Bug in find command?
I'm going to bugz this if no one tells me I made another brain-damaged error here. Also, if I can get one confirmation, it'll let me breath easier. I ran a version searching for ".cmd" and ".c" just trying to convince myself I'm not *that* brain-damaged. You'd think after all these years that regex compilation would be pretty darn stable... Oh! Forgot it was

display pop up message on X
Is there a method to display pop up messages on X display? I found xmessage, however I was hoping for something a little more flexible. like being able to tell xmessage to display a file (typically one line in the file). then send it a signal to tell it to re-read the file and show the new data. Sure I can kill it and re-show it but that isnt very nice... Is there something available in centos

Wine Setup and Config File?
I have recently added the appropriate lines to my sources.list and done an apt-get install wine, read the included documentation, and run winesetup. Here are the results: tilleyrw@debian:~$ wine Warning: The Wine launcher is unable to find xmessage. This launcher script relies heavily on finding this tool, and without it, it will behave poorly. Most Linux distributions have

Can't find xmessage
I am getting that pesky "Wine launcher is unable to find xmessage". I asked Mandrake Expert and was told that this is included in XFree86 version 4 (which I am running). I have searched for this file and still can't find it. Any ideas what I can do about it? I am running mdk 8.1. Regards, Jim

Host does not respond to nmap
Hey Y'all, I just set up a new old machine on my network. I did a net install of CentOS 6.7 on it replacing an outdated copy of Win XP. Of course I'm now in the throws of configuring the machine to be a useful member of society. YUM Plugins: I seem to be "unplugged"?
Have followed all instructions, googled and read Johnny's November post, went to Duke (not physically, web-spherically, although it's only 45 minutes away),... and still can't see how I have protectbase operational. Installed: [root at wlmlfs08 ~]# yum -C --disablerepo=rpmforge list|grep yum centos-yumconf.noarch 4-4.5 installed yum.noarch

I am trying to get our Meditech application to work on a Mandrake 8.1 in GNOME. I am getting the following messages when I try to run it: The application runs, sort of. The screen is a complete mess. Message display
Is there a command in CentOS4 or some small program to display a short message everywhere possible on a box much like # shutdown -k now "Display me where I'll be seen", but without the added (normal) stuff? xmessage would probably be usable if it had an -onalldesktops option. BTW, the purpose is to add a visual to the scripts I have in place to remind me to connect my external

Centos Guys: Any estimate of recent torrent savings?
Just wondering if the community has any stats available from the tracker showing savings from torrent (up|down)loads. I'm seeing *lots* of activity on the live CD. Between that and the two CentOS releases I'm sharing (4 DVD & 1-4, 5 DVD & 1-6) my current session has sent out about 20.3GB. Since I started using it regularly, I think I've sent >= 0.4TB. If some really good

CentOS-4.4 update: don't forget those rpmsave and rpmnew files folks!
After you do your update, done forget to do updatedb, makewhatis, ... The locate for rpmnew has a couple items of interest and the locate for rpmsave returns one that occupies 24MB of your precious disks - /var/lib/Pegasus/prev-repository*. It compresses nicely to appx. 1MB, cpio bzipped --best. Change in your rndc key too, for DNS.

logistic regression
Hello 1* I need to use logistic regression. But my data file is very huge( appx. 4 million line). R doesn't handle such a file. What can I do ? ------------------------ 2* So, I thought whether I could perform sta. analyses on summarised data (count of yes/no values) of the huge file. Normally, summarised data file short and R could handle it. Then I used this command. > lo

USB and serial
Hello, everyone - I have an old Windows app - a ship navigation program - that needs to see GPS input on a serial port (it was written in the pre-USB days.) My laptop, however, has no serial ports - but this same program, when run on a friend's Windows box, can read the GPS info from the USB-connected GPS via the "USB-Serial Driver". This is one of the frustrating bits of this

graphic glitch around menu/toolbars
Greetings, I've tried wine on and off over the course of a few years and there is one problem I always run into that I believe is caused by either my configuration or my window manager. I'm using a stock Fedora Core 3 (fc3) system and currently wine-20041201-1fc3winehq with a default config file. When I run windows applications there is a transparent border around the menubar and all

Newbie: Problem running FileMaker 8.5
Dear All I'm new to Linux, and even newer to Wine. So, please excuse... I've got a Dell D800 with both Linux and Windows installed. Linux is Debian Etch, Windows is XP. The reason for installing Wine was that I'd like to use FileMaker Pro 8.5 from within Linux. I've installed Wine to the Linux world by: sudo apt-get install wine This worked without problems. In the shell, I
