Need subfolders - convert to Maildir & how?
I just installed Dovecot and it is working great. But I need subfolders. Does this mean I need to convert to Maildir format? I found several tools to do the conversion, but is there anything that needs to be changed in Dovecot to make the switch? Any advice appreciated. Thank you, Michael Hipp Heber Springs, AR, USA

INBOX as mbox, other mailboxes as maildir
All, I'm trying to teach dovecot to use the mbox format for /var/mail/%u and maildir for /home/%u/Mail/ but I'm having quite a hard time. This is Dovecot v1.0.beta3 under OpenBSD 3.9 on sparc64. I've been fiddling with default_mail_env and also tried separate namespaces, but all to no avail. Here's some of the things I tried : default_mail_env =

Advice on converting from Mbox to Maildir?
Does anyone have advice or pointers on good documentation on how to convert a system from using the Mbox format to using Maildir? I recently upgraded to Fedora Core 2 from Fedora Core 1 and discovered that UW-IMAP was gone. So I switched over to using Dovecot. So far so good. But I would like to convert my system to start using the Maildir format. How easy is this to accomplish? Can I keep

mbox or maildir?
I am using dovecot in an SMEServer (aka e-smith), and recently backed-up on one system and restored on another system the imap email directories. The trouble was that dovecot "guessed" the mail type wrongly, and I ended up with "empty" ~/Mail directories (did it create or populate these?), and full, but ignored ~/Maildir directories for every user. Could someone point me

Server going crazy!!!
I have dovecot-0.99.11-1FC3.4. I use Pine on the server and Outlook 2003 on remote computers to access IMAP and POP3 to access via my blackberry 7100t. It seems that after using IMAP and then going back to pine it somehow refreshes everything and all the messages are picked up on my blackberry once again as if the emails are new. So everything that is in my inbox is now pushed or grabbed

Maildir/mbox on a per-user basis
Hello, The Wiki indicates that Dovecot can do either mbox or Maildir on a per-user basis: default_mail_env can be overridden in userdb for each user. This works with userdbs supporting the "mail" attribute (eg. passwd-file, SQL, LDAP). How exactly does one do this for passwd-file? Thanks, -Jon -- Jon Nathan jon at rupture.net

0.99 mail env
Greetings, all Last night I migrated our mail between two machines... both running dovecot 0.99.xx. In the process, I wanted to make some small changes, namely that new mail be delivered to mboxs in /var/mail/%u and IMAP mail stored in Maildirs at ~/.imap ... I tried using: default_mail_env = maildir:~/.imap/:INBOX=mbox:/var/mail/%u But had no luck. Is it only 1.0 that can work with two

mbox and pop3, maildir and imap
Hi, Been reading a lot of posts about dovecot configuration, but can't really figure out if what I want is even possible or how to achieve this. My setup is simple : One linux machine that collects mail from my provider and sorts them for me and my wife, where my email is stored in Maildir format in ~myuser/.maildir and my wife's email is stored in mbox format in

INBOX as Maildir and folders as mbox
Hi, I was wondering whether anybody has managed to get Dovecot 1.0 to store INBOX as Maildir and folders as mbox. I've tried something like default_mail_env = mbox:/folders/user/mail:INBOX=maildir:/inboxes/maildir/user:INDEX=/indexes/user but it doesn't seem to work (treats INBOX as mbox). I'm hoping to move some INBOXes from mbox on local disk to Maildir on nicely-mirrored NetApp

Migrating from mbox to maildir, which converter is compatible with dovecot
Hi, I'm testing/debuging the migration from mbox to maildir in a mailserver running Dovecot 1.0alpha5. I migrated all 472715 emails(in a test server) and later noted that dovecot could not get the same flags/status of the emails as in the mbox. I was using perfect_maildir.pl and I think its not dovecot fault. Seems to me that perfect_maildir.pl convert the emails in a way that dovecot could

mbox & Maildir
Hi, Is it possible for a client to read both mbox and Maildir formats from one server running dovecot? Without changing default_mail_env in dovecot.conf, Maildir folders are working ... they're located in ~/Maildir. No /var/mail/username exists. I have mbox format folders in ~/mail and have been trying to get pine to find them by adding pine folder collections. I always end up back in

Moving to Dovecot
Hi there, I'm currently running IMAP with Courier and POP3 with Solid-POP3d. I'd like to migrate IMAP and POP3 to both use Dovecot. All this works fine in testing, except for the fact that I have two types of users for legacy reasons. One type of user has a Maildir-style inbox at ~/Maildir/ The other type has a mbox-style inbox at ~/Mailbox Is it possible to make Dovecot look for

migrating from mbox to maildir
Hi all, I have a locking problem in a Centos 4.4 linux machine with the following config: dovecot-0.99.11-8.EL4 postfix-2.2.10-1.1.el4 I use virtual mailboxes with postfix currently I have dovecot with mbox as this: default_mail_env = mbox:/var/mail/virtualmail/%d/%n The problem is that mail is being delivered to mailboxes very very slowly (sometimes up to 4 hours). In my logs, I have tons of

mta/mda config
Hi all, I'm at the stage of planning our new mail system and am evaluating dovecot for it. For large mailstore setups, it makes sense to split maildirs across many directories. I see that setting default_mail_env to something like maildir:/var/imap/domain/%1d/%d/%1u/user/%u/ would create almost identical on-disk layout as multidomain cyrus setup. Now, as dovecot does not have its own

mbox bug in 1.0.0
Hi folks. We're moving users from rc24 and 27 to 1.0.0. On four mailboxes so far we've seen these errors after the move (quick and dirty anonymizing follows): Apr 23 13:22:41 server.umn.edu dovecot: [ID 107833 local6.info] imap-login: Login: user=<USER>, pid=<9046>, method=PLAIN, rip=***.***.***.***, lip=***.***.***.***, TLS Apr 23 13:22:41 server.umn.edu dovecot: [ID

INBOX as either mbox or Maildir
In Dovecot 0.99, I recall somewhere I read it was possible for INBOX to be both a Maildir and an mbox in the same configuration (either automatically detected, or depending on the existence in a different location). Perhaps I was wrong, I'm not sure. Any way, I now became interested in this sort of setup: Most users have their spool an mbox in /var/mail/<username>, and then they

outstanding issues with 0.99.13
hi list, i'm in the process of testing dovecot before a hopeful switchover from uw-imap/qpopper to dovecot, primarily to get off of the uw-imap/mbox combo and moved to Maildir. i think we've worked out the logistics to avoid any service downtime, with only a short window of a few minutes per user for when we convert from mbox to maildir format. however, during testing a few issues have

maildir and /var/spool/mail/$USER
I was told to use dovecot because it was easier than cyrus. I just upgraded from fc1 to fc3. I am not sure what fc1 used but I think it was cyrus and it worked perfect out of the box no configurations to do. The new cyrus-imapd is not so simple so I got dovecot. I see examples saying to use mbox=~/mail:INBOX=/var/spool/mail/%u but when I try that I cannot map mail folders that reside

mbox folders
I just upgraded to Fedora Core 2 from Fedora Core 1. Discovered that UW-IMAP was replaced with Cyrus. Not quite ready to switch to that mail box format so I instead installed dovecot which comes with Fedora Core 2. The RPM version is: dovecot-0.99.10.4-4 The problem I am having is that it seems to want to put folders in: ~/mail/mail/ I would like the folders to be in: ~/mail/ Currently in
