Postfix + MySQL + IMAP + Squirrelmail + Virtual Domains + Web Management.
Greetings, I have long read and followed this list. I have also spent a considerable time with our good friend Google. I am a long time Sendmail user, about 15 yrs now. I have recently been looking into the newer services and the Postfix setup seems to be a very nice one. I am migrating a mail server from 3.x to 4.x and was intending on trying out Postfix on the 4.x server. I have found

Sendmail-SMTP, Cyrus-IMAPD and plus (+) addressing.
Has anyone on this list got sendmail and cyrus-imapd configured so that email addressed in the form username+folder at example.com gets delivered directly to cyrus' user.username.inbox.folder? I have been tinkering with this on and off for about a week and no matter what I have tried, all traffic addressed in the +folder format ends up in user.username.inbox instead. If anyone has gotten

Changing pop3_uidl_format
I recently set up an OpenBSD - Dovecot mail server for a client. Naturally (according to Murphy's Law) they want to use Outlook 2003, pop3s, and leave messages on the server. And just as naturally, the UIDLs don't seem to be working, and when they download mail, they get EVERY email stored on the server, not just the new ones. Other than switching them over to IMAP, I found the

Benchmarking
I wasted too much time today doing this, but they do show a few interesting things: 1) mmap_disable=yes is faster than mmap_disable=no. I didn't expect this. I'm not yet sure why this is, but possibly because then it updates the mail index by reading the changes from dovecot.index.log, instead of reopening and re-mmaping dovecot.index. At least that's the biggest difference between

Dovecot problems
Actually, I'm having problems with pop and imap. I changed mailservers this weekend, going from a Centos 3 box to a Centos 6 box. The Centos 3 box used the old standard imap and pop servers. We use horde for our webmail. The pop3 mailboxes (mbox) were in /var/spool/mail and the imap folders were in /home/user/mail, which horde took care of. Upon starting the Centos 6 box, I ran into

Mail server setup for small ISP
Hi, I will probably have to design an e-mail (and other components) infrastructure for a small ISP soon (WISP). I'm doing some research to determine which components would be best to offer e-mail services to their client and allow the staff to manage accounts easily. I usually use virtual machines a lot for isolation and easy backups and migration (when a hardware node is

Auto delete older messages in SPAM folder
Hello, I use Cyrus in my mailservers and I intend to migrate it to Dovecot. Cyrus has a setting that purge the emails from a mailbox under a pre-defined criteria. For example: EVENTS { ... # At 12:01 delete messages older than 60 days in SPAM folder deletespam cmd="ipurge -d 60 -f user/*/SPAM" at=1201 } Is there in Dovecot any setting like this ? Thank you. -- []'s Thiago

breakin' dovecot
I know this is cruel, but I figured out a way to break dovecot, temporarily. The really great news is that it recovers nicely. I'm also not sure if anything can be done about this, since I've seen the same thing happen with courier-imap, uw-imap, and maybe cyrus-imap. I used cyrus-imap for such a short period of time that I didn't get to really test it much. how to... (this

Question about Dovecot and NFS
Hi, We are using mbox and UW IMAP, and are having issues because UW IMAP does not support multiple client access when you use NFS for the mail files. I've done some research (see the comments after my 2 questions below), and most of the other major IMAP servers simply don't support it (courier is about the only one that has a positive comment). How much testing have you done

Confusion over sendmail and smtp auth on a 6.2
While certainly Centos 6.2 specific, I found the following How-tos very helpful in setting up a similar Sendmail/Dovecot configuration on Centos. http://www.falkotimme.com/howtos/sendmail_smtp_auth_tls/index.php http://www.brennan.id.au/12-Sendmail_Server.html Hope it helps. UIDL documentation
Hi, I see this in the 1.0-beta7 dovecot-example.conf file: # If you want UIDL compatibility with other POP3 servers, use: # UW's ipop3d : %08Xv%08Xu # Courier version 0 : %f # Courier version 1 : %u # Courier version 2 : %v-%u # Cyrus (<= 2.1.3) : %u # Cyrus (>= 2.1.4) : %v.%u # Older Dovecots : %v.%u # # Note that Outlook 2003 seems

Hi everyone .. need some pro-dovecot arguments :-)
Hi, i never used dovecot so far, but i heard a couple good things about it .. for one the debian maintainer of the exim package recommended it :-) so i want to change our mailserver (currently using ipop3 and uw-imap) to dovecot ... now my boss seems to favour cyrus. i could use some good arguments for dovecot, also your experiences with it and with other mailservers so i can make a

Cyrus firstname.lastname@domain
I'm converting an environment from mandrake to centos, and always try to use the applications standard on the distribution. This means a switch from courier to cyrus. A bit of reading uncovered a potential problem - the site uses firstname.lastname at domain, and I have come across references that Cyrus does not support this. I couldn't find this limitation in the Cyrus

migrating from cyrus
Hi all, I want to migrate our customers mailserver (400 mail accounts), from cyrus-2.0.16 to Dovecot. Anyone an idea how I can preserve the read/unread status and what can I do with the UIDL? (cyrus used a different algorithm for UIDL). Thanks in advance. Best regards, Jens Gutzeit

Dovecot first impressions
Hi, I have only recently become aware of Dovecot and gave it a try. The previous 0.99.9.1 version didn't work well for me (OpenSSL), I dropped it, but 0.99.10 has come just in time (saw it on freshmeat) and I thought I'd give it another try if it promised SSL fixes, and it's sorta working for me (i. e. it works with mutt, Mozilla, sylpheed, but not cone -- but cone is beta and has SSL

auth tcp socket, Authentication client gave a PID 7542 of existing connection
Hi Dovecot-list! My setup consists of a dovecot server with lmtp delivery and 3 postfix mta servers in front. Previously the mtas authenticated (SASL) through the courier-authdaemond software to our mysql database. To get support for more password formats i migrated to dovecot for SASL authentification. Our postfix mtas connect to dovecot through a tcp-socket smtpd_sasl_auth_enable = yes

Confusion over sendmail and smtp auth on a 6.2 server
I'm reading a lot on how to setup my smtp auth on a new Centos 6.2 server. I want to use sendmail and have this running on a Centos 3 machine now, so it's not new stuff to me. Unfortunately, the more I read, the more confusion I seem to have. Firstly, how to generate my certificates. A good recommendation or howto would be in order. I think most of the confusion here comes from the
