dovecot-auth defunct
Hi,
I'm running dovecot-0.99.11-2.EL4.1 in RHEL4 and a couple of
hours ago, I could not longer login in the imap or pop3 service.
I noted that I have a process like this:
root 8130 0.0 0.0 0 0 ? Z 16:55 0:00
[dovecot-auth] <defunct>
It this ok to have a defunct proccess? I can not kill this process.
I have to stop the dovecot service, killall pop3-login and

Running libvirtd outside of a shell results in qemu defunct processes
Hi,
In KubeVirt we are right now starting libvirt via a wrapper shell
script. I want to remove that wrapper and directly start libvirtd from
our golang code. This means that our golang code is PID 1 in the
container and we start libvirtd as a fork from there.
When I did this, strange things started to happen. Libvirt was still
able to start and manage qemu processes, but stopping the qemu

asterisk and defunct perl procs
Trying to figure out why I'm having all of my test (and demo) perl script in a defunct status. Each run creates a problem:

IMAP server <defunct> (beta 7)
Hi,
We've been using a 0.99 version of Dovecot for nearly a year without
problems, but due to a server death I had to reinstall with the same
configuration as before, but more recent versions of the software, on
different hardware.
This time though, every few days IMAP login and access fails, and the
output of ps ax shows entries such as [imap-login] <defunct> and

defunct in 1.24 on FreeBSD Alphaserver
Hello,
I've recently upgraded Dovecot from 1.1.16 to 1.2.4 on FreeSBD 6.3-
RELEASE running on old Alphaserver 1200.
Some time after this upgrade all user's MUAs showed error that user
password was not accepted. I've noticed many zombies of imap and pop3
processes on my server (all in defunct state). Looks like when
"login_max_processes_count" was reached, Dovecot

SJava - restart() is defunct
Hi,
I'm using the SJava package and am trying to get event
handling to work, but no examples from
http://www.omegahat.org/RSJava/examples/ that have any event
handling work in R 1.9.0. I think the examples were all
written around 2001 so most probably used an older version
of R. The error message that displays in R is:
Error: 'restart' is defunct.
See ?Defunct.

Defunct / zombie AGI after some execution time
Hello,
We are running Asterisk-1.0.12 in a CentOS 4-4.2 system, kernel
2.6.9-42.0.3.ELsmp.
We have some custom AGI, and when we launch Asterisk the system works fine.
But **after some time**, each AGI execution generates a zombie <defunct> process.
We believe that it's not a problem in the AGI code, because Asterisk+AGI is
working fine in the first "n" minutes/hours. This

[PATCH][VNC Auth] Fix qemu-dm becomes defunct when rebooting hvm domain
Hi,
Sorry, I should not have removed infomation on xend.
image.py, line 399, in configVNC
config.remove([''vncpasswd'', vncpasswd_vmconfig])
When vncpasswd is removed, qemu-dm cannot be started in reboot of hvm domain.
Because necessary information disappears.
It cannot be helped though information in config list remains in xenstore.
This patch corrects above.

Defunct processes on solaris 10
Hi,
I'm getting a few defunct processes running samba 4.4.16. They tend to
accumulate over time, however they dissapear after I do a `svcadm
restart samba`. Samba is joined to an AD domain.

dedicated keytab file = /etc/samba/krb5.keytab

rsync hangs, leaves defunct process
Hello,
I'm experiencing a weird problem which I haven't been able to track down
for 8+ weeks now.
Situation is as follows: There is a nigthly backup from our main server
to a backup server. The server base directory is mounted there read-only
via NFS. Then we do something like this:
1. Duplicate the contents of yesterday's backup into
/sicherungen/2007/02/02/01.41/

defunct smbd processes on SGI
Hello
We are running samba on SGI/SUN/HP fileservers.
We saw a problem on the SGI fileservers.
After a while a lot of defunct smbd deamons were hanging and
occupying the slots in the process table.
We saw the problem with IRIX 5.2 and samba 1.9.16p11 and
IRIX 6.2 and samba 1.9.17.p4 .
Has anybody seen this problem before? This is a serious problem, because
the smbd daemons are filling the

ts() defunct in R 2.5.0?
Hi!
I have written an R-package
(http://tocsy.agnld.uni-potsdam.de/wavelets/index.html) in R 2.4.1
that requires the ts() function. Users using R 2.5.0 now have a
problem installing this package. I checked the package using R 2.5.0:

Defunct processes w/ v1.2.1
I have limited information at the moment (currently distracted by other
projects) but I'm hoping that someone has already found and solved this
problem.
I have a v1.2.1 installed on my development box waiting for me to tinker
with the configuration. On several occasions, I have noticed that all
the dovecot processes are listed as "defunct". I don't recall seeing
anything

couple of days of running, when I run top - one process went defunct and
the other starts to slowly use up memory:

Dovecot-auth <defunct>
We have used qpopper on our email server RH 9 for long. But recently as the
number of people using the server has increased too fast we have to switch
to dovecot. Things seem to be OK with the rate users post and receive
emails. But from that time very often I see this when top:
. dovecot-auth <defunct>
And some people sometimes have to restart their outlook to receive emails

how to clear <defunct> qemu-system-x86 processes
Hi all,
I have a long term running program which call libguestfs to check VM
images. but i found that each time after i call guestfs_close(), the
qeum-system-x86 process which is forked by libguestfs changes to
<defunct> process.
as docs of guestfs_close said "This closes the connection handle and
frees up all resources used.", so this is a bug or is there any other

Scads of defunct processes ins AIX 4.3.3
I hope someone can help. I've installed 2.9p2 on a number of AIX boxes and
it works great.
The problem is that a HUGE >700 number of defunct processes get generated
by sshd. Did I do
something wrong ? Any suggestions ?
Please email chuck at fiu.edu as I don't subscribe to the list.
TIA,
Chuck
