pam and sasl2-sample-server failure
I'm setting up a postfix server using "The Book of Postfix". In ch 15
there is a section on testing saslauthd which I can't get to work. I
can get it to work using shadow password authentication, but it fails
on pam. I don't kow squat about troubleshooting pam. Any PAM wizzes
out there that can help? I saw a unrelated post talking about
something needing to be in the pam

ASMTP setup on 4.8
Hello,
I'm trying to set up a sendmail server on 4.8 that supports auth-based
relaying. I followed the procedures at
http://puresimplicity.net/~hemi/freebsd/sendmail.html, and aside from
having to run makes manually in the library directories, I had no
difficulty. I did not use the rebuild world recommendation, though.
Everything is up and running, but whenever I try to send mail

Sendmail not presenting AUTH option after EHLO
Hello folks,
I have a CentOS 6.4 installation running Sendmail, and after some serious hair tear stare and compare I'm a bit stumped. When I connect to the server either with telnet or SSL, sendmail is not presenting the AUTH capability after an EHLO. Everything looks like it should be working, but no amount of tweaking is getting the AUTH capability advertised (and it doesn't work if

Using dovecot sasl for authenticating in openldap
Hi,
I am using dovecot imaps and exim, both authenticating using dovecot-sasl. To keep passwords in one place I would like
to authenticate openldap users over dovecot-sasl.
So looking at this page:
http://www.openldap.org/doc/admin24/security.html
I figure it could be done using Pass-Through authentication.
For this, I need to create
/usr/lib/sasl2/slapd.conf
And adding a few config

Increase logging verbosity of saslauthd?
Hi
CentOS 7.X, sendmail.x86_64 8.14.7-5.el7, cyrus-sasl.x86_64 2.1.26-23.el7
There are conflicting message on how to increase the logging of saslauthd.
I know I can do this:
/usr/sbin/saslauthd -d -n0 -m /var/run/saslauthd -a pam
but that requires a terminal as saslauthd logs the output to STDOUT, this is not what I want.
I would like to have it started as a daemon and verbosity of

Why is dovecot involved in my smtp process
I've been trying to get smtp auth set up for days. All my sendmail and
sasl2 stuff seems to be proper, but the user can't use the system on
port 587, which is where I require authorization.
Now I see where messages are in my maillog of the type:
auth: pam_unix(dovecot:auth) : authentication failure ........
Why is dovecot involved in my smtp processes and how do I fix this. I've

SMTP auth with Sendmail
Dear All,
I have two machines, a Centos 3.4 machine and a Centos 4.1 machine.
I have used the same sendmail.mc file on each, and 3.4 machine does
plain SMTP auth with no problems, compiling the same mc file on the 4.1
machine gives this error:
xxxxx [x.x.x.x] did not issue MAIL/EXPN/VRFY/ETRN during connection to MTA
in the logs, it doesn't even try to authenticate, the cyrus sasl rpm

CentOS-5.3 saslauth configuration issue
I am trying to get cyrus-imapd and saslauthd running together so
that I can get squirrelmail to work. I have accomplished this on
several other servers and have relatively complete documentation on
how to do this. What I am running into in this case has me baffled.
If I start saslauthd as a service:
# service saslauthd start
And I try testsaslauthd -u cyrus -p test
Then I see this:

Dovecot and Active Directory Authentication
First off, sorry if this has been asked before - I have looked, honest.
Is it possible to get dovecot to authenticate users against active
directory, treating the AD as a plain ldap server? I have this working
with cyrus saslauthd.
Currentlt I get a long delay (30 seconds or so) then
* BYE Disconnected for inactivity.
All I get in the maillog is

cyrus-imapd - unable to connect to POP3
This is the first time I am using cyrus-imapd package.
I am unable to retrieve messages (pop3). At first, I had not entered
the cyrus-master in /etc/hosts.allow and was getting connection refused.
After adding the entry I am able to connect to port 110 but for some
reason the pop3 server is failing the password authentication (see
below). With the same userid/passwd I am able to ssh into the

check password on behalf of user
I'm running KDC with all users and passwords, but have to manage clients
who doesn't support GSSAPI like mobile phones. Is it possible to dovecot
SASL check password in KDC when user sends plain text login? I know this
is possible to do with saslauthd from Cyrus but prefer to stick with
dovecot SASL.

build postfix rpm with mysql
hello list,
I'm trying to build a postfix rpm that has mysql support included.
I've found the line where I need to define mysql support but it seems
that I am being tripped up by some build dependencies:

error: Failed build dependencies:
