auto expunge trash
Hello,
Can this be done?
configurable number of days?
Like to move from courier, but this is the only thing we really need to
convince us to change, it is no good telling users to periodically
delete trash, they never listen :)

NSD compressing RP content
Hello,
while investigating a report from Jan-Piet Mens (resulting in http://wiki.powerdns.com/trac/changeset/3109), we discovered that NSD (both 3.2.15 and 4.0.0b4) compresses labels in RP content. As far as I can see, this is not allowed by RFC3597 section 4 paragraph 1/2.
PowerDNS Recursor, like Unbound and BIND, now deals with this as 3597 section 4 paragraph 4 says we SHOULD. Nevertheless,

lazy expunge folder delete bug
There's a bug in "folder delete" for lazy expunge, type "1 namespace", as descibed on https://wiki2.dovecot.org/Plugins/Lazyexpunge
When trying to delete a mailbox that still has messages in it, but that has no EXPUNGED/<name> counterpart, the process hangs after the imap "DELETE" command, and the following appears in the log file after a 60s timeout:

NSD 4.10.1rc2 pre-release (NOTIFY TCP)
>Regarding whether notifies are still plain UDP. Yes, the config parser
>doesn't accept additional arguments to "notify" and judging by the xfrd
>code anything to do with notify is using UDP, so no TLS yet.
Is there currently or will there by provision for NOTIFY over TCP?
Knot-DNS only supports NOTIFY over TCP and not UDP, so interoperabilty is in
danger. nsd.conf(5)

Delete vs. Expunge in Public Namespace
All,
my IMAP client [1] marks messages as deleted, but doesn't expunge.
Dovecot (2.2.27-3+deb9u2) expunges them. Is this because the mailbox is
part of public namespace?

concepts against amplification using dnssec
Hello,
Lutz Donnerhacke implemented DNS-Dampening.
http://lutz.donnerhacke.de/eng/Blog/DNS-Dampening
The implementation is available as patch for BIND9 only.
He told me that there is an other method preferred by the nsd developer.
It's called "Response Rate Limiting".
May one describe the idea behind rate limiting and compare it with Lutz' solution?
Thanks.

new configure-option --disable-index
Hello,
I experimented with dovecot the whole evening yesterday and the
mailserver worked fine since there haven't been that much users
connecting to it. I'm using dovecot 1.0.alpha5 as pop3 and pop3s server.
The maildirs are mounted through NFS and since there is no nfslockd
running I disabled mmap in the config and told dovecot to use dotlock.
Also I experienced, that dovecot was

Best practices to switch from BIND to NSD
Hi,
I'm a sys admin and currently working for a french hosting company. We
provide DNS services to our customers and at the moment we are using BIND
on Debian servers. BIND is a good software but we don't need a recursing
DNS for our public DNS, and we needed better security than what BIND provides.
So I made the suggestion to replace BIND by another DNS software.
NSD appears to be the

http://dovecot.org/releases/1.2/alpha/dovecot-1.2.alpha5.tar.gz.sig
It's been a while since alpha4 so I thought I'd release a new one while
waiting for Apple's patches..
- mbox fixes.
- Lots of Solr fixes
- Virtual mailboxes + Solr works now nicely instead of duplicating the
indexed data.
- Added alias_for setting

mbox snarf plugin + idle
I'm having a problem with mbox snarf not looking at /var/spool/mail/
when in idle mode thus never giving me a RECENT line even though there
are new messages in /var/spool/mail/ . Here are the imap commands to
reproduce the problem:
1 login userid password
2 select inbox
3 idle
When I run "select inbox" it does see my messages in /var/spool/mail/
and moves them over fine.

Doveadm-Expunge v2.0.5
Hello
Few questions regarding Doveadm-Expunge.
1.
I have lazy expunge configure with this name space: .EXPUNGED
Storage type: mdbox
doveadm -Dv expunge -u user at domain mailbox ".EXPUNGED/*" savedbefore 7d
I get some interesting outputs.
doveadm(user at domain): Debug: expunge: box=.EXPUNGED/INBOX/mon uid=791
doveadm(user at domain): Debug: expunge: box=.EXPUNGED/INBOX/mon

My storage is running low and i was wondering what would be the best
and easy way of deleting everything within the "deleted" and
"expunged" folders for every user...?

lazy expunge - how to unset deleted imap flag
Hello,
I am using dovecot 1.1.13 in debian lenny with exim4 and I have Outlook 2007 clients. I have configured lazy expunge plugin.
User marks messages in INBOX for deletion then click "delete messages from server" then the messages are moved to .EXPUNGED
folder which is correct but they are still marked with IMAP deleted flag which is bad cause when user marks another messages

large fonts on plots
Hi all,
I need to enlarge te fonts used oo R-plots (plots, histograms, ...) in
labels and titles etc.
I seem to be unable to figure out how to do it. The problem is that the
titles of the plots are simply unreadable when I insert them into my LaTeX
text, since they are relatively small compared to the entire plot.
I am sure it is pretty simple, can anybody give me a hint ?

invalid mbox files
Hello!
I recently upgraded from dovecot 0.9x to 1.0.5-Aplha and now when ever folders are opened (in IMAP), it keeps saying invalid mbox files. It worked fine in 0.99.x. It is detecting the right mbox files because it lists the folders and the subscriptions correctly. I am using "default_mail_env = mbox:~/mail/:INBOX=/var/mail/%u" in the config file, but I get the same error with

for-loop with multiple variables changing
Hi all,
Never really managed to build a for-loop with multiple running
variables in an elegant way.
Can anybody hint ?
See below for an example of what I would like.
EXAMPLE

b<-c("name1","name2","name3")
for( number in a, name in b ) {
print( number ) ##take a value
print( name ) ##and have its name available from a second list
}
