Map sids to Unix UID and GID
I have a samba server running on a Linux RHEL5 system. The system uses nss_ldap and gets passwd and group information from a non-windows ldap server. The smb.conf file is using security=ads and spnego in order to user Kerberos tickets rather than ntlmv2. I have done a net ads join, and the authentication is working fine, however when I try to set an ACL on a file from a windows client

some Maildir files not honoring dovecot-shared
I'm using RC15 on Solaris 9. The wiki indicates that when a dovecot-shared file exists, "Dovecot uses the same permissions and GID when it creates index files, dovecot-uidlist file, new mail files, etc." In my case, Dovecot *is* creating new index files based on dovecot-shared, but dovecot-uidlist and individual message files don't completely match the permissions/group

linux 2.4 vs 2.6 kernel
hi I read ( I think in dovecot wiki) that ext2 or ext3 fs on a 2.4 kernel can get slow due to the number of files in a directory. Does anyone know if kernel 2.6 has similar limitation? I'm not at that point now, but before the box goes live, I'm wondering if I should resolve that. Glenn

UID and GID problems
Hi I have been using dovecot for a while now to support a number of virtual users via a postgres table. The dovecot user chown is dovecot:dovecot, and for each domain, I use a single GID, so for example domain1 is 1001:dovecot, domain2 is 2001:dovecot. All directories are owned by 1001:dovecot or 2001:dovecot. The works well most of the time, but occasionally, some user files are owned by

Problem with GID being set to UID for Samba 2.2.2
Hi, Just downloaded the latest SAMBA, and (after a couple of "learning experiences" :-) it is sorta working on my home network. A laptop with win95, and a server with RedHat 7.1 (Intel). But there's this one little problem, the GID for a recognised user is being set to an unknown group. It looks like the GID is being set to be equal to the UID, or it is being set to the

sssd - ldap uid/gid does not match with uid/gids in the openLDAP DS
CentOS 6.4 (amd64) client desktop with SSSD installed+configured to do LDAP AUTH from an openLDAP DS. Groups in LDAP DS -- dsusers (for all users), project1, project2, .... The objective is to give group permissions to directory trees with users belonging to various groups; users thereby inheriting the ACL given to respective groups. Test case -- uid: jdoe, gid: dsusers (primary) On LDAP

Authenticaing in postgresql
Hi all - Im new to dovecot and actually all things email serverish. I spent last week wrestling with exim4, and this week its dovecots turn. I'm trying to connect as an imap user (from evolution) and not actually able to make a successful login. I have default_pass_scheme=PLAIN, and am using pass authentication in evolution client. Its the only one available after it queries the server for

Puppet modifying directories by executing shell script as non-root user results in kernel-level insufficient privilege complaints
I am using Puppet 3.1.0 on a CentOS 6.3 machines. The puppet master and puppet agents use CentOS 6.3 as their OS. I have a puppet script (init.pp file for the puppet module) that contains the following exec type: exec { "postgres init": cwd => "/applications/module", command => "bash initializePostgres.sh", user => "postgres", group =>

UID GID mapping with sssd no longer supported on samba 4.7.4?
I'm struggling with a permission problem on a samba server that is configured to resolve unix uids and gids via nss using sssd. This mostly works. The windows side sees files as being owned by SID=S-1-22-<unix uid of user> and the group is SID=S-1-22-<unix gid of group> This all works fine for files owned by the windows user, or files that are world readable, but fails for

Impact of log files on performance
Hi - im trawling through my config trying to reduce chances of timeouts etc - I use postgres for all the dovecot and exim4 authentication and location of mail directories etc - and found that by eliminating logging (or reducing to almost none) the queries invovled have gone from >500ms to <3ms - Just wondering if I'll get similar performance gains with dovecot (which is set to be verbose

I dont think its permissions as it was saying 'Permission denied' till I fixed that and the UID and GID are those of the directories owner. I was prompted bythe log files to set the minimum and

I'd figure that they just move you to an instance that's already running a newer version of the o/s, giving you time to test for breakage. I really don't see them charging, except, possibly, for running in parallel during testing. mark > > -----Original

S4 class slot type S4 class
All, I am considering creating an S4 class whose slots (2) are both S4 classes. ?Since an S4 slot can be an S3 class I figure this can be done. ?However, the correct syntax of which I am unsure. ?Reviewing the docs I have come to the following conclusion: SetClass('myfoo', ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? slots = (foo1, foo2)) Without a type I believe each slot is .Data. ?A get method on the above
