major pop3+ldap problem with alpha3 and alpha4
hi,
For some of our customers we provide a pop3 access, and after an upgrade
to alpha3, it is not working anymore.
All of our data is ldap based and everything is working as before for
our IMAP customers, but our POP3 users fail.
Obviously the pop3 login process does not read the data correctly that
comes from ldap.
after enabling mail_debug, I saw the following error in our log:

unofficial Survey about your Dovecot server :) to compare with my own server setup...
Hi Borthers/Sisters
Thanks for all the developer(s) and for all the hard work spent on build
this great piece of software! I loved Dovecot since it is really easy to
set up and really fast but I am really new to it (only 2 weeks and
half). Right now, our server configuration is:
Server: Apple Xserve G5 dual
RAM: 4GB
Number of Users: ~ 150 IMAP only users
Authentication: LDAP

1.0alpha5 released
We have now some new big features:
- Beginnings of dbox mailbox format. It should work, but if you happen
to delete/break index files, the mails aren't found again. So really not
a good idea to use it for more than testing.
- GSSAPI (Kerberos 5) support by Jelmer Vernooij with some fixes by
pod@herald.ox.ac.uk
- Added dictionary API to Dovecot, similar to what Postfix has. It can
be used

I'm using Dovecot 1.0-alpha5 as POP3 server with MySQL DB of users.
Sometimes clients get an authentication errors. In this time dovecot

Tools to analyze status/stats?
Hello,
I recently installed dovecot on a server running Debian.
I only have 10 users, but we probably have 6Gig of email between us.
Things were working flawlessly for a couple of weeks, and I'm still getting
email, but the last few days we are getting fewer emails that we typically
do.
So although things seem to be working well, everyone is suspicious something
is wrong due to the lack of

trouble getting digest-md5 & ldap working
hi,
I am trying to set up dovecot with digest-md5 as authentication mechanism and
openldap as passdb.
My problem is ... that I just can't get it working. PLAIN authentication works
as expected, but no luck with digest-md5.
An excerpt from the two configuration files:
dovecot.conf:
--------CUT--------
auth = default
auth_mechanisms = plain digest-md5
auth_userdb = ldap

Setup help
I'd previously had dovecot running on a Debian server but recently
migrated to Suse. The nice, simple setup for dovecot on debian is not as
easy using the dovecot sources. My lack of experience I'm afraid! I'd
like to continue to use dovecot, especially as my current maildir
directories are all set up ready to be use again.
On suse (sles9) I have users authenticating by LDAP. In

Hi All,
on fresh installation of 10.0-BETA3 it is unable to access files on Samba share:

At the same time I get kernel messages:

Please advice,

Samba Share Mounts with Java
Hello,
I am developing a Java application that requires me to read from and write to a samba share. When developing in a windows environment this was not a problem. I mounted the share as "M:/", built a path to a file, checked if the file exists using the Java function file.exists(), and went on my merry way. Now I am developing in a Linux environment(SuSE 10). I mount the samba

Alpha4 pre-release, please upgrade
Please try if http://dovecot.org/nightly/dovecot-latest.tar.gz (or the
CVS directly) works with you. I made a lot of changes to dovecot-auth,
so I wouldn't want to make alpha4 release without some more testing in
different environments. I'll release alpha4 in a few days, but it'll be
basically same as this unless more bugs get fixed.
Some of the changes include:
- IMAP: We might

symlink() failure in 1.2 managesieve
I've been simultaneously learning about dovecot and experimenting with
the 1.2.alpha4. To start I built an rpm under CentOS 5.2 from:
dovecot-1.2.alpha4.tar.gz
dovecot-1.2-managesieve-0.11.2.tar.gz
dovecot-1.2.alpha4-managesieve-0.11.2.diff.gz
dovecot-1.2.alpha4.tar.gz
dovecot-1.2-sieve-0.1.2.tar.gz
and then setup with mysql to use virtual users. Mail-wise, it all
works. :)

"logins with UID ... are not permitted"
hi,
I've just upgraded our dovecot installation to the most recent debian
package (0.99.20050712) and now I'm running into some weird problems.
Virtual (LDAP based) users cannot login anymore, the logfile shows this:

permitted (see first_valid_uid in config file)

1.0.alpha4 released
The actual alpha4 release this time. With a few changes since the
pre-release.
The important changes again:
- Default lock_method changed to flock instead of the old fcntl.
Solaris users will need to set it back to fcntl. This makes sure that
Dovecot's indexes aren't accidentally used with NFS.
- IMAP: We might have sent extra EXPUNGE messages when output buffer
got full. This could

Best way to upgrade from 1.0a4 to 1.0a5
Hello all,
I have 1.0 Alpha 4. Is it better to shut down sendmail, uninstall dovecot
1.0a4 then install 1.0a5, or just install 1.0a5 over the top of 1.0a4?
Thanks,

Problems with dual ldap auth
Hi,
I can't seem to figure this out. Is it impossible to use two different
ldap auth? It works if I use one ldap and one pam, but I do need to use
ldap for both. This is from my config:
auth default {
mechanisms = plain
passdb ldap {
args = /etc/dovecot/ldap-virtual.conf
}
passdb ldap {
args = /etc/dovecot/dovecot-ldap.conf
}

Dovecot returns the same UIDL for another message
Hello,
I have a serious problem with dovecot and mbox format.
dovecot returns the same UIDL for new messages and as result some MUAs don't
retrieve new mail.
UIDs returned by UIDL command look like 000000*1c*49006cec
And there is a moment when dovecot stops incrementing marked digits.
In other words when new message arrive to mbox, UIDL command returns used UID.
I'll show with example:
