dovecot-lda won't cause mail to be filtered by sieve
Hi
I'm changing from fetchmail to getmail, in order to fetch my mail from several mail servers and deliver it to my local dovecot server. Fetchmail supports LMTP, getmail doesn't. So I'm making getmail call dovecot-lda for delivering the mail. But now, the incoming mail doesn't get filtered through sieve any longer.
However, this command works:
sieve-filter -v -u v

Setting up an email server
I am sure this is a really stupid question but I could do with some advice.
I am setting an old PC as an email/file server using Gentoo Linux. So far I
have configured getting emails from a couple of a pop3 accounts I have with
ISPs/Mail Service providers using getmail and dovecot. I can access those
emails from a variety of clients using IMAP without problem.
The next stage I want to

Trigger getmail via mail-client action?
Hello,
I want to use dovecot on my private debian/unstable-system to have the
advantages of an IMAP-Server (Access to mails from different computers,
Simply changing the mail client). I decided to use dovecot, because I
very often have read (in the web) that it should be more simple to
configure than other servers.
Now I have the following question:
I want to use getmail to retrieve mails

wake up getamail on imap request
Hi,
i've set up a little mailserver for my homeoffice, and after some problems
everything works fine for me, I've some virtual users which get their mail
delivered via getmail, and I can access my mails from my windows mailclient.
The only issue I'm still facing is, that I don't like to run getmail as a
cronjob that connects to my online mailboxes every minute or so,

fetchmail on demand
I hoping this is an RTFM ... and somebody can point me at the correct
'FM' :-)
I've just spent a while setting my new Debian , allways-on box in what I
suspect is a generally useful configuration.
I have fetchmail(1) collect mail from many mailboxes via pop3.
I store these mails in different mboxs according to rules in procmail(1)
I then offer these out to the household via imap

How to manage email with an ISP restricted mailbox size?
Sorry if this is a bit off topic but I'm hoping list members here might
have some ideas.
Aim: use ISP provided email with restricted inbox size but keep an IMAP
accessible archive of emails (including 'sent' messages) on a remote server.
Scenario:
- Don't want to run my own SMTP server
- Have free ISP email with 1Gb mailbox limit and spam filtering that works
well
- Have remote

How do I get my mail from fetchmail into dovecot?
I have dovecot (with squirrel mail etc.) running without any problems
but cannot understand how to get e-mail from a pop server into dovecot.
I have fetchmail configured to pick up the mail from the pop3 server but
don't understand how to get it from there into my dovecot mbox
structure.
New to mail servers!
Thanks,
Michael.

dovecot as layer between postfix and thunderbird
Hello, im all new to this but feel i want to have a dedicated server to
handle my mails from Gmail and Hotmail
Basically, i installed SMS, superb Mini Server (based on slackware), and
with that default install i got: dovecot, postfix, fetchmail and sendmail.
The postfix part seems to work according to a "telnet localhost 25", now
i want to procede with dovecot, as i understand it,

Gnu sieve vs Dovecot sieve-filter - sieve-filter extremely slow at lda (writing emails to local mbox files)
I am wondering why sieve-filter is so slow compared to gnu sieve.
I run mpop (like getmail) to download from a pop3 server to a local
mbox file: ~/mail/email-incoming-unsorted
This step is very fast.
The next step, I throw the email-incoming-unsorted mbox file at a
sieve processor, to sort the emails from that mbox, into other
mboxes, according to the sieve rules file.
Up until a couple days

dovecot-auth requires userdb, but already configured
Greetings!
My ultimate goal is to have fetchmail/getmail poll from POP3/IMAP servers
and deliver mail into Dovecot mailboxes. This does not work because the
Dovecot LDA for some reason fails.
I believe I have narrowed down the problem to dovecot-auth not finding my
userdb. But, I am able to connect to dovecot via IMAP in my MUA and preform
operations (read, delete mail, create folders). This

[OT] Fetchmail and Mutt help
Hi All,
I setup Fetchmail and wanted to use Mutt to read e-mail. I used to use
Pine and I just am sick of GUI e-mail clients these days. Bloat,
complication and unreliable. Pine was my first ever e-mail client. I
prefer to use POP still as I want may mail on my machine at all times.
I can go into mutt and execute: 'fetchmail -v' and watch it bring down
my e-mail.
But in mutt i dont see

Syncronizing two IMAP servers
I spend time in two places, in different countries.
I have a local network in each place,
with IMAP servers on each network.
I collect email by fetchmail from various servers,
and read email on my laptop with KMail.
I tried using just one IMAP server, but this proved impractical.
So I have two collections of the same sub-folders, on the two servers.
I have two questions:
1. Is there a simpler

Could someone form the list please let me know an equalent pop connector to
fetchmail?. I have problem with fetchmail that it downloads only 99 mails
and in the event of mails exceeding this limit will result a socket error.

I need to fetch my email from different accounts living on remote servers and drop it on my local mailbox.
The question is wich way is faster for fetchmail... using POP3 or IMAP?
Thanks

dovecot lda & sieve: resubmit folder for resieving
Hi,
I'm currently restructuring my mail archives and migrated from a decade
and a half old procmail supported solution to sieve.
While doing so I often found that I'd like to filter a bunch of messages
(with "bunch" in the area of 1-10K) with my shiny new sieve script. I
found in the wiki a way to do that:
http://wiki.dovecot.org/HowTo/RefilterMail
And it works well, it picks

Client Identification
I have two seperate clients (using fetchmail) on two seperate machines that use the same login and the same ip address as each other fetching their mail over IMAP using IMAP idle. Naturally Dovecot assumes that they are the same machine but they are not so messages only get downloaded to one of the machines rather than both which is what I want. How do I get Dovecot to recognize them as two
