rsync 3.0.x with Windows VSS-support
Hi Folks, Recently I took the patch Elias Penttil? wrote and 'forward-ported' it to rsync 3. For people who don't know what it does, it implements backup of open files on Windows with rsync. Because I think rsync 3 is more efficient and more current in comparison to rsync 2. I made a small readme-page with information about what I've done so far and the

processing Dovecot maildirs with shell scripts
Hello, I have a postfix server which uses procmail as its delivery agent to deliver incoming messages to several maildirs. For several reasons, not really relevant here, I need to process/refilter/sort again the content of these mailboxes before delivering the messages to the _other_ maildirs which Dovecot sees and serves to local or remote imap users. Basically, I need to write some shell

dovecot.index.log in Maildir/cur
I'm seeing two bogus messages appearing my Maildir/cur directory. They're dovecot.index.log and dovecot-uidlist. -rw------- 1 gsexton users 51 Feb 4 09:04 Maildir/cur/dovecot-uidlist:2,S -rw------- 1 gsexton users 244 Feb 4 09:04 Maildir/cur/dovecot.index.log These files are only appearing in the Maildir/cur directory, and not in any other directory that mail is delivered to (e.g.

LDA directly to Maildir/cur
i'm tired of dealing with buggy clients so i'm moving more processing into the server-side. i configured procmail as LDA with maildir-style mailboxes. i would like to simulate an automatic "mark as read" feature during procmail processing. simplest way looks to be forcing delivery directly to Maildir/cur instead of Maildir/new, but i suspect this may screw up dovecot. will

Samba clients fail after reboot
Hi all, since three weeks ago, whenever one of our Linux client gets rebooted, it can't get access to a W2K domain anymore. Everything is working, nothing is changed in the configs, the Linux machines are simply rebooted. Does anyone know whether tehre is a security update or so on w2K that causes this? Another strange thing is that once in a while for an unknown reason loggin in to the linux

mbox to Maildir conversion
I've been running a mbox solution using UW's IMAP server. I've run it for years. Now do to heavy message volumes, I've decided to to take the plunge to convert to the Maildir format. I am currently testing a single user, and have successfully converted the mail messages from mbox to Maildir format, and now I am setting up the procmail tool to place the messages into the correct

Procmail and dovecot interactions
Hi, I'm using procmail to deliver to Maildir directories: DEFAULT=${HOME}/Maildir/ I notice dovecot keeps a 'dovecot-uidlist' plus cache and index files, in each maildir. How is it that dovecot keeps these up to date when the contents of cur/ keeps changing? Is dovecot scanning cur/ every so often checking for changes? Isn't this slow for large folders (100k+)? I note on the

dovecot Maildir issue
I'm working on switching a domain from a Cyrus+postfix+procmail to Dovecot+postfix+procmail (using Maildir). It works great, except one small problem. I cannot figure out what the permissions for my Maildir directories should be. Can anyone point me to a doc or just a few pointers on what the permissions of the Maildirs should be? The only way I seem to be able to make this config work is to

How to create rules?
Hi, I have dovecot installed and working fine. I would like (server side) a rule runs on all messages and if it finds certain words in the message it will run a script which will send a new email. How can I create these rules? Do I need another piece of software? Thank you, Romeo

list all emails from command line?
This is not strictly Dovecot question, but a more general IMAP one. I'm running a Dovecot server and have a user who is claiming that some email sent to him, say, on 30 May, showed up in his mailbox on 02 Jun. I've checked Postfix logs, and the message was correctly received on 30 May and passed to Dovecot. A similar issue happens every few days. This leaves me with two possibilities:

ACL ignored for master users
Hi there! I can't get ACL working for master users. Login as master user works fine though, and I am able to access any mailbox using the auth_master_user_separator "*", tested e.g. via Python's imaplib: import imaplib imap = imaplib.IMAP4_SSL('imap.example.com') imap.login('foo at example.com*admin-acldemo', '**********') ('OK', [b'Logged

dovecot mailbox to csv
We (the Math department at the U of Wisconsin) recently switched over from another server to dovecot One thing that a lot of people here do is set up an on-line form that sends them email. They use formmail for this. I have them edit their procmail config so that all the messages go into a particular mail folder.... So far so good. With our old system, all messages in a folder were kept in a

new mails don't always show
Hi, I am having some trouble with dovecot (0.99.14) and maildir. Some users are reporting that sometimes, they don't get (pop3, various clients) new mails for a while even though they should. I checked and confirmed this: mails were delivered by MTA (sendmail, procmail). But when the problem existed, the new mails were in cur/, not new/ and dovecot would not report any new messaged to the

Fixed a Duplicate?
Greetings We have recently switched from mbox to Maildir so that we can implement symlinks for a large email account that is shared (partially) between some 20 or so users. The setup is dovecot-1.0.3-6.fc6, procmail-3.22-17.1, sendmail-8.13.8-2. Procmail has a single recipe in /etc/procmailrc that simply says "DEFAULT=$HOME/Maildir/". The problem is that I am seeing a lot of blank

[LLVMdev] DragonEgg 3.0 with GCC 4.7
I've been trying to package DragonEgg for Fedora Linux. Fedora 16 has LLVM 2.9 and GCC 4.6, but not the necessary GCC patches. If I build LLVM 3.0 on Fedora 16, then I can build DragonEgg 3.0, and it works fine. However, I can't submit that to the repository. On the other hand, Fedora 17, which just entered Beta, has LLVM 3.0 and GCC 4.7. I wasn't able to build DragonEgg 3.0

IMAP messages not being marked read
I recently moved from Fedora 13 to Fedora 14 and consequently to dovecot 2.0.8. Since then, I have observed that messages are not being marked as read in all cases. The general behavior is: 1. Use my mail client to read all unseen messages. All mail folders show no messages unread. 2. Tell mail client to check for new mail. 3. Mail client now says that some folders have new mail (1 or more

setting quota through IMAP
I'd like to set the quota of a user through the IMAP protocol. I use Pythons imaplib: imap.setquota("test1m at uni.dtr", "(storage 8192)") ('NO', ['Quota can be changed only by admin.']) So... which user is the "admin" user in a virtual user setting (passwd: PAM, userdb: LDAP)? Help sought for email problem
My home server is running CentOS-7.1 I'm running postfix and dovecot on it. I collect email from a few sources with fetchmail and move it to ~/Maildir/cur/ with procmail. Or at least, I did do this. For some reason procmail has stopped doing its job, and the email that I collect is finishing in /var/spool/mail/tim/ I can't work out what has caused this, or what the cure is. I haven't
