Double Emails
Hi all, I originally posted this on postfix's mailing list but then realized that this COULD be a pop3 server problem since that downloads and deletes mail. This has only been happening since I upgraded from .99 to 1.0-7 ... Our users have been reporting double messages in their inbox, as well as emails that they deleted a long time ago reappearing. The only thing in my maillog is a

Confused
Hi all, I really don't know where to go from here. I've traced and pasted, but never heard responses.... I'm getting the following (see bottom of this email) in a single day of dmesg....most of the time the error message in the log file is something like: Oct 5 09:21:43 mail1 dovecot: imap(*****): file mbox-save.c: line 280 (mbox_save_init_file): assertion failed:

question about routing, firewall, natd and bridge
Hallo there, I had to change the provider. And after that my public IP adress are routed straight through FreeBSD Box. What is it best way to do it? I personally done it the way, where exist the localnet alias for every interface... eg.. ifconfig_ed0="inet 62.168.40.188 netmask 255.255.255.252 broadcast 62.168.40.191" after that there is local interface 192.168.1.1/255 and it's

Partial deadlock in 4.9p1
I've just had a 4.9p1 system partially deadlock for about 30 minutes and then spontaneously(?) recover. The "ps" results point at vinum. I've never seen this before and don't recall anything like this being mentioned here before. At the time, I had two find's running in a large NFS mounted filesystem and was doing a "cvs -d /usr/ncvs -R checkout -P ports" from

Root password or key access to pop3?
Hi all, We're an ISP, and are currently looking for a way for our tech support guys to access customer's email without having shell access to the server, or knowing the customer's password. We'd like to install a custom webmail client that would only show the user's inbox and the ability to delete the messages. The problem is, that we would have to know the user's

IMAP Folders
Hi all, We're using the mbox format and I tried setting up IMAP on my boss's computer tonight. He likes subfolders, and although they work, he can't seem to remove subfolders once he created them, nor create new folders without using something other than his mail client (like mkdir from the command line). Any ideas on this? Does dovecot just not officially support IMAP and

Dovecot without a chroot
Hi all, We're running dovecot without a chroot (mail admin's request), but we're running it as a non-priv'd user with proper firewall setup. Does this seem to be an OK and average setup? Or is it considered a MUST to chroot something like the imapd daemon, etc. Thanks! -Matt

Changing port?
Hi all, Trying to setup a test copy of dovecot on my box before I "really" use it. I have it installed into a test dir (/usr/local/dovecot instead of /usr/local), and I've got a config file with valid dirs, etc. Only thing is ... I can't find a way to set the port in the protocol pop3 {} section. Its documented in the "listen" directive area at the top of the

Dovecot runs as ...
Hi all, We're using LDAP 100% for everything ... So does that mean that for the following user, I can put another user, like nobody? user = root I guess that user still has to be able to access /var/mail and such, correct?

Mail spools keep getting corrupted with .99.x
Hi all, My mail spools (mbox format) keep getting corrupted with .99.x. I was thinking of running dovecot-stable-20050709.tar.gz ... is this fairly stable? Also, can I use the .99 config file with that code? Thanks! -MAtt

Dieing?
Our dovecot process died out of no where today, with no sign of reasons why. I'm running a beta from a few weeks ago of 1.0 ... are there any security vulns I should know about that might have caused this crash (someone trying something?) Thanks, Regards, Matt

Lot of crashing messages
Receiving a lot of the following messags with 1.0-76: pid 633 (dovecot-auth), uid 0: exited on signal 6 (core dumped) Any ideas? Sometimes, our entire port 110/143 servers begin refusing connections. Hardware checks out fine. Thanks in advance, Regards, Matt

Same certificate on multiple identical machines ?
Hi list, In our platform we have a lot of machines in which the system is a single disk image loaded on RAM from PXE. The problem is quite simple : if I install puppetd on the image, I will end up using the same certificate for 100 different servers with different names (the hostname is setup at boot time from dhcp) and I guess the puppetmaster won''t allow that. In other words : what
