The user can't access this "MBX mail folder": [root at volt Resume's]# file "Sys Admin" Sys Admin: MBX mail folder [root at volt Resume's]# mailutil copy ./"Sys Admin" '#driver.unix/new' Can't open mailbox ./Sys Admin: no such mailbox [root at volt

Architectural questions
Greetings, I have some architectural questions regarding dovecot, and though I've half answered them by looking at the source, I'm also interested in hearing whether my (our) wishes and suggestions are already being considered (or can be considered, once built) for inclusion in dovecot itself. Let me first explain why I'm doing this. I work for XS4ALL, a fairly large ISP in the

Migration questions...
Hi All, We are soon to migrate our mail server from one piece of hardware to another and we would like to take this opportunity to optimize things. As a result, we would like to replace "uw-imapd" and "qpopper" with "dovecot". The version we will be installing is 1.1.13-2, as this is what is available through the latest Debian stable backports. We will also be using

Non-dovecot user looking for feedback
I've been using UW-IMAPd for neigh on forever (at least since 2001). But, as it's basically stalled, and I'm about to update the hardware that is my mail server, I thought it was time to review existing open-source IMAP servers. Dovecot is the top three in my looking. The other of the top three candidates, because I know of people who've used it, is Cyrus IMAP. So, I should

Minor patches for builds against ancient platforms

Fortunately, it just involves reformatting the data and a little reconmfiguration of dovcot. If you can find the tool and disk space, it's well worth doing. Of course, when running a proverbial

Migration from pop3 to imapd
Dear list, I am planing to set up dovecot-imapd on my production-mail server which currently only runs pop3 via qpopper on debian-sarge. It would be best, if I could only use imapd and use the existing pop3- server (qpopper) as it is. Is this possible? Can the user both use pop3 (qpopper) and imapd (dovecot) in parallel then? Where does dovecot-imapd store its mails? Does it store its mail in

Migrating from uw-imapd to dovecot
We recently switch from up-imapd to dovecot But many users are reporting that they cannot access certain mail folders. The log file has: imap(dws): Sep 14 00:06:19 Error: File isn't in mbox format: /home/research/dws/mail/TaskDL The files in the logs are "MBX mail folders", not "ASCII English text" as are the folders that can be read under Outlook. Can anyone tell me

migrating from uw imapd
Hi, I'm trying to migrate from uw imapd to dovecot. I'm having two problems at the moment. 1. uw imapd grabs new mail from /var/mail/user and then shoves it into ~/mbox, is there any way to make dovecot handle this kind of setup or am I better off merging ~/mbox back into /var/mail/user? If merging is better are what tools are best for this? 2. While I did have have everything in

No folders listed in felamimail
Egroupware 1.4.004 I thought I try and solve a long standing bug we've had with felamimail not listing folders from our dovecot server. Watching dovecot's packet dumps I'm seeing dovecot do a namespace call and the a list call. Felamimail does a namespace and gets back * NAMESPACE (("" "/")) NIL NIL which is how I've configured dovecot to keep the client

Date recieve vs date sent
Hi All, I have migrated a client from what I think was UW-IMAPD to Dovecot, using the tool imapsync (http://www.linux-france.org/prj/imapsync/). The client is using Outlook and Outlook Express as their mail client and now all of their emails have the date 20/01/2006 in the folder view. When the email is viewed directly, the date is the correct date for the email. I was wondering if any one has

dovecot and pop3
Dear dovecotters: I'm becoming interested in dovecot as a replacement for UW-IMAPD. Any project that claims it's the "postfix of ____ servers" deserves a looksee. If indeed I were to going to switch at some point, I'd need to replace the UW POP3 server (which is a part of the UW package). I would prefer one that actually used the dovecot IMAP server instead of going to

mbox slowness in dovecot-1.0-test61
Hi, We're trying out Dovecot to see if it's a good replacement for UW-imapd. It seems to be very slow in opening an mbox file, even after it's been indexed. (I mean way slower than UW) Here's some info on the system: Dovecot-1.0-test61 SuSE 8.1, Linux kernel 2.4 Using NFS to access mail. I've tried turning off mmap, using dotlocking, using fcntl locking (lockd, etc. are

0.99.6rc3
Well, "release candidate" wasn't really right name for last two versions. Maybe not for this one either, it has a few changes that could potentially break things badly (new hash table code especially). Anyway, seems to work with me. If I don't see any problems with it for a few days it'll be the final. The really great news is that we support threading. A lot of people have

separate SSL certificates for pop3s and imaps
Hi, I'm migrating a uw-imap installation to dovecot. With uw-imap I had different SSL certificates and keys for ipop3d and imapd. How can I configure dovecot to do the same with its pop3s and imaps services? Thanks in advance, -- _________________________creating IT solutions Michael Weiser science + computing ag bei Eisenbahn und Haefen Postfach 11 02 63 Hagellocher Weg

invalid mbox
dovecot-1.0-1.1.rc15.fc6 When I attempt to drag spam from one IMAP box to another it tells me that I have an invalid mbox format for some emails. Occasionally too when I click on that email box it gives me the same error. uw-imapd never gave me those problems. I use Thunderbird 1.5.0.10 and have the same problem on Windoze XP and MacOSX. Can I and how do I solve this problem? Marc

folder subscriptions
Hi, I've got a lot of users using uw-imapd(yah, yah, I know) I'd like to get them off of that and onto dovecot at some point in the indeterminate future. so excluding bizarre path resolution things that uw-imapd has left around. is it more or less cp ~/mailboxlist ~/mail/subscriptions? It looks like that - but I wanted to verify :) thanks -sv

help: The current command did not succeed. The mail server responded: Invalid mask.
Am tryin to move from uw-imapd to dovecot, using dovecot ver 0.99.9.1-1 on debian. Using Mozilla Mail v 1.3 currently using mbox format. I made some test accounts and they seem to be working fine, but my older existing accounts give error messages whenever I connect or subscribe to mailboxes within them. The message that appears on the client is: "The current command did not succeed.

dovecot IMAP misserving problem?
http://togami.com/~warren/archive/2003/evolution-1.4.4-crash.mbox I suspect that dovecot-0.99.10 is misserving this message in some way that is confusing some IMAP clients. This behavior causes evolution-1.4.4 to segfault, and squirrelmail-1.4.1 to be unable to read the message. The same message served by uw-imapd works works fine in both evolution and squirrelmail.

Questions still about a uw-imap -> dovecot conversion
The more I read about all of this, the more I'm thinking about moving to maildir format. My switchover this weekend is full of holes due to the way user's imap folders were laid out. Some had folders in their home directory and others might have folders in their /home/mail directory. Some how, Horde/Imp seemed to keep track of it. Dovecot is not doing so well. I've been reading
