"Access is denied" after connection is apparently successful
We have a small home network with Samba running on a Slackware Linux
10.1 system, it's been running happily for several months or even
maybe a year or so. It's running Samba version 3.0.4
Recently one of the Win2k clients is getting errors when trying to
access Samba shares. The other clients are all still working OK and
the same user can access shares from other client machines.

IMAP: Get rid of non-existent folders below INBOX
Hi,
I am using Debian Sarge w/ dovecot-imapd package 0.99.14-1. Squirrelmail
created three folders below INBOX, Drafts/Sent/Trash, that I already had
elsewhere. Thus, I deleted them (through SqM).
However, both Thunderbird and Squirrelmail still show these folders
anyway. When I select them, I keep getting "Mailbox does not exist"
errors. I already tried to move all .imap.index* files

newbie questions
Thanks in advance for your patience and assistance. Since a system
administrator's work is most successful when nobody knows you've done
anything....(ugly that...you get neither raises nor equipment funding as
a result), I prefer to learn from other's experiences rather than fail
in the same pits.
We are considering a switch from UW to Dovecot, since our users persist

Commercial support
1.0 release is slowly (but surely :) getting nearer and I'd like to be
able to offer commercial support for it for those who want or need it.
I have a few different plans for how to do that, but I haven't really
decided yet what to do. So I thought I'd ask a few questions here to
see how much interest there is currently, which could help me make some
decisions sooner.

.imap files
Dovecot version: 1.0.rc7
OS: Red Hat Fedora Core 6
CPU: x86
Filesystem: Linux
I have recently upgraded from Fedora Core 4 to Fedora Core 6 (the FC6 was a
clean install, not an upgrade). Prior to the upgrade, I used Dovecot to
handle IMAP email that talked to Outlook clients. After the FC6 install and
copying the .imap* files to the newly recreated user accounts, Outlook is

imap folders
Until last week I was using old imap daemon, then i installed FEdora
Core 2 and it was replaced by dovecot or cyrus. I decided to use
dovecot, and managed to configure it. But I still have a problem, the
users imap folders (stored in their home dirs) arent visible, only the
inbox. How can I recover those folders?

Telnet Listing of IMAP mailboxes
Hello all,
I am trying to figure out why I am can't seem to access any of my mailboxes
that I moved from my OS X machine using UW-IMAP and I followed the
directions on the wiki (http://wiki.dovecot.org/MissingMailboxes) to try and
figure this out. I believe based on what I saw that my client seems to be
the problem, but my question is. Can anyone tell me what the difference

FC4 and Dovecot 1.0 not displaying all migrated mailboxes
Hello all,
I recently switched to dovecot on my FC4 server from UW-IMAP on my Mac
OS X 10.3 machine and I was able to get my inbox and my trash box to be
seen without any issues but all of my other mailboxes don't seem to show up.
My mail directory is ~/mail and that is where I placed all of my
mailboxes that I moved from my mac, but when I log into my new server
using SSL/IMAP, only my

dovecot & pine
Hello,
using
dovecot-1.0.r12 on a 6.1 FreeBSD system
and pine-4.64 on FreeBSD as well.
After switching from Courier..i cannot seem to access
my folders anymore. Just INBOX is viewable.
On different mail clients on has to resubscribe..yet there's
no such feature w/Pine.
Anyone ever had this issue?
Also, let me know what sort of info you need me to post in
here to get some help on this.

Some of my IMAP Folders vanished in some MUAs
Hi,
I'm using dovecot for some time now. Previously I was using Courier and I've
migrated this setup to dovecot which went pretty fine.
Now I'm experiencing some strange behaviour when using some newer mail
clients. Some of my Folders, like "spam", are vanished.
The strange point is that it only happens in some clients, like Thunderbird
2.x+ or KMail 3.5.x. In others,

Performance with 200k messages in Maildir
What should I expect performance-wise if I put 200000 messages in a
Maildir store and use two or three MUAs (mutt and Thunderbird), on an
Athlon dual core 2GHz with SATA drives in software RAID (Linux)?
Like; would it be useless/crawling, usable or pretty fast. I imagine MUA
startup / first time folder read would be slow, but daily use more or
less ok.
Thanks to Dovecot's indexing, I imagine

The Status: header is forced
Hi,
I started testing dovecot for our next POP/IMAP server (nearing
production state), and noticed that the Status: header is always
added, with a value of 'O' or 'RO'. This happens in
`lib-index/mbox/mbox-rewrite.c'. This does not seem to happen in
the Maildir case.
Is the Status: header really needed in every case? This breaks
mutt which displays mails with a 'O'

Lost sub-mailboxes - not showing after upgrading to Dovecot from Courier-IMAP
Last night we migrated from Courier-IMAP to Dovecot 1.2RC5 and all
seems to work fairly well, but I seem to have lost all my mailboxes
apart from INBOX. The maildirs are all on the HD in the correct place
(/usr/local/virtual/bordo.com.au/jlbrown):

Upgrade of dovecot broke imap (CentOS 4.5)
I just did a yum update and one of the packages updated was
dovecot. I've been using this for imap/pop3 for quite a while. Now,
however, I get an error when trying to login under any account. It gives
"bad user or password" errors for every user. The user can ssh in just
fine and run mutt or pine. But trying to get in with evolution, or even
squirrelmail, just gives me an

OpenSSH 3.3, OpenSSL 0.9.6d and OpenBSD 2.7
Hi All,
Just spent a number of hours fighting with the above combination of
operating system, crypto library and OpenSSH. Password authentication kept
failing and it took a number of hours to nut out the problem. It turns out
that the OpenBSD/libc version of crypt (which supports Blowfish, MD5 and
DES) wasn't being used, instead the version found in libcryto was being
utilised.

Occasional error msgs from 1.0-test49
I'm running 1.0-test49 on Solaris 2.8. MUA is Thunderbird (or mutt)
running on FreeBSD. I'm using Maildir boxes.
Occasionally, when browsing new mail in INBOX, I get an error back
from the imapd, displayed in Thunderbird as the following popup msg:

IMAP login name conversion
Hi all,
Out IMAP client (Outlook and others) use login name like joedirt at domainname.com
I need dovecot to convert it to joedirt-domainname_com since that is the local login name.
Can someone give me a hint how to do that?
Is there any simple way to do it or do I have to modify any source code?
Thanks,
Zoong
