debs for 1.0?
Hi,
0.99 is running nicely on my sarges, but I need
pop3_uidl_format = %f for Courier compatibility.
I can't find any debs more recent than test22 of over a year ago
(those are at http://src.braincells.com/dovecot-test/).
Even though google turns up

test77, yahoo & fetchmail
I've run into a rather narrowly scoped problem ..
On test77 and test78, mails from Yahoo's webmail are seen, by fetchmail
using imaps, to have a 0-length body. When fetching, it claims "0 body
octets". Other mail clients (mutt, kmail) can view the messages fine.
pop3s retrieval works as well. Every other email I've received so far
works fine. It's just those sent by

1.0-test77
http://dovecot.org/
It's hot in here. Something like 25-30c for many days now. My brains
don't work in that heat.
So, this is still not an 1.0-alpha1. I'll put it out when I think the
release will actually be fully working :)
Changes since test76:
 - Fixes to FETCHing MIME body parts, especially with message/rfc822
attachments. We hadn't been handling this entirely correctly

Compressed maildir
Greetings,
I noticed a while back someone posted a patch/plugin that allowed Dovecot to
use compressed mbox files. I'm now wondering how far that would put us from
having compressed maildir? I have a server with more CPU than disk space, and
while I can buy more HDD space, my backup solution doesn't make that practical.
It seems to me that when looking for a message file, if it

test76 segfaults?
Hi,
I was just trying to port my dspam plugin to the latest test release but
ran into trouble so I decided to test the code itself first.
I have the following maildir:
johannes:~/.mail$ find
.
./cur
./new
./new/test
./tmp
./.SPAM
./.SPAM/cur
./.SPAM/new
./.SPAM/tmp
Now I run
$ exec /usr/sbin/dovecot --exec-mail imap

1.0-test78
http://dovecot.org/test/
Fixes:
  - Crashes in non-x86 64bit systems
  - Bugs in cache file header caching (you probably should delete all
dovecot.index.cache files to be sure the bug won't haunt you in future)
  - FETCH ENVELOPE patch by Chris Wakelin (I'll try to figure out what
to do with the list patch later)
Known bugs left:

Asterisk -rx, how expensive is it? Should you avoid "spamming" it?
Just like the subject sais - how expensive is it to execute a lot of these
commands to keep track of different things in asterisk?
I have avoided doing this because it feels a bit like a risk to spam the
asterisk CLI this way, but is it really?
CPU-wise it doesn't seem very expensive to do it 100 times a second (from a
simple test I did), but is it possible it will affect the asterisk

Changes made to imap descriptor handling in test78?
Hello,
What has changed from test77 to test78 in the way imap manages
its descriptors? I upgraded to test78 this morning on a small
site which I use as a testbed for testing various things.
Running the same copy of my kqueue patch with test77 works
quite well [*], with test78 imap has some problems. Here is
some debugging output I recorded:

Header problems
Hi,
I don't know if this has been covered or not as I have been out of
action most of the last few weeks getting married and stuff.
My query / slight problem is when I re-install an IMAP client or change
client all mails that have been read so far show an empty header with
the date set back to 1970 but the mails are fully readable. New mails
that weren't read in a previous client show

1.0-test74
http://dovecot.org/test/
Not much has happened, but the APPEND bugfix is important since it was
broken in test73 (at least). Summer makes me tired and lazy. :(
I've been trying to get keywords implemented in maildir. Hopefully
works soon.. After that I'll create 1.0-stable2 (ugh. any other naming
ideas?) branch of the code before merging the new master/config code.

inotify support in dovecot
Hi,
I note that dovecot supported inotify from -test77, and now the Linux kernel
supports it starting from linux-2.6.13-rc3. So in theory I should be set to
go. I'm using an -mm kernel, and it was built with inotify, on FC4/devel.
However when trying to build with it using --with-notify=inotify, I always
seem to be getting this message:
checking for poll... yes
configure: error:

master/config rewrite
I've finally got it to work, kind of .. It should allow you to log in,
but several settings don't work yet and there are probably many bugs.
Anyway, I thought I'd show this already in case someone is interested
of looking how it works :)
One thing I'm still wondering a bit is if I should show process names
as:
32602 pts/19 S 0:00 dovecot/config
32603 pts/19 S

xen-br1
Hi, I''m setting up my first xen machine, and I''m trying to setup two Virtual Machines, each mapped to a physical adapter on a different network.
The virtual machine mapped to xen-br0 and eth0 works fine. However, when I bring up a VM with this configuration file:

name = "test77"
kernel = "/boot/vmlinuz-2.6.11.12-xenU"

imap crash
This is from the June 16 CVS, it also happens with June 15 but not with
June 8.
Basically, imap segfaults when opening my mbox. Some details are below:

Hi there!
Dovecot-0.99.6rc3 barfs at me when I try to compile it on OpenBSD 3.2 or

max connects per host?
Hi everyone!
I want to manage mail server resource part (like it can CGP) and with it
I have one question. Is any way to limit overall max simultaneous
connections to imap/pop3 server from one(each) host, except use
iptables/ipfw and so on? Like a patch to dovecot or, maybe, it can be
released in future versions?
I know about
mail_max_userip_connections in dovecot 1.1
but it can't limit

rsync 3.0.7 - error deleting directory
Hi,
based on a nightly cronjob we use "rsync --delete" to delete partitial
directory structure from a backup folder. Sometimes rsync is unable to
delete structure as told.

Minor bugs still in test77
Thinking of patches I always apply, I've got a couple (attached) that
fix minor bugs and maybe should be applied - or implemented better and
then applied ;) - to the main distribution?
1) LIST bugs:
LIST "~/mail/" ""
and
LIST "" "~/mail/"
(where "~/mail/" is a namespace prefix) don't reply the same way as
UW-IMAP does and in at
