Clients show .subscriptions folder
Since upgrading from dovecot-2.1.rc1 to dovecot-2.1.rc3, some clients
are showing a .subscriptions file in the user's mbox path as a folder.
Some clients such as T'bird on Mac OS X create this file listing
subscribed mbox files. Other clients such as T'bird on Windows XP show
this file as a folder in the folder list even though it cannot be
accessed as a folder (dovecot returns CANNOT

Phantom message using mixed namespaces
Hi, all.
At home, I have a mailbox where mbox is the default (for inbox and some
smaller mailboxes) and all my lists are in a Maildir format.
I'm building a mailstore server at work where I want to use Maildir as
the default mailstore, but I want to keep mbox on the side to aid in
archiving messages.
My configs are as follows for mail location and namespaces:
Home:

Lock ups: recent, anybody else?
Yesterday, did the following. Two lockups since then. Recent freetype
had just cured some anomalies and now this. One lock while I slept, the
other a few moments ago while active at the KB. Had Evolution, Firefox
and T'bird open among two users on a single X console. No unusual stuff.
Desktop install, fully up-to-date 4.3, i386 (Athalon).

Trouble with password scheme module
Hi, all.
About two and a half years ago, I wrote a hack to add an additional
MD5-based password scheme to Dovecot, but I wrote it as a hack to
src/auth/password_scheme.c since it was relatively easy to do, and I
needed to get a machine running since the machine I was replacing, a Sun
Ultra 5 running Post.Office, had dying hard drives.
Now, I'm actually sitting down and adapting it as a

observations/qestions of mbox concurrency ability (Yay!) on current CVS
Hi, all.
Just been testing out the latest "CVS" (in quotes because I'm rsyncing
the source
tree) versions of Dovecot lately.
Tested having Pine on the machine on which Dovecot was running, talking
IMAP, as well as another Pine instance, this time from my Windows machine
over the wire. Things seem to be working wonderfully. Deleted a message
using one instance, then refreshed the

Debugging password schemes
Hi, all.
I managed to get my new password scheme routine written, but a couple of
things:
1. The example module lacks an init routine. Since I used it as a
model, my module also lacks one. As such, my newly-built module is seen
but not registered. In the meantime, I moved the routines into
password-scheme.c instead where I had access to all the MD5 routines
already set up for me.

offlineimap with dovecot: file-time is one hour in the future
I use offlineimap to sync my remote IMAP-server with my local
IMAP-server (maildir format).
But I don't understand this behavior:
every new mail in the INBOX has a file-date which is one hour in the
future.
Is this 'normal'? Is this a problem of offlineimap?
I tried this debugging (for dovecot):
mail_executable = /usr/lib/dovecot/rawlog /usr/lib/dovecot/imap
and this (for offlineimap):

Migrating from Maildir to Maildir:LAYOUT=fs
Hi
I have use dovecot together with offlineimap to download my gmail
account on a single user computer and I have only one maildir
(~/Maildir).
As I switched to Mac, I would like to use spotlight to index my mails,
which apparently does not work as they are in hidden directories
(.directories). So I would like to change to LAYOUT=fs. Is there an easy
way to migrate my email structure? I have

Timeout during APPEND
Dear list,
I am running dovecot 1.2.15 on a Debian server.
One user reports continuous problems synchronising her mailbox via
IMAP (offlineimap, via SSH tunnel or SSL socket). It seems that she
has a large, locally-created message, but the uplink bandwidth seems
to be not enough to push it before dovecot times out the APPEND
command.
The error/exception happens inside offlineimap's Python

Filtering spam in an offlineimap + dovecot setup
Hello,
To easily access my mail both offline on my computer and on my phone, I
am synchronizing a local copy on my computer using offlineimap. As the
spam filtering options provided on the server are not sufficient, I am
now looking into client-side spam filtering.
My current setup is as follows. Mail is synchronized using offlineimap,
and delivered to a local dovecot server:

Dovecot 1.0-stable .deb file?
Hi, all.
I know that there's no official Dovecot 1.0-stable .deb, given Timo's
recommendations. However, does anyone have even an "unofficial" deb of
it for, say, Sarge? I want to use 1.0's ability to use both mbox and
maildir; the latter is very helpful for dealing with mailing lists.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Ask about IMAP UID
Hi all,
I am new to dovecot. I am trying to use offlineimap + dovecot + gnus for
some emails on multiple machines.
I need to use org-mode capture links on emails.
I want to know if the same email will have the same IMAP UID on different
machines given that they are synced by offlineimap to a local maildir and
served by dovecot respectively.
Best,
Shiquan

sync with gmail?
Now that gmail added imap, I've been trying to see if I can sync gmail/imap
with my local dovecot maildir. I've been trying offlineimap. So far, I've
created a loop resulting in a directory with size > 1000000 entries.
Anyone try this and have a working setup?

message status changed from new to old on read
Hi. I'm new to IMAP, but just tried uw-imapd and then dovecot in
conjuction with offlineimap. I'm using Debian package version 0.99.14-1
and have my mail in mbox format.
One of the first things that annoys me about both programs is that as
soon as you read a mailbox over imap, the imapd changes all "new"
messages to "old". It seems to have the assumption that the

offlineimap with dovecot and sieve
I have a dumb question, is it possible to use this combination:
Synchronising a remote IMAP-server and a local dovecot-IMAP-server by
offlineimap (with both types = IMAP), which works very well.
But it seems, that my sieve-scripts on the local dovecot server are not
recognised by this combination.
Is there a good debugging way for this?

Maildir from offlineimap, INBOX folder created
Hi, I'm using dovecot to serve up a Maildir created/served by
offlineimap. The layout is typical (as far as I know) of maildirs, with
the root folder having cur, tmp, new, and subfolders being a folder
within the root folder. Since I'd previously used Evolution to access
this maildir, my subfolders were actual subfolders (separator /).
Anyway, it all works spiffingly well, except that I
