Choice of FTP server
I have taken over a number of RH/FC/CentOS servers recently. I am trying to upgrade all of them to CentOS 4.3 and configure them to only use software that can be managed via yum/apt repositories. One of the choices made by my predecessor was the pure-ftpd server over vsftpd. I cannot find a repo to get this rpm from and am wondering if anyone on the list has any practical experience with both and

Searching an array
Hi everyone! :) I''m currently accomplishing what I want, but I''d like to clean it up a bit. I''ve placed the following items in an array (please excuse my lack of proper syntax): @widgets = [1, red] [2, blue] [3, red] [4, blue] I''d like to learn a way to search through the @widgets variable an separate the widgets, so that I could have: @blue_widgets = [2,

DVD rom questions
I'm running CentOS 3 and have just installed a Liteon lightscribe DVD/CD unit. I firstly realized I didn't know exactly how to mount it, as /dev/dvd didn't exist, I didn't want to generate anything if it already existed, and I didn't want to mess up my cdrom unit that works just fine. I mounted the device though the X window just to see how it might mount, and find that it

Backup options.
I am a long time FreeBSD user and have been using dump/restore for many years for disk to disk backups. Now I am getting more and more into FC4 and CentOS, but am I stuck on only using tar/star for backups? Tar in its various forms are fine for some items, like home directories, but dump and restore in FreeBSD also gave me the possibility of easily doing a bare metal restore. What are my

inexpensive / reasonably priced workstation / server development box
We are testing some simple low bandwidth video and audio broadcasting using real server and client softwares. So, for quick check and simplicity, we were plunking along TESTING on an 3.2GHz XP box and I noticed frames were getting dropped on the broadcast just for resizing a window on the screen during the session. Talk about totally lame... I know this can be a big deal and start conflicting

gnbd vs drbd
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Up until now, I have been using drbd for file custers with great success. Yes, it is a PITA, and sometimes you can get annoying sincronization issues (mostly on lab situations). Now I have been considering giving gnbd (with cs/gfs) a try. Do any of you ever crossed this path ? Any comparisons or comments ? TIA, - -- Rodrigo Barbosa "Quid

Any compelling reasons to upgrade to 5
Just popped back on the list because I was curious about this. I've read the information about virtualization and other new features. I'm just wondering (as someone who installed CentOS 2 years ago and basically hasn't thought much about it my OS other than using it since then) if any piece of it except for virtualization got updated significantly enough to consider an upgrade. My

NVidia Quadro4 200/400 NVS CentoOS 4.4
I've put a Nvidia Quadro card in my machine. It was first detected as Quadro4 200/400 NVS. I have the pigtail for dual monitors. I've tried tweaking the xorg file to get it working, to no avail. So I then downloaded the 9631 version driver from Nvidia. The readme for the newer files said that they didn't support this card. I run the installer, it builds the module, but gets
