maildir and /var/spool/mail
All, Not sure what to do next. Have imap working in that I can see messages in inbox. When I create a folder it won't create one. Looking at maillog shows that I don't have rights to folder /var/spool/mail/.sent or whatever folder I am trying to create. I have procmailrc and dovecot.conf point to /home/Maildir but for some reason something is tied to /var/spool/mail. Of course I am

Dovecot 1.0 POP3 login but no mail
Dovecot is installed on the hosted FC1 server I have, it was working fine until yesterday when they had to bounce the server. I can login fine from Outlook or connect telnet <hostname> 110. But even though I can see sendmail has received mail into my %h/.maildir (via webmail's user mail facility) when I log into dovecot via Outlook it does not retrieve any of it. I tried from W2K

maildir and /var/spool/mail/$USER
I was told to use dovecot because it was easier than cyrus. I just upgraded from fc1 to fc3. I am not sure what fc1 used but I think it was cyrus and it worked perfect out of the box no configurations to do. The new cyrus-imapd is not so simple so I got dovecot. I see examples saying to use mbox=~/mail:INBOX=/var/spool/mail/%u but when I try that I cannot map mail folders that reside

0.99 mail env
Greetings, all Last night I migrated our mail between two machines... both running dovecot 0.99.xx. In the process, I wanted to make some small changes, namely that new mail be delivered to mboxs in /var/mail/%u and IMAP mail stored in Maildirs at ~/.imap ... I tried using: default_mail_env = maildir:~/.imap/:INBOX=mbox:/var/mail/%u But had no luck. Is it only 1.0 that can work with two

dovecot 1.0-stable (050721) rpm for FC3
OK, thanks for the all the helps I got from the list. I finally managed to get stable 1.0 (050721) built and running. To avoid the same hassels for others, I made an rpm. You can check it out at http://linux.junsun.net/rpms My main motivation to upgrade to this version is to avoid the "Status: O" header re-write bug in 0.99 versions. Cheers. Jun

Dovecot on FC3 with Active Directory authentication
I am building an IMAP server that uses Dovecot/Sendmail on FC3 to replace our POP server that uses Dovecot (via POP)/Sendmail on FC2. My new server is authenticating users via winbind/smb against my WIndows 2003 Active Directory. The authentication is working great. The problem come up when a user gets an email and has not ever logged into the IMAP server via SSH, local, or GDM,

POP3 fails on non-existent inbox
Using the latest RPM (dovecot-0.99.10.5) on Fedora Core 2. I connected to the server by POP3 for a user who'd not yet received email (ever) so she didn't have a spool file in /var/spool/mail, and dovecot was failing on login. I just tested it by removing my own mailbox and see this in maillog: pop3-login: Login: ken [127.0.0.1] pop3(ken): stat() failed with mbox file
