~/Maildir:LAYOUT=fs:INBOX=~/Maildir/INBOX Is there a way to convert the mailbox layout for all mail accounts

Permissions problem
Hi everyone (oh yeah, and I am new to the list but have a little Samba experience). I have a Samba 3.0.1 install on a Fedora Core 1 (.2138 kernel non-smp - not that it should matter for this). I have created a group called "osla" for the users in my domain and I have Samba working properly as a PDC, or at least properly in so far as I can join clients to the server, run scripts and

Dovecot & pam_mkhomedir
Hi there, Does anyone have Dovecot working correctly with pam_mkhomedir, please? I seem to be going through quite a number of IMAP servers this week, trying to find one that will not only authenticate against a Windows domain but which will also create home directories for users the first time they log in. I'm using winbind to do the authentication & that seems to be doing the trick

Shared mailboxes and accessing MailDir not through IMAP
Hello, I'm testing Dovecot that is part of Debian/sarge (v0.99.14-1). So far so good. I have migrated some mailboxes for testing with success and seems that everything works fine. One thing I do not figure out is, what to do about shared mailboxes, which are the very reason of searching for an alternative IMAP server, The Wiki states that there is some sort of shared mailboxes, based upon

Documentation error: wrong permissions given in FAQ
Hi, I discovered yesterday that the instructions given at http://www.openssh.org/faq.html#3.14 regarding the correct permissions for the authorized_keys file mistakenly recommend chmod'ing the file to 600 when it should be 644. The requirement for public key authentication to work is in fact that ~/.ssh/authorized_keys is readable (but not writable) by group and other, not just owner. Someone

recovery notice on every reboot, errors writing to fs
excuse the newbie nature of the post, we recently inherited a linux server which has ext3 on it and we have encountered problems before being afforded the opportunity to properly educate ourselves... We had a situation where the server froze and required a hard restart. On reboot we get the following notices which were captured in the dmesg log EXT3-fs: INFO: recovery required on readonly

Stealing ownership: chown user->qemu->root
F12, libvirt 0.7.1-15, qemu 0.11.0-12, 32 bit I recently discovered that libvirt is stealing ownership of my disk images. How can I make it stop? I have a disk image in my home directory, owned by matt. When I create a domain that uses the disk it gets chowned to qemu.qemu. When the domain terminates it is owned by root.root. I've lost access to the file. It has been suggested that the

openssh-unix-dev Digest, Vol 59, Issue 12
This problem can be solved by chowning the rc (and user conf files) files to some other user and chmod'ing the group and other write bits off. I say this because usually, when people use "ForceCommand" the intention is to severely restrict a particular account. Going down this path requires that you do a lot of homework around restricted shells/profiles/etc. and changes you

Shared maildirs
Hi, This is the one thing holding me back from switching to Dovecot... Can anyone give a realistic timeframe for when Shred maildirs will be officially supported? Thanks... other than that missing piece, Dovecot rocks! Charles

workaround for shared maildirs
Hello, this is my first post to the list. I have several mailservers running courier-imap, but am planning to convert one (and maybe more) to dovecot 1.1.4. In the process I am also looking to finally implement shared maildirs. As it is well known some clients (notable Apple's Mail) have problems in showing shared folders if the correct private namespace (INBOX) is set in the client,

Shared maildirs with symlinking
Hello, I try to set up a shared maildir with symbolink links, but it doesn't work. The main user, from which I would share a mailbox, creates a mailbox named "Commun" with thunderbird. I see on the file system from the server that a directory .Commun is created in his ~/Maildir/ and that the file ~/Maildir/.subscriptions has now such an entry. Right. In ~/Maildir/Commun the
