Rails session parasite...
All,
I see this item on the merb-0.0.8 release notes
Added rails session parasite mode.
I am assuming merbs can piggy back off the rails current session.
How does one achieve that ?
Thanks
Fernand

Non-Erubis Templates
Trunk Issue: Because of the use of ''autoload'', template handlers other
than Erubis are not loaded automatically (Haml, XMLBuilder). Either
this should be fixed, or the documentation should be updated to
instruct people how to use non-Erb template engines.
Apparently the solution is to do something like this in merb_init.rb:
::Merb::AbstractController.register_engine

Routes
hi all,
I want to move some routing tasks out of the router and into the
controller. The goal is to make Merb feel less like mod_rewrite and
give the user more control at the controller. The new Router is
simple: it takes the path_info (not the whole request) then outputs a
controller class and some parameters from the path matching. The rest
of the routing would be done at the controller level.

respond_to API
I''ll probably do my respond_to API rewrite, as discussed here:
http://rubyforge.org/pipermail/merb-devel/2007-September/000275.html
sometime this week, unless someone has come up with a better API.
I''ll also work in http://merb.devjavu.com/ticket/227 at the same time.
Any serious objections?

Route Information
Is there a method to return a hash of the route configuration based on
a path?
For example:
magic_method(''/my_controller/my_action/my_id'')
=>
{:controller => ''my_controller'', :action => ''my_action'', :id =>
''my_id''}
Thanks!
Tom

Couple of questions for Merb 0.4
All,
I have just updated to the latest release of merb 0.4 and I am
wondering how I can get my controller changes
to reload without bouncing the server ? I am running in dev mode
but my changes to my merb controller don''t
seem to get picked up on new requests.
Also say I have a controller that needs to render an alternate
xml format ie something like:

merb 0.4.0 - redirect problems
I had redirects working just the other day... before I upgraded to the
latest release. Can somebody please chime in as to why this simple redirect
is throwing an error?
Controller:

def do
redirect "http://www.ebay.com"
end
Error Output:

Question abt redirect_to..
I found a reference to using attachment_fu and followed the lead of it
but having an issue with the redirect_to that renders the fb:render
tag - In my form I''m setting the canvas to false, file is being
uploaded / save fine but when I attempt to redirect:
redirect_to :action => :new, :canvas => true
Unfortunatly it looks like my callback URL is getting printed twice, e.g.

Cookie Sessions in Merb?
I like the cookie sessions that Rails edge has - they make sense,
they''re fast, easy.
For those that don''t know: the default session mechanism is to give
developers a Hash called session. To store this object between
requests it Marshals the session object and sends the object itself
(now as a bitstream) back to clients to store in their cookie file. To
prevent users from

A Proposal To Magically Remove ''params''
I have a magical proposal for the anti-magic web framework.
Controller methods do not use arguments and yet expect arguments. This
is handled through this params hash because we don''t know in advance
what parameters a client could pass to Merb. But in almost every
instance, it is too much to know all the query parameters - one
doesn''t care if the user threw in an extraneous

controller exceptions
Since Merb has the lovely property of rendering the output of an
action, using ruby-level exceptions to render error pages in Merb
could be a cute way to approach error handling.
Suppose one has an action for editing a product which you would like
to restrict to administrators:
def edit
raise AdminAccessReqired unless session[:user] and session[:user].admin?
@product =

Problem with url_for and https - overrides all options
I have a piece of code like this in one of my views:
<%=link_to "link here", :action=>''my_action'', :id=>1 %>
It works fine on my local development machine, running Webrick over http
and it works fine on my testing server which is running single mongrel
instance behind Apache 1.3 as a proxy. On both the outcome link is this:

http helpers c extension
hi,
I rewrote escape, unescape, and query_parse in a C extension.
http://s3.amazonaws.com/four.livejournal/20070922/http_helpers.tar.bz2
Here are some sample benchmarks (the benchmark script is included in
the package)

Problem returning a Proc
I''m just playing with a recent Merb trunk (-r590). All the specs pass, apart
from 2 pending.
Now, the README says: "if you return a Proc object from your action, it will
be called and the return value sent to the client."
However this doesn''t seem to work with the following test controller:
class Hello < Application
def world
res = "Hello world from

More than one parameter with link_to_remote
Hi all,
I''m trying to pass more than one parameters using link_to_remote, but I''m
getting a behaviour that seems quite strange to me. Here''s the code:
link_to_remote ''some text'',
:update => ''form'',
:method => ''get'',
:url => { :action =>

serving static files
It seems that Merb is sending static files with Mongrel::DirHandler.
(mongrel_handler.rb:52)
if get_or_head and @files.can_serve(path_info)
# File exists as-is so serve it up
MERB_LOGGER.info("Serving static file: #{path_info}")
@files.process(request,response)
I haven''t done benchmarks and I''ve hardly glanced at DirHandler''s code
but the

link_to_remote where the url contain a javascript variable
Ok, so I am basically trying to use ''link_to_remote'' and pass the value
of a javascript variable as an argument. Something like that:
link_to_remote "my_link",
:update => ''my_div'',
:url => { :action => "my_action", :var =>
''my_var'' }

Reusing a model to form and link_to.
Hy guys,
Inside my app I have a form which contains user information.
Sometimes a have a form with a text_field as above:

"my_controller", :action => "my_action") }) %>
<%= text_field(''my_object'', ''my_parameter'', :maxlength =>

Merb Init Script
I''m trying to emulate the mongrel_cluster_ctl but it takes a -c
conf_file option... meaning I can run it from anywhere as long as I
tell it where the conf file is. Merb doesn''t have that capability does
it? (it has an additional/supplemental config like mup.conf etc)
Do I have to be under the merb_app root /path/to/merb/app/ to be able
to run merb?
Let me know.
Thanks,

Unknown method error with control_for
Is there a trick to using control_for in forms? I''ve been trying to
make a simple form with a couple of text fields and I keep getting a
