Excel files & file modification time
Hi everyone, I have a problem on samba running on RHEL 3 kernel 2.4.21 with RHEL 3 samba packages - samba-3.0.7-1.3E.1. The problem is, that when people open excel files (with office 97 version of excel) the file modification time is changed (even if the file is only opened and excel closed without saving). This same problem does not occur on the [homes] share (in every test untill now it never

OpenSuse 10.3 - Xen 3.1.0 - VIF for DomU not recording transmitted bits correctly
I would like to track DomU bandwidth usage from Dom0 but my OpenSuse Xen install is not tracking DomU bandwidth correctly. My DomU guests are able to access the network and therefore the networking layer appears to be working correctly. It just doesn''t report the traffic correctly in ifconfig. I am currently running OpenSuse10.3 with Xen 3.1.0_15042-51.3 running a xen kernel

Any workaround for ThinkPad memdisk?
Hi, I saw the Nov. 2006 message on Memdisk having a problem with ThinkPads. I also saw the comment in the memdisk code enabling and disabling A20. I've got a ThinkPad x61t that memdisk is not loading disk images on. The symptom is that it gets as far as saying "Loading boot sector... booting..." Then image partially runs - FreeDOS prints out its kernel message and it's

rsync through high latency connection
Hi, I have a high latency, but relatively high bandwidth (1.5 Mbps) connection that I'm trying to rsync through. I noticed in the feature list that rsync pipelines file transfers to minimize latency - does this only affect transfer of large numbers of files? Are there configuration steps that I can use to improve throughput? For example, is it possible to set the TCP window size to a

Problem using F77_CALL(dgemm) in a package
Dear R-devel, I've written a numerical solver for SOCPs (second order cone programs) in R, and now I want to move most of the solver code into C for speed. I've written combined R/C packages before, but in this case I need to do matrix operations in my C code. As I have never done that before, I'm trying to write some simple examples to make sure I understand the basics. I am stuck

Testing samba4 connection on Windows
Hi, I installed samba4 (zentyal 3.4) and I followed the Samba4 AD DC Howto from the wiki to test the linux-side. There all seems OK. Unfortunately, when I try to register a Win7 PC, the domain is not found. So what can I do to test things on the Windows-side ? I did : C:\net view /domain:ace_domain returns : \\ZENTYAL1 which is my DC After manually "mounting" the test1-share : C:\net

Profanity Filter for Rails Application
I am creating an application that allows a user to post messages to a board. I want to be able to filter profanity. For instance if someone types an inappropriate word of 5 characters I want it to read "#?@#@" or whatever. Ideally, I would be able to install a rails plugin or ruby gem and then simply write Code : - fold - unfold --> message_text.hide_profanity! <-- and that

lme versus proc mixed in SAS
Dear all, I am trying to simulate the null distribution for the likelihood ratio test statistic for testing 1 random effect versus no random effect. The asymptotic null distribution should be a mixture of a chi-squared distribution with 0 degrees of freedom and a chi-squared distribution with 1 degree of freedom. This means that I expect a point mass of 50% on 0 for the likelihood ratio
