Timeout while waiting for lock....
Hi, I'm very new to administering mail, and this is surely a newbie question. I have my own IMAP mail server because I use my email as a way of filing important things, and I subscribe to a number of lists that I like to archive. I have about 40 mailboxes with up to 80,000 messages in some, and one with 40,000 messages is almost a Gigabyte in size. The total size is around 4

Trying to compile again
I'm currently running a pre 1.0 version of dovecot. Months back I tried to compile beta6, couldn't due to some mysql client libraries issues, and gave up. I'm now trying again with rc6. This is on a fedora core2 box, with postfix 2.3 and mysql 5.0. The error I'm getting when I run make is below. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks! I'd really like to get up to

Evolution: DATA command failed: Requested mail action aborted: exceeded storage allocation.
Hi Everyone, I have been recently getting these errors in Evolution 2.6.1. I think it is a client issue, as I don't see them using Thunderbird on the same machine (though I get a lot of "disconnected from servers" from Thunderbird. On Evolution 2.8.1 on another machine I haven't noticed these issues. DATA command failed: Requested mail action aborted: exceeded storage

How do I increase the fd limit on OS X?
Hi All, I just upgraded to the new 1.1rc5 from 1.0 that I had been using and it advised me to increase the file descriptor limit. I'm not sure how to do this. There is a command built into tcsh that allows me to do this called limit, but sudo limit 4224 doesn't work, and usually dovecot is started from the rc.local file if I recall right, and I'm not sure how to set this up from

Lost transaction log file /Users/frohro/Maildir/dovecot.index.log.2 seq 1
Hi, I got a bunch of the following errors: Lost transaction log file /Users/frohro/Maildir/dovecot.index.log.2 seq 1 when I was trying to apply some rules to move messages from one mailbox to another. Things hadn't been working well and I had recently upgraded to alpha 2, so I moved all dovecot* files in my Maildir/. Things then seem to work better. Rob -- Rob Frohne, Ph.D.,

messages_count too large (1121 > 1115)
I've seen this was mentioned before but remains unsolved. I upgraded Dovecot from 0.99 to v1.0.alpha4 yesterday and it rendered my inbox inaccessible: Dec 15 00:09:07 sand dovecot: imap(willers): Corrupted index file /home/willers/mail/.imap/INBOX/dovecot.index: messages_count too large (1121 > 1115) I've since moved that inbox away so I can view my new mail again. messages_count too large errors (1.0RC5)
Hi, Just today, Thunderbird started throwing errors when accessing a particular mail folder. Looking in the logs showed this: dovecot: Aug 09 15:36:31 Error: IMAP(nmenere): Corrupted index file /imap/mailboxes/nmenere/shared-settings/jira-support/index/.INBOX.Triaged/dovecot.index: messages_count too large (51 > 39) This is a new user's first attempt to access a shared jira-support/

Errors in Dovecot 1.0.5
Hello, I am running Dovecot 1.0.5 and seem to have lots of errors in my Dovecot logs. The worst errors are things like: Oct 30 16:11:42 delta2 dovecot: IMAP(x): Corrupted transaction log file /home/spamcop-net2/deputies/dovecot.index.log: end_offset (392) > current sync_offset (388) Oct 30 16:11:42 delta2 dovecot: IMAP(x): file mail-index-sync-update.c: line 841

Making changes to dovecot log levels
Hi Timo, Awhile back I'd written about making changes to some of the log levels that dovecot writes to to stop the process from writing these to monitor. I wanted to run a few changes by you for this, just to make sure these won't cause problems somewhere else. And to send this to the list, in case anyone else wants to make similar changes in the future. In the file

1.1b1 initial pop3 login: assertion failed
Currently running 1.0.2 with 1.1b1 listening on a different port. On first pop3 login on 1.1b1 I received an immediate disconnect (I was testing with telnet) with the log entries below. Subsequent logins work fine. Other accounts that I tried did not have the same problem. So this is probably isolated to some bad indexes or something, but I thought I should let Timo know. dovecot Panic: file mail-index-sync-update.c: line 1013
An email came to several users but one user didn't receive it and we got 'Mail delivery failed' message. As I see from the log below, there were broken index file. Then dovecot repaired that index and we got the error: Panic: file mail-index-sync-update.c: line 1013 (mail_index_sync_map): assertion failed: (map->hdr.indexid == index->indexid || map->hdr.indexid == 0) It was

distributed mdbox
Anyone know how to setup dovecot with mdbox so that it can be used through shared storage from multiple hosts? I've setup a gluster volume and am sharing it between 2 test clients. I'm using postfix/dovecot LDA for delivery and I'm using postal to send mail between 40 users. In doing this, I'm seeing these errors in the logs Mar 21 09:36:29 test-gluster-client2 dovecot:

Maildir + NFS + multiple machines = spectacular failure
I'm running beta7 on two machines, with maildir on NFS. I have lockd running on all machines. I've found that Dovecot is highly unstable with NFS when accessing a mailbox on more than one machine at the same time. Both dovecot machines have: mmap_disable = yes lock_method = fcntl NFS is version 3, exported from a third linux machine. All machines are running 2.6.9 kernel. Any ideas
