Samba newbie problems
Hi I have recently installed samba on a RH7.0 box. This box has win98 + linux rh7 installed and both os's are running well. The F drive on windows is FAT32 and is mounted r/w on linux RH7. Works fine. I also have a Win98se machine that needs to have full read/write access to some partitions on the RH7 box. Samba was found ideal for such setup. The problem I have is that I can't write to

Borland C++-5.5 (free) compiler does not install(?)
Hello! I'm trying to install Borland C++ 5.5 free compiler into my RH7 Linux box but I can't get it to work. Running the installer brings a blank dialog with "Prev", "Next" and "Cancel" buttons but nothing more.. and pressing the buttons doesn't do anything and the dialog doesn't close. I waited for more than 15 minutes (I read it in FAQ

when RedHat makes patches for only some versions
I guess this is really a RedHat, not CentOS question, but I?m hoping that someone here will be familiar enough with the upstream policy to have some useful information. How does RedHat decide which versions to release patches for, e.g. https://access.redhat.com/security/cve/CVE-2015-7613 <https://access.redhat.com/security/cve/CVE-2015-7613> which has only a RH7 erratum, not 6? And are

find the right (wine) path
wine version 20001002 running in rh7. installed and working. Have a newbie question about command line paths to access windows apps. No problem accessing anything in c:\windows eg freecell.exe by the simple command # wine freecell.exe the mount directory is named /dos (and is in /etc/wine/wine.conf under Drive c) so I assume that the command # wine /dos/agent/agent.exe should bring up the

Recent wines on RH7/kernel-2.4.0
I'm not running RedHat(running Debian rather), but I've run Wine under 2.4.0, 2.4.1 and 2.4.2-pre3 kernels without any trouble. RPM of R-1.2.1 for RH 7?
There does not seem to be a RPM for Red Hat 7 of version 1.2.1. What should I do? I have a new computer with RH7. I''m willing to try to make one from the SRPM, but I''ve never done that before, and I don''t want to go to the trouble if someone else is already planning to do it soon. Likewise, I could install it from the tgz file. (I just did that on a Solaris server,

Slow printing to HP jetdirect from cups
I've googled for this and poked around linuxprinting.org, but couldn't find anything helpful. I have a CentOS 5 server with an HP LaserJet 4 attached via JetDirect with the hplip driver. The problem is that when I have multiple print jobs in the queue, there is a delay of about 15 seconds between each job. This gets very annoying when there are 10-15 one-page jobs in the queue.

**££!!*** Proliant!
This Proliant (ml330 G3) has an HP CSB-6 (LSI/Megaraid) disk controller that isn't recognised by the installer. A quick search on Google reveals drivers from RH7 - AS2.1 but nothing for 3 or 4 unless anyone knows different!? If not I'll just have to disable it and install a supported RAID card. Anyone!? Nigel

HOWTO Samba on RH 7.0
Hello all: While I'm recovering from gall bladder surgery, I thought I'd do something useful (since sitting up is about the only comfortable position I can find)... like create a HOWTO Samba (-2.0.7-21ssl) on RH7 (w/ xinetd-2.1.8.9pre14). I have already sent off the request to the HOWTO coordinator at linuxdoc.org (has anyone noticed that the listed email address

SSL CA cert error from smbclient
I'm getting the following error on two of my RH7 boxes that are using SMB to connect to other Windows boxes on our network. I'm sure that someone else has run into this problem, as I have found a cursory reference to it on this mailing list. However, I have not been able to locate a fix for it (other than that the last individual change the directory that SSL was looking to for certs).

make 3.79.1 assertion failed error
Hi, Sorry for cross-posting but I need to tap into my most helpful mailinglists for this problem. I have had assertion failed errors from make before and never understood what they were or where they came from. But now that I have them consistently for ffmpeg and mplayer on everything smaller than FC2, which prevents me from updating both mplayer and ffmpeg (and I know lots of other
