Dovecot default inbox name?
I'm installing dovecot and migrating from mbox to maildir. I've read
several articles concerning this process but I can't seem to find the
answer to one particular question. What is the default name of the
inbox when using maildir format? I need to create this in advance for
each user and I don't know what dovecot is expecting for the inbox
directory name.

Another "Too many files open" post
I'm running Solaris 9 Sparc with Dovecot alpha 5 and using maildir
format.. I noticed in the log file the following error:
dovecot: Dec 20 15:54:18 Error: imap(xxxxxxxx):
open(/export/home/xxxxxxxx/mail/.Sent
Messages/cur/1135013649.002916.mbox:2,Sab) failed: Too many open files
I called the guy and asked him what he was doing... synching his
folders. It hung for a while but finally

Corrupted index files
I'm using alpha 5 and I'm getting "Corrupted index cache files" errors
on one user's account. I found several posts in the mail archives on
this subject and concluded from the responses that it's not a serious
problem because Dovecot can deal with it. I deleted the index files and
they were recreated but the error persists. The end user did not notice
any problem

Problems with alpha3 + openssl-0.9.8
Has anybody successfully compiled alpha 3 with the newly released
openssl-0.9.8? I just wasted the weekend trying to get dovecot to
compile using the new openssl libs. Openssl-0.9.7d works like dream.
Just wanted to know if anybody had this combo working.

Maildir and counting inodes
I've been testing with alpha 3 and I am about ready to go production. I
am switching from mbox to maildir and I'd like to know if there is a
formula or rule of thumb for determining if your file system will have
enough inodes to handle all the mail message files.
I could write a script to look at each user's mbox files, count the
number messages and calculate the average number

SSL/TLS stopped working in 1.0 alpha2
I have both 1.0 alpha1 and alpha2 installed on my test mail server.
SSL/TLS does not work on alpha2. I'm using the same config file for
both. No errrors in dovecot.log either. Is there a way to increase
debugging info without recompiling?

An alternate "dovecot-auth" daemon using cyrus-sasl
We use dovecot in a heterogeneous environment (Windows/Linux desktops
and Linux servers). For unified authentication we use a sheaf
"Samba/Openldap" (i.e., Samba NT domain with openldap backend and
pam/nss_ldap for Linux).
Windows users are authenticated well everywhere, but there is one old
issue. As "SPA" (NTLM) against NT domain is not supported by dovecot, it

Do index files need removing when upgrading 1.0-stable to 1.0-alpha1 or later?
Hi Timo,
Just a quick question: do index files still need removing when upgrading
from 1.0-stable (as in the testXX series) or will Dovecot regenerate
them automatically?
I'm expecting to go with 1.0-stable on Tuesday for my 20,000 users (as
that's what I've been testing), but if we see lots of index issues, I
may want to upgrade to alpha1 (or later) fairly soon afterwards and it

vertical lines in R plot
Dear All,
May I seek your suggestion on a simple issue. I want to draw vertical lines
at some positions in the following R plot. To be more specific, I wish to
draw vertical lines at d=c(5.0,5.5,6) and they should go till
p=c(0.12,0.60,0.20) . I haven't found any way out, though made several
attempts. Please run the following commands first if you are interested in!

hurdle, simulated power
Hi all--
We are planning an intervention study for adolescent alcohol use, and I
am planning to use simulations based on a hurdle model (using the
hurdle() function in package pscl) for sample size estimation.
The simulation code and power code are below -- note that at the moment
the "power" code is just returning the coefficients, as something isn't
working quite right.

Help with constrained optimization
Dear all,
I need an advice in the following problem.
I have to maximize two functions of the form f1(x)=f(y1,x,alpha1,beta1) and f2(x)=(y2,x,alpha2,beta2), the maximization is with respect to alpha1, alpha2, beta1, beta2. I can maximize each function separately using nlm.
The problem is that I have to add the constraint of the form g(alpha1)=g(alpha2).
The total number of parameters is

Minimizing Computational Time
Dear R-users,
May I seek some suggestions from you. I have a long programme written in R
with several 'for' loops inside. I just want to get them out by any elegant
way (if there is!) to reduce the computational time of the main programme.
For instance, is there any smart way for the following programme that will
lessen time?

1.0 alpha1 released
As promised a few days ago, 1.0.alpha1 release is now available from
Dovecot web page.
Changes since 1.0-test80 include only one mbox assert crashfix and
removed fsync() call when writing to transaction log, making it a bit
faster.
I changed the version number also since 1.0-tests to 1.0.alpha. I know
'-' is problematic to binary package builders, maybe the new versioning
is better?

Difficulty in calculating MLE through NLM
Hi R-friends,
Attached is the SAS XPORT file that I have imported into R using following code
library(foreign)
mydata<-read.xport("C:\\ctf.xpt")
print(mydata)
I am trying to maximize logL in order to find Maximum Likelihood Estimate (MLE) of 5 parameters (alpha1, beta1, alpha2, beta2, p) using NLM function in R as follows.

I'm hoping that v1.2 stabilizes pretty soon. There are no huge changes
