setacl fails - does not find dovecot-acl file
Hi,
I'm using dovecot 2.0.13 that ships with Ubuntu 11.10.
I tried setting up a shared namespace as documented in the wiki to
enable the sharing of a mailbox between two users.
I have a Maildir(++) directory for each user. Each user has a system
account. The Maildir of each user is owned by the user's system account
and group read/writable by the group mail (hence

dotlock errors without using dotlock
I have a few clients that have more than one user in the same mailbox.
I have my setup using fctrl for mailbox and index locking. My mail is
stored on a network file system (gluster) and my indexes are stored on
the local drive. I have a few issues:
- My users mailboxes have issues where messages will be mixed up (you go
to open a message and it gets a different message)
- messages will

Dotlock dovecot-uidlist errors / NFS / High Load
As of late our four node dovecot 1.2.13 cluster has been experiencing a
massive number of these dotlock errors:
Created dotlock file's timestamp is different than current time
(1295480202 vs 1295479784): /mail/user/Maildir/dovecot-uidlist
These dotlock errors correspond with very high load averages, and
eventually we have to turn off all but one server to stop them from
occurring. We first

Fwd: Re: Dotlock dovecot-uidlist errors / NFS / High Load
Stan,
Thanks for the reply. In our case we have actually already done most of
the work you suggested to no avail. We had rebuilt two new ntp servers
that sync against two stratum 1 sources, and all our nfs clients,
regardless of using dovecot, sync to those two machines. You bring up the
difference between bare metal and hypervisor, and we are running these
machines on vmware 4.0. All the

dotlock & NFS
Hello,
is dotlock supposed to work with NFS? I noticed that the default-locking
method causes problems even with nfslockd started.

problems with dotlock
I have to make dotlock work because this openwebmail thing
only supports one of dotlock or flock, but procmail delivery
does dotlock and fcntl. procmail correctly creates a
dotlock file in /var/spool/mail/username.lock when
delivering, I can watch this with `while :; do ls -la | grep
lock; done`.
It works fine when lock_method=fcntl, but no dotlock file
shows up in /var/spool/mail.

Hi,
I've enabled autoexpunge for Trash and Junk. Now imap process core
dumps occasionally.

dotlock O_EXCL query
Hi there,
I was wondering if someone can assist with clarifying why O_EXCL does not
always work with NFS. Is it related to NFS protocol version support
or export permissions mode out of the Celerra/Netapp ( e.g: mixed mode, unix
file permissions ? )
Please advise. Thanks.
Regards,
new dovecot user.

Hi Benjamin:
I think that the following link will give you an idea for what you need to
know:

This is for the naming:
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/sw/iosswrel/ps1818/products_tech_note09186a0080101cda.shtml
In this case 11.1CC goes to 12.0T and 12.0T migrate to 12.1 mainline. Do not
you worry you will not loose anything with the new

VOLATILEDIR not really used?
Hi
According to the docs, setting VOLATILEDIR will improve I/O performance
when using NFS - but as far as I can see, only vsize lock-files are put
here, and little else?
Is this correct, and if so are there any plans to move dotlocks etc. to
this directory?
Thanks.

recursive locks
How can a dovecot-2 plugin safely use file-locks or file-dotlocks when the processes into which it plugs handle multiple connections? (Via, e.g.,
service imap {
client_limit = N
service_count = 0
})
Dovecot's file-locks and file-dotlocks do not appear to support nesting/recursion.
For instance, squat_trie_lock(). Imagine one user is connected to a single imap process twice.

Security issue #5: mail_extra_groups setting is often used insecurely
mail_extra_groups=mail setting is often used insecurely to give Dovecot
access to create dotlocks to /var/mail directory. If you don't use
mboxes in /var/mail, make sure this setting is cleared.
If you do use /var/mail mboxes and Dovecot gives permission errors
without it, do one of the following (in the preferred order):
a) Upgrade to v1.0.11 and use the new mail_privileged_group setting
