mbox slowness in dovecot-1.0-test61
Hi,
We're trying out Dovecot to see if it's a good replacement for UW-imapd.
It seems to be very slow in opening an mbox file, even after it's been
indexed. (I mean way slower than UW)
Here's some info on the system:

Backup Maildir
Hi All,
I'm currently doing nightly full backups of /home. I'm not sure if a
full back up is the best way to do backups. I know with my
fileserver i do weekly full backup and daily incremental which would
file on those type of files. I guess my question to the group is,
how do you guys backup Maildir? whats the best way of doing it?

Oddities with Debian unstable dovecot
Hello,
I'm running an Debian etch box with unstable and ever since the last upgrade to dovecot, I've seen odd things. At times, I would see emails would go missing from the Inbox or other folders, and I couldn't move emails that were moved from the Inbox to another folder back into the Inbox. These have seen gone away since I removed all dovecot.* files and .index* files from my

Dovecot LDA config problem on RHEL 4 x86_64
Hello,
Has anyone succeeded on configuring and compiling Sieve capable Dovecot
LDA on RHEL 4 x86_64 platform?
I am having problems with configure script hanging on sed while creating
Makefiles.

mysql
Hello,
Does dovecot require mysql in order to work? Fedora rpms are claiming
mysql dependencies.
I'm sure you're aware of the long-lived arguement of postgresql v. mysql.
If it wasn't your intention to force this, then please snarl at Red Hat.
If it was your intention, then grrrrr!
Thanks for this product. I like it for it's speed and stability.

Nightly stable & SSL-problems
Getting it otherwise to work, but I still can't get it to listen any
SSL-ports.
been testing:
protocols = imap imaps pop3 pop3s

ssl_listen = 193.65.59.150
doesn't help. with:
ssl_disable = no
of course.

Is Timo OK?
Hi,
does anyone know where Timo is around lately? I haven't seen a post from
him for some weeks now and "normally" Timo is quite active when it comes
to supporting his 'dovecot' warp drive :-)

Does HEP require PJSIP or does it also works with SIP ?
Hello,
On a newly built Asterisk 13.13.1 system, I can't make HEP work with
chan_sip (though I could make it work with PJSIP on another instance).
Looking either at [1] or hep.conf, I can't see anything meaning HEP
requires PJSIP.
Before diging deeper, may I simply ask if HEP requires PJSIP or not ?
What about a line mentioning the answer in above documents (to keep other

Does dovecot support subfolders in Outlook (and in general)
Ok,
I am playing around with dovecot and things are running relatively
smoothly. I am using Outlook as that is what the client uses for
Email. I can copy messages to and from the IMAP folder. I can create
folders from the root directory fine.
My question is this.
I have folders like this:
IMAPServer
--Inbox
--Trash
--WorkToDo
Now when I try and create a subfolder in "WordToDo"

More verbose logging of POP transactions?
Hi all -
I'm brand new to dovecot (0.99.14 on freebsd 5) and am just
playing with it a bit. POP works just fine, but the only thing that shows
up in my logs is this:
Sep 7 11:46:25 freebsd5 pop3-login: Login: philip [10.28.61.200]
Thought maybe syslog was quietly eating things, but told dovecot to use
it's own log file and it didn't improve.
Is there a way to turn on more

assertion problems w/ 1.0alpha4
Hey list,
I have been using 0.99.14 for a while now but recently decided to try to
upgrade to 1.0alpha4 to get the latest and greatest. I'm building from
source myself on a Slackware 10.0 machine. Slackware ships with UW-IMAP
configured to keep your inbox in /var/spool/mail and your other folders
in ~/. I've been using the same setup for dovecot so that the migration

How safe is mbox_very_dirty_syncs?
I've tried turning on mbox_very_dirty_syncs for myself (and a few other
brave souls running 1.0-alpha3 rather than 1.0-stable) again to see what
perfomance gain it gives (see thread
http://www.dovecot.org/list/dovecot/2005-July/007956.html).
Now we aren't running UW-IMAP at all, how safe is mbox_very_dirty_syncs
assuming the only other process writing to mailboxes is our MTA (exim)

dovecot-lda macro `AM_PROG_LIBTOOL' not found in library
I'm trying to get dovecot-lda working on a FreeBSD 6.0-RELEASE box (also had
the same problem on 5.4)
When I run autogen.sh I get the following output:

You should update your `aclocal.m4' by running aclocal.

imaps on alternate ports
I'm trying to test out dovecot 1.0 alpha 3 prior to an upgrade from
dovecot-0.99.14, but I cannot get imaps listening on anything other than 993.
I've tried putting
listen = *:2023
in the global section or in the imap { } section.
No luck. What is the proper format for a config that only runs imaps and only
listens on a particular port?

Segfault when using multiple servers
Should it be possible to run multiple dovecot servers on the same
mailboxes (Maildir in my case)? I've a setup where 2 dovecot 0.99.13
servers write to the same mailboxes, which dovecot apparently does not
like too much.
Example (using imap):
- Login with mail client on server1
- Login with webmail on server2
- Delete a mail using webmail on server2
- Hit send/receive in the mail client

- saving/copying mails into maildir which didn't have index files was
broken

There are still some crashes and I don't remember if I fixed a problem
with mboxes where expunging mails while new mails were coming caused

- Fixed dying with SIGIO signal with busy Maildir + Linux + IDLE system
- Fixed maildir syncing: "UIDs not ordered in file" errors could have

- --with-ioloop=epoll enables epoll code with Linux 2.6. Untested after
my changes.
- Pretty big changes in internal index handling code (I started this
change 2-3 months ago..)

Non standart mbox path
Hi!
I need set to dovecot non standart mbox path. For example,
/var/service/mail/%u. How I can do it?
I see default_mail_env parameter, but I don't undestend how it used.
Thanks!
