rdiff-backup of Maildir?
What's the best way to do long-term backups of the Maildir format these days? Traditionally we've just done a rdiff-backup or pointed Bacula at the Maildir. Both give us the option to reset a particular mailbox back to a previous day (any day within the last N months). Do we just need to snapshot the LVM volume that holds all the Maildir boxes, or is there some additional commands

Maildir quotas support in Dovecot and 2 other newbie questions
I am not familiar with all the features that Dovecot has, but I am familiar with Courier IMAP using Maildir. Does Dovedot have a software based Maildir supporting quota program like Courier IMAP ? Can maildrop be used with Dovecot for quotas ? Courier IMAP has maildrop integrated. - If maildrop support is turned on in Courier IMAP, then a user will get a quota warning mail message

Maildir and home location
Hello! My current mail setup looks like that: MTA is postfix, MDA is maildrop. Each system user configures mail delivery using the .mailfilter of maildrop to arbitrary maildirs in his home. For each maildir a POP3/IMAP account can be configured, currently I use courier-imap/-pop and think about replacing it by dovecot. AFAIK with dovecot each account has a home and maildir assigned which

Garbled mails in Maildir storage
Hi, from time to time i am having mails delivered to my anon maildrop which completely break mailbox listing. I ignored it mostly as this is an anon maildrop for one time emails so loosing spam wasnt an issue. Today i had a mailbox which wouldnt list at all which was caused by 50 consecutive mails beeing broken. (I am showing the last 20 in the web interface) After some debugging i found a bunch

External HDD query
Greetings, I have a USB external 2TB HDD with one NTFS partition which is to be used for backup up from about 5-8 workstations (all Win*) all are shut down when the office is closed I am playing around with Amanda server on Centos 5.7. (It is over 3 years since I last implemented Amanda for about 50 workstations mostly Fedora and couple of XP boxes -- it sang and danced quite nicely.) Now the

Assertion in istream.c::167 in POP3 mode when maildir content has wrong S value (using 2.2.13)
Hi, the affected machine is running 2.2.13 on Gentoo x86_64. For me it looks like the old size is still in some struct or whereever even after the file has been renamed. I see that there are many commits following 2.2.13, is that possibly already fixed or do I need to dig in the code? The original problem seems to be that maildrop uses the file size before piping the mail into spamassassin

problem with rdiff
Hi all. (I am sending this querry here because it is somehow relating to rsync. If i am wrong please pardon me.) I am doing following on these windowsXP and Vista. I am trying to get only incremental backup using "rdiff-backup" (that also uses rsync). I have installed gcc compiler and by following the steps given in http://katastrophos.net/andre/blog/2005/11/02/rdiff-backup-on-windows/

maildir / deliver question
Hi all, I have the following situation: On a qmail toaster I am running (with dovecot 1.2.12 as the IMAP server), spam mail gets automatically put into a 'this might be spam' folder (per user). Now, every user has the opportunity to move that mail into either a 'learn as spam' or a 'this was ham' folder and the mail items will be treated accordingly. As a cronjob, I run

How to add the missing maildir folders
Hi fellow list members, What would be the best way to add the .Sent,.Draft, etc. folders to the maildir tree? It seems not Dovecots task to do that but of the MUA. I have seen several options. Use of skel but that works only for new system users. I have only virtual users preloaded in a database. I've discoverred that ONLY Roundcube add the folders (if configured to do that) but I've

. (dot) in maildir folder names
Hi. Uhm... yeah as the topic implies I want to have . (dots) in my folder names... Unfortunately dovecot's maildirmake hasn't a -f switch as the one from courier/maildrop, but that one in turn is buggy[0] and doesn't encode any characters at all. In principle, maildir++ should allow[1] having (encoded) dots in folder names,... but I don't quite understand how the encoding

rsync'ing an rdiff-backup repository
I'm rsync'ing an rdiff-backup repository to a different machine and I have a few questions I'm hoping you guys can help me out with. Should I use --archive? Or maybe -rlD instead? Can I restrict an SSH key to rsync? I can do it with rdiff-backup with command="rdiff-backup --server" but I can't figure out how to do it with rsync. The rdiff-backup repository I'm

rdiff-backup update broken?
After the recent yum update to rdiff-backup-1.2.2-1.el5.rf rdiff-backup no longer works. I don't "speak" python so not sure what's going on. Here's a portion of what I'm seeing... # rdiff-backup /etc/ /backup/localhost/etc Exception '[Errno 34] Numerical result out of range' raised of class 'exceptions.IOError': File

exmaple problems
I do not know if this has been reported already (I searched the headers of the recent messages to r-devel) It seems that 'example' in R 2.11.0 has a problem when the help file does not contain any example. This is what happens on R 2.11.0 on Windows XP. > library(tools) > example(Rdiff) Error in file(con, "r") : cannot open the connection In addition: Warning message: In

Backup PC or other solution
I wonder why nobody has yet mentioned rdiff-backup. It combines browsable directories with multiple versions - the version data is stored in a separate rdiff-backup-data subdirectory (one per backup task). One downside is that rdiff-backup causes a lot of network traffic. For that reason I currently use rsync to copy over network, and then I use rdiff-backup locally to create a repository

Dovecot auth user lookup patch for maildrop
Hi, recently I started using maildrop as a MDA doing lightweight filtering in a Postfix/Dovecot mail server combo. Only thing missing was the fact that maildrop couldn't perform user lookups against a user database that was already being served by Dovecot (for smtp auth in Postfix and for imap access obviously) in order to easily determinate proper mailbox location and home directory of

Implementing a conditional branch within rsync based on modified time of a file
Greetings, I've been looking through archives, googling, and reading through man pages to no avail for some time now. I believe I need some combination of rsync -u (update) and rsync --del, and I'm not quite sure how to get it. I'm looking to build a rough implementation of a multi-client rdiff-backup system; in order to do this I'm using rsync before rdiff-backup. (We'll
