virtual hosting
I'm trying to figure out how I might set up some virtual hosting
accounts for my server.
domain1 would be delivered via procmail to ~/Maildir mail directories
domain2 would be delivered via postfix to
/var/mail/vhosts/domain2/username and similarly for additional domains.
There's also one domain that's delivered to another machine, but that's
not a dovecot issue. I just

dovecot.conf %d problem
Hello,
I have got a problem ir dovecod.conf. I would like to use %d in
default_mail_env = maildir:/var/mail/vhosts/%d/%u/Maildir
but %d seems to be empty. I need it for Postfix virtual domains.
If I use default_mail_env = maildir:/var/mail/vhosts/DOMAIN.ORG/%u/Maildir
mail folders could be accessed.
I wonder, where Postfix virtual domains need to be passed to Dovecot?

configuration problem: maildir folders and messages not found
Hi
Perhaps I've been going too far OT in my previous thread or perhaps I
just didn't explain my problem clear enough so forgive me for trying
again.
I have configured fetchmail to fetch my mail from my ISP's POP3-server.
I have set up procmail to filter messages and deliver all non-filtered
messages to the folder ".IN-catchall/" in "$HOME/Maildir"
After sending

Default_mail_env..
Hi,
I 'm new to Dovecot and we are trying to do some tests in a
production environment. We use mysql to authenticate and dovecot imap
only. But our structure directory is something special.
All of ours accounts are stored in maildir and the path is the
following:
For example the account pepe at inter.net
/export/maildir/inter.net/p/e/pepe and into pepe we have

can't see IMAP folders - Fedora Core 2
Recently, I upgraded (switched) to Fedora Core 2. Previously, I was
running Fedora Core 1, with Cyrus-IMAP, and life was good. Now, I can
not see any of my folders. I suspect it is a simple dovecot.conf
configuration edit, but i'm not experienced enough with it to make the
correct edits.
I am using Postfix with Dovecot. My mail directory is;
/home/(user)/mail
snip from the conf file;

Need subfolders - convert to Maildir & how?
I just installed Dovecot and it is working great.
But I need subfolders. Does this mean I need to convert to Maildir
format? I found several tools to do the conversion, but is there
anything that needs to be changed in Dovecot to make the switch?
Any advice appreciated.
Thank you,

default_mail_env renaming
I was thinking about renaming default_mail_env to something that is more
understandable. I'll keep it working for backwards compatibility anyway.
How about:
# Location for users' mailboxes. This is the same as the old default_mail_env
# setting. The default is empty, which means that Dovecot tries to find the
# mailboxes automatically. This won't work if the user doesn't have any

Hello all.
I appreciate the responses to my problem on v0.99.14. Thank you all.

mta/mda config
Hi all,
I'm at the stage of planning our new mail system and am evaluating dovecot for
it.
For large mailstore setups, it makes sense to split maildirs across many
directories. I see that setting default_mail_env to something like
maildir:/var/imap/domain/%1d/%d/%1u/user/%u/ would create almost identical
on-disk layout as multidomain cyrus setup. Now, as dovecot does not have its

dovecot with sendmail
Hello,
Here is an issue.
I am trying to make dovecot work with sendmail
If I use the default conf file (default_mail_env = ) then the inbox is the
file /var/mail/user and a mail folder is created in /home/user directory
where it stores all additional imap folders.
The problem with this is that I can?t have subfolders.
If I edit dovecot.conf file and enter
default_mail_env =

default_mail_env %d var problem
Hello,
I am new to Dovecot and trying to setup on my Fedora Core 1 mail
servers (actually migrating from uw to dovecot ;-) ).
In my setup I use pam to authenticate virtual users.
All the usernames include @domainname in their usernames like
'jane at somevhost.com'.
Now path to user's home and INBOX includes
/home/vhosts/<domainname>/home/<username>.
I have added following

Using mail_chroot and default_mail_env
Settings for mail_chroot and default_mail_env are not playing well together.
It seems that default_mail_env is verified to exist *before* the chroot
but is later used *after* the chroot.
A configuration like this:
* mail_chroot = /var/mail/example.com/username
* default_mail_env = maildir:/Maildir
Fails with the message:
* stat(/Maildir) failed: No such file or directory

variable expansion in dovecot.conf?
hi all,
does dovecot.conf support the definition/use of user variables?
e.g., in principle,
my_DIR = /path/to/something/
then,
default_mail_env = maildir:${my_DIR}/%d/Accounts/%1u/%u/Maildir
or, for that matter,
default_mail_env = blahblah
then,

TROUBLES WITH dovecot configuration
Hello!
I'm new in this list and new to dovecot, so I have some troubles with its configuration.
I have an Linux OS installed and Postfix what supports virtual domains and places mail
to: /var/spool/mail/vhosts/DOMAIN_NAME/
I've installed dovecot, configured it to use only pop3 proto. Configuration like this (most important lines from config)
