Fatal: EOF reading environment from master
I have been running dovecot as an imap server since 22nd July 2005.
The server was started from xinetd using /usr/local/libexec/dovecot/imap-auth
The sever run successfully until the machine was shut down in a power outage
on 12 Aug 2005. Dovecot has failed to start since the reboot. When starting
it with the imap-auth it gives the following error:
fatal: EOF reading environment from master

login: Missing Protocol from server name 'imap'
Hello All (possibly again)
I did send a messge earlier, but it may have been eaten by the mail
system. I've now managed to get dovecot started, and I'm now getting
"Missing protocol from server name 'imap'"
This is somewhat confusing. Does it mean that I have somewhere called my
server imap? or is it talking about it missing a protocol called imap?
if it's meant

Calls keep ringing after being picked up
Hi all, using * 1.2.9.1 and this week all of the sudden calls keep ringing
even after they've been picked up... Here's one users summary:
When I pick up the phone, I hear a dial tone and I am able to dial out.
But for some odd reason, the receiving line picks up while the outgoing line
is still ringing.
And the receiving line can hear everything while the phone is still ringing.

Setting up PXE server
Folks
On a lark, I am trying to set up a PXE server so I can use network
boots to load new computers {some of which are virtual) at
home. It's more of an intellectual exercise than a work
necessity. I've read several "how to" documents, and even the one on
the RedHat site doesn't help. (For example, it refers to
/etc/xinet.d instead of /etc/xinetd.d, and the careless

Concept questions: Extra battery packs & additional UPSes...
* Is there a way to configure NUT so that it recognizes the huge
additional battery pack that has been attached to the 2200XL? The
51minutes runtime is a number consistent with the load we have placed on
a stock standalone 2200XL. With the extra large battery pack we've
added, the runtime should be more than 2.5 hours.
* I see the "Bizzare configuration" graphic on the

Problem with SWAT on MacOS X 10.3.3 server
Hi everybody
I have installed SWAT services under MacOS X Server 10.3.3 by adding
the service to Netinfo manager and set enabled = yes in
/etc/xinet.d/swat file.
I try to login as root in Safari (I have enabled the root account),
but keep getting the messages that the name and the password is
incorrect.
Any ideas anyone ?
Best regards
Torsten

Do index files need removing when upgrading 1.0-stable to 1.0-alpha1 or later?
Hi Timo,
Just a quick question: do index files still need removing when upgrading
from 1.0-stable (as in the testXX series) or will Dovecot regenerate
them automatically?
I'm expecting to go with 1.0-stable on Tuesday for my 20,000 users (as
that's what I've been testing), but if we see lots of index issues, I
may want to upgrade to alpha1 (or later) fairly soon afterwards and it

Can SAMBA make a kerberos keytab on Solaris 10?
Hi Samba people!
I'm trying to use SAMBA (the version included with Solaris 10) with
an AD.
NET ADS JOIN works like a charm to create a computer object in the AD
for the solaris machine, and SAMBA users are authenticating without a
problem. This is good. HOWEVER -- I also need other protocols
(including ssh and Xinet KA-Share) to authenticate users.
As I understand it, SAMBA

ERb question with xml
In the rdoc there''s an example:
xml.em { xml.b("emp & bold") }
Which produces:
<em><b>emph & bold</b></em>
But what if I wanted to nest tags with text, i.e.:
<em>just emph and <b>emph & bold</b></em>
?
I''ve messed around with it and have only gotten bizzare results or
nothing displayed at all -

Broken DNS makes Asterisk whacky!
Check this out. I recently closed a bug I had written, #495
"ExtraChannel in transfer causes crash" Now I've been able to reproduce
it, and somewhat narrowed down the culprit. But before I write another
bug report, I wanted to see if anyone else had experienced the following
(or would like to try:)
When DNS (or outside connection to the network, not sure which) is
broken and

changing macintosh type and creator codes
Anytime a PC on our network copies a file to our server and a macintosh
client
goes to view that file, the type and creator codes are incorrect. We are
running
Samba for Windows clients and Xinet KA-Share for Mac clients. I think it
has
something to do with the resource forks. I can copy a file to the server
from a
Mac then copy the file from the server to a windows machine and back again

Authentication and the wrong mailbox?
I just migrated from UW-imap to dovecot last night. After some tweaking
of the dovecot.conf file, disabling xinetd's entries, firing up the
dovecot daemon, and copying the .mailboxlist to .subscriptions for all
users, things looked to be going just fine!
I received a call this morning from a user stating that they had all of
*my* emails in *their* inbox! They don't know when it

subscriptions or .subscriptions?
I may have found a problem with the documentation concerning the
subscriptions file. On the Dovecot web site there is a document that
outlines the conversion from UW IMAP to Dovecot. The document says
Dovecot's folder list is stored in ".subscriptions"
However, I have found that Dovecot's folder list is really
"subscriptions" without the preceding dot. Did

Rcmdr GUI goes into loop via alt+backspace under Windows OS
I'm using Rcmdr version 1.4-10 with R version 2.9.0 under Vista x64.
A standard editing convention under Windows is that alt+backspace is a
keyboard shortcut for "undo". I often find myself hitting the [alt] and
[backspace] keys while editing scripts in Rcmdr. However, this causes the
Rcmdr GUI to go into a crazy mode where the menu keeps flashing and the GUI
is unresponsive.

more inter-subnet browsing wierdness
We are seeing some strange inter-subnet browsing issues here, our setup is
as follows:
.129 subnet
[ samba box ]

|
[ router ]
^
_.1 subnet _/ \_ .9 subnet_
The .129 subnet contains only the samba server configured to the letter from
the browsing.txt file. The .1 subnet conists of win98 and winME boxes all
configured from DHCP to use the samba box for WINS lookups.

EL6, xinetd, and permissions. What am I missing?
Staging for a rollout of EL 6, and ran into a very strange permissions issue
with xinetd that defies all (my) logic.
It's a script called "spfiled" that we use for messaging between our server
cluster servers. I'm trying to get it to run with "least permissions
necessary". Because it reads/writes files in conjunction with a web-based
service, it runs as user

An alternate "dovecot-auth" daemon using cyrus-sasl
We use dovecot in a heterogeneous environment (Windows/Linux desktops
and Linux servers). For unified authentication we use a sheaf
"Samba/Openldap" (i.e., Samba NT domain with openldap backend and
pam/nss_ldap for Linux).
Windows users are authenticated well everywhere, but there is one old
issue. As "SPA" (NTLM) against NT domain is not supported by dovecot, it
