directory names - have to begin with a dot?
Hi there...
Two questions:
(1) Is there an easy way to have Dovecot recognize subdirectories that
do not begin with a dot as sub-hierarchies?
(2) Is there a way to have the root folder map to a certain other
mbox/maildir? I want a setup like this:
/ -> $HOME/mbox
/INBOX -> /var/spool/<username>
/folder -> $HOME/mail/folder
/folder/foo -> $HOME/mail/folder/foo

Mixing mbox and maildir
Hi there.
I understood that in Dovecot 1.0 it should be possible to mix the usage
of mbox and maildir mailboxes.
I just downloaded, built, and am testing dovecot-stable-20050304.
I'm a bit confused as to the terms of namespaces (haven't read that
part of the RFC yet), but this does not seem related.
Anyway, when I try specifying:
default_mail_env = ~/mail/:INBOX=/var/mail/%u

Envelope From changed - why?
Hi there.
I am evaluating Dovecot as an IMAP server. I noticed on thing which
irritates me. When a user saves a message to an IMAP folder with the
Dovecot server, the envelope From line is changed to the address of
that user, instead of keeping the From line of the original message.
How can I have the original envelope From line preserved when saving
messages?

LSI MegaRAID system status
Dear list,
I have inherited a CentOS-5 box with a LSI Sata Raid controller.
It is configured as a RAID5 w/hot-standby. My concern is that
I have no present means of determining the RAID status w/o
downing the system and going into the bios to get status. If
a disk has failed and brought the standby disk online, I would
like to know about it, the day it happens by seeing it in syslog
or getting

Dovecot-1.0.beta1: New mail sometimes fails to appear
Hi there...
Having updated to 1.0.beta1, I for a while thought a bad bug with IDLE
handling that caused new mail in INBOX not to appear when using Mozilla
Thunderbird has been solved. Although I can not reproduce one kind of
problem anymore, after a short while it again appears that one does not
always see one's new mail with Thunderbird.
I can not consistently reproduce the bug, but

User friendly vacation service
Dear Dovecot list,
I maintain a few small sendmail/dovecot/procmail based
mail servers with system users only (no virtual domains
or virtual users) on OpenBSD.
I have been able to get a vacation system working with
both with the native vacation program from OpenBSD and
with procmail. I've been looking into dovecot sieve,
but it doesn't appear to solve the bigger user complaint
which is,

Namespace with a single mailbox (for spam)
Hi there.
Perhaps this is answered somewhere, but a short search through the
mailing list and Wiki yielded nothing.
We have spam filtering set up for all users, with all messages over
some spam threshold going to a separate mbox. There is one directory
containing the spam mboxes of all users (call it "/var/spool/spam",
right now), with the spam box of a user residing in

Problem with squirrelmail and dovecot 1.1
Hello!
I'm running squirrelmail 1.4.8 (I know this is not the latest version) and
know I'm having troubles with:
1.) Folder list view
2.) Save to sent or Drafts folder.
Configuration worked well. I think it has to do with the upgrade from
dovecot 1.0 to 1.1 and the LIST command. Thunderbird/alpine work well.
Commands from rawlog are:
A002 LIST "" "~/Mail/Drafts"

1.0-test7
http://dovecot.org/test/
Lots of bugfixes related to syncing. There's still some left.
Somewhat working mbox support:
- combined syncing/rewriting uses much less disk I/O than with older
mbox code
- expunges aren't working yet
- last-uid field in X-IMAPbase header isn't updated
- it's currently syncing the whole mbox constantly even if it hasn't
changed
- it

Dovecot 2.2.1 subscribtion status in LIST
Hi there,
I am using Evolution to connect to dovecot imap server. Today the server was upgraded to 2.2.1 from 2.1.9, and there is problem with evolution being unable to subscribe to INBOX.
This is from dovecot 2.1.9:

* LIST (\Subscribed) "." "Sent Items"
* LIST (\Subscribed) "." "Junk E-mail"

Questions regarding quota
Hi,
I have some trouble trying to test the quota plugin.
First off all, it says in the wiki: "Dovecot 1.0 supports quota using a
quota plugin. It's currently discussed in Dovecot LDA page and it
supports only very simple quota calculation which is suitable only for
mboxes. Maildir++ quota support will come later."
Does that mean that it won't work at all with Maildir++, or

1.0 beta1 released
As promised, here it is finally.
v1.0 is getting nearer and I want people to start looking at Dovecot's
sources. Getting some more help with development would be nice, but I'd
also like to hear if there are any hidden bugs in the code. So, one week
from now I'll start offering 1000 EUR for the first person to point out
a remotely exploitable security hole in Dovecot. See

My Dsync isn't replicating 'EXPUNGE' IMAP command
Hi!
I have two Dovecot-2.2.13 servers with Dsync Replication: server1 and
server2.
When I execute 'EXPUNGE' on server1 side, the messages with FLAG
\Deleted are expunged only on server1. The message is still present in
Server2.
Could someone give me a hint reason for this ?
Thanks in advance!

Dovecot upgrade from 1.2.x to 2.0.x: roundcube/squirrelmail sent folder doesn't work any more
Hello,
After upgrading from 1.2.x to 2.0.x I'm having problems using sent
folder in Webmail applications like roundcube mail and squirrelmail.
Relevant config dovecot.conf:
mail_location = mbox:~:INBOX=/var/mail/%u
Different LIST behaviour from rawlog:
1.2.x: with Prefix ~/Mail
A002 LIST "" "~/Mail/sent"

Changing the PATH from the command line
I am not very experienced with the MSDOS command line
and even less so with wine.
I am working on a realtime embedded C project and must,
for the time being, use DOS command line tools. Since
my work environment for decades has been Unix and Unix-like,
I am trying to get the tool set to run under Wine on Hardy.
I have solved several problems, but now I need to reset
the path. I have a .bat

Help - I keep getting LSUB permission denied
Hi,
I am using dovecot: 1.0.rc15
I was upgrading Debian and installed new versions of lots of things.
My mail came fine and I though there was not problem until a user called
and said it was not working through webmail. I tried, it it worked fine
and I realized the problem was with dovecot. I have created new users,
tried different UIDs. Removed any protections but when I telnet to the

Mixing MBOX and Maildir?
Is it possible to have some folders be mbox and some be maildir format?
Why you might ask? Sometime for diagnostics I have the Exim MTA archive
certain messages in MBOX format and then I want to copy them into an
imao folder to look at them with Thunderbird. When I used MBOX all I had
to do was copy the file into a folder and it worked. So what I'd like to
do is have a folder with a

IMAP error with squirrelmail - how to debug?
When moving messages with squirrelmail (or kmail), I get the

IMAP subscriptions - how, for what and why?
Again, not a Dovecot issua - but can someone clarify better what IMAP
subscriptions (SUBSCRIBE/UNSUBSCRIBE/LSUB) are and what they are used
for?
I've seen a few times in Microsoft mail clients, the options to
subscribe to folders and to "show only subscribed folders". I haven't
played much with them, though. But what's the actual point? Except
for being returned in the
