POP Question
After upgrading to Alpha 4 I have two people complaining about a POP
problem. Aparently they are getting their email sent to them over and
over. They have it set to "leave messages on server" but apparently
whatever keeps track of that is broken.
So - how is it determined with POP what is new and what is read?

Poprelayd released for Dovecot
Hello all.
I just wanted to tell you that poprelayd is now compatible with Dovecot. I
have just created a parser for the Dovecot server.
This might be interesting either for you or your future customers. Maybe you
will want to make some advertisement for it ?
I remind that poprelayd is a service that allows a POP user to use the SMTP
server of the same machine to send e-mails (making relays)

(auth) killed with signal 11
Running rc24 and with one user in particular they are getting "(auth)
killed with signal 11" when trying to pop email. IMAP works. What causes
this?

Mixing POP and IMAP
Hi,
I run a small site, about a dozen users, and many of the users POP their mail.
I have just installed Squirrelmail which uses IMAP. Has anyone had any
significant problems with mixing POP and IMAP for mail retreival?
Your feedback is greatly apprecianted,

Restrict user on IMAP or POP
Hey guys,
Is it possible to deny a user on POP or IMAP! For example, on the
primary server we use POP3 and IMAP but how I can force a user to use
POP3 and be unable to authenticate on IMAP ?
Thanks

How do I retrieve the /response time/ metrics for imap, pop, lmtp and smtp.
Any suggestions will be very helpful.

Variable expansion in LDA vs POP/IMAP
Hello all,
I'm trying to understand when exactly the variable substitution
happens in Dovecot, as I get different results in the LDA and in the POP/IMAP
server.
Here's my general setup:
- Postfix MTA, delivers mail via Dovecot LDA
- users list sits in a database
- mail directory is stored in the database, but with
Dovecot variables inside
Delivery works perfectly fine,

Namespace Feature
I've never used namespaces and don't quite know what they do. If I add a
namespace then do things like shared folders magically appear to users?
Also - I wonder if this is possible. I'd like to create a write only
shared folder.
I know this is unusual but I have a reason. I'd like to have a folder
that people can drag spam into to report missed spam. I want to write
only so

Sending email with IMAP instead of SMTP?
Here's a kind of "outside the box" thought.
Why not extend the IMAP protocol to send email? Instead of having to use
SMTP if an addition were made to the IMAP protocol then IMAP could
transport outgoing mail to the server the same way it moves messages to
the server. On the server end Dovecot would deliver outgoing email to
the host MTA via localhost:25.
The advantage would be

POP (dot) locks
Hello,
just to soothe my paranoia from many years of qpopper usage, which
enforces solitary access to a POP mailbox. Only one login per user is
possible at the same time and if a session terminates w/o qpopper being
properly notified it will remain locked for some time, 30 minutes by
default.
With dovecot (0.99.10.4) one can login multiple times (using POP,
with IMAP of course this comes as

separate pop and imap server keys?
Hi there,
is there any way to get the imap and pop client to use separate keys?
My Thunderbird client complains when I am popping from popss.domain.com that
the certificate is owned by imapss.domain.com
Any clues here?
Cheers,
Noah

POP/IMAP on proxy rip issue
I have a proxy setup for pop/imap. The proxies are defined in
login_trusted_networks = x.x.x.x and for the imap it works fine but for pop3
connections displays the ip address of proxy IP... Dovecots are both 1.2

Dovecot Migration: Retrieving/Logging POP/IMAP Passwords in Plaintext
Hi List
I'm currently in the process of migrating my dovecot imap/pop users to a
new server and have to extract their passwords in order to import them into
the new system (different password encryption schemes).
I've tried enabling auth_* debug parameters in my dovecot.conf in the hope
that this would result in logging plaintext passwords to the dovecot log.
However dovecot does not log

Supporting POP & IMAP with Sendmail
Greetings!
I dug thru the archives but didn't see a clear answer to this. A client
has an existing sendmail/pop3 system, and I would like to switch to
dovecot for imap support. For imap I much prefer the Maildir format over
mbox, however, sendmail natively dumps to mbox (mailspool) and that is
what pop typically reads. I've read the threads on how to make sendmail
write to Maildir.

Feature Request - Different SQL queries to retrieve pop and imap auth tokens
Hi!
I world like to have different queries to let a user use pop only or
imap only (webmail) accounts.
It would really be very useful.
I have not found any workaround get it working with dovecot.
Could it be possible ? It should not be too difficult, I suppose.

Effects of going read-only on dovecot & pop/imap clients
Hi all,
We need to set our filestore to read-only for quite a while, and I want
to mitigate the effects for our clients. First issue; dovecot. If we
just change the nfs mounts to read-only, dovecot complains:

Feature Request - wild idea - folders for executing programs
Timo,
I have a wild idea for a feature that is somewhat unusual, would be very
powerful, and easy to implement. What I want is ...
Special folders that when someone drags a message into them - it pipes
the message into a program.
The reason I want this is - for example - reporting of spam. Suppose you
want everyone to have a spam-missed folder so that if a spam gets
through then the user

pop 110/995, imap 143/993 ?
just setting a new Dovecot server to migrate from older system, but, I
have a general question:
1. I've set the server with self issued cert, and both pop/imap
StartTLS/110/143 SSL/993/995 (apologies if I'm using wrong naming
terminology)
is there a 'preferred way'? should I tell users to use 143 over 993 ? or
993 over 143? or?
my current understanding is that some (MS?)

different auth configuration for pop and imap
Hi there,
Firstly, thanks for the great software.
I am just wondering if it is possible to configure dovecot to use different
authentication configurations for the imap and pop processes. Specifically, I am
looking to use a different SQL query for each process.
Kind regards,
Roger
