Webrat 0.1.0 released - Ruby Acceptance Testing for Web applications
Hey guys,
We developed this plugin while writing my first real set of RSpec
stories. It''s still missing a lot of functionality, but it''s useful to
us as is, so I''m shipping 0.1.0. (Patches welcome. :) )
Code is available at: http://svn.eastmedia.net/public/plugins/webrat/
What do you think?

New package: brant
Dear R users,
I am pleased to announce the release on CRAN of brant 0.1-1:
https://cran.r-project.org/package=brant. I implemented the brant test
(Brant, Rollin 1990) in R together with Prof. Marco Steenbergen at our
Institute.
The function brant() tests the parallel regression assumption for ordinal
logistic regressions.
Any comments, suggestions or queries are gratefully received.

virtual host on latest centos 4.4
Good morning All,
I have a slight issue with apache virtual hosts not working on my newly
installed CentOS (4.4).
I am very new to Linux, however I have experience with apache etc on
'w1nd0ws'. I've been round and round in the apache conf file and to no
avail.
Basically if I setup a virtual host the default then looks at it. Also,
if I setup multiple virtual hosts they all look at

Search result inconsistencies due to indexing
I seem to be having problems with getting my searcher to be consistent
while indexing. I am running the latest version of ferret (0.10.13) and
I am using the Searchable plugin. Currently the way it indexes is by
using a callback in the model of either after_update or after_create to
index the fields that I have setup to be indexed.
Right now I update the index about once every 4 or 5

Converting a character string into an object variable
R-helpers:
Assume that I want to create a series of sequentially named R objects. For
example, I might want to call these objects V1, V2, V3 ... V50. To do this,
I thought of some sort of looping function like:
input.value <- seq(1:50) * 3
for(i in 1:50){
paste("V", i, sep="") <- input.value[i]
}
Of course this loop will not work since the paste function

Sampling distribution of the range statistic
R-helpers:
In the construction of control charts for statistical quality control
objectives, one might choose to estimate the control limits for the mean
using the mean range of the samples. This requires multiplying the mean
range by a correction factor, often called "d2", that is tabulated in
many books. The origin of "d2" seems to be table 2 of the following

Opinion on R plots: connecting X and Y
Attention R users, especially those that are experienced enough to be
opinionated, I need your input.
Consider the following simple plot:
x <- rnorm(100)
y <- rnorm(100)
plot(x, y, bty='n')
A colleague (and dreaded SAS user) commented that she thought that my
plots could be "cleaned up" by connecting the X and Y axes. I know that
I can do that with bty='l' but I

Apache and PHP
Sorry for the newbee setup questions, but...
Should PHP be already setup with apache on the centos server install??
It's just that I can't get PHP working at all. It's 100% me, I just
don't have enough experience.
There is already a PHP.ini file, if I add any php modules in apache conf
and run httpd -S is says it's already running a php module.
I am using vhosts. I did

Directories not writable (Apache/PHP)
Hi,
I have a new CentOS sever install. I've also installed suPHP to
replicate a live server.
When I upload file via FTP the permissions seem OK, however the
directories copied are not writable?? Any ideas?
I have tried chmod 777 and that's not working either. Could is be a
suPHP issue?
I have 'suPHP_UserGroup GROUP USER' setup in my virtual directory and
the user is also in the

no graphics windows
I've downloaded R and started going through Appendix A in the R-intro manual.
When I use the plox command I expect to see a graphics window, but there is
none. I've searched the help archives and found that it might go to a ps file?
Can someone help me get the graphics window working?
Kind Regards, Carolyn

Replacing rows in a data frame
R-helpers,
Below is a simple example of some output that I am getting while trying to work with a data frame in R 2.12.1 for Mac.

> colnames(testdat) <- c('a','b','c','d','e','f','g','h','i','j')

Missing data analysis in R
I am looking for a book that discusses the theory of multiple imputation
(and other methods of dealing with missing data) and, just as
importantly, how to implement these methods in R or S-Plus. Ideally,
the book would have a structure similar to Faraway (Regression),
Pinheiro&Bates (Mixed Effects) and Wood (GAMs) and would be very modern
(i.e. published within the last couple of years).

Does anyone know if there are R functions to perform the Freeman-Tukey

Calling "confint.glm" from within another function
On July 12, 2004 Spencer Graves wrote an email describing essentially
the same issue that I would like help on: calling the confint function
from within another homemade function. Because he provided many good
examples of the problem, I will not reproduce them here but will instead
refer readers to the original posting:

Putting 2 breaks on Y axis
R plotting experts:
I have a bivariate dataset composed of 300 (x,y) continuous datapoints.
297 of these points are located within the y range of [0,10], while 2
are located at 20 and one at 55. No coding errors, real outliers.
When plotting these data with a scatterplot, I obviously have a problem.
If I plot the full dataset with ylim = c(0,55), then I cannot see the
structure in the data in
