maildir and /var/spool/mail
All,
Not sure what to do next. Have imap working in that I can see messages
in inbox. When I create a folder it won't create one. Looking at maillog
shows that I don't have rights to folder /var/spool/mail/.sent or
whatever folder I am trying to create. I have procmailrc and
dovecot.conf point to /home/Maildir but for some reason something is
tied to /var/spool/mail. Of course I am

dovecot + postfix + freebsd help
Hi. I'm currently setting up dovecot to work with my server.
My inboxes from postfix are stored in
/usr/var/spool/mail/ and then the username, so for me that would be /
usr/var/spool/mail/viktor
my homedirectory is /usr/home/glemme/homes/viktor/
so from what i can understand. My settings should be:
default_mail_env = mbox:%h/Mail:INBOX:/usr/var/spool/mail/%u
But guess what, I am probably

Hello all.
I appreciate the responses to my problem on v0.99.14. Thank you all.
We have built a new server running version 1.0-0_15.beta9.el4. The mail
delivery agent is sendmail. We seem to have

Dovecot 1.0 POP3 login but no mail
Dovecot is installed on the hosted FC1 server I have, it was working fine
until yesterday when they had to bounce the server. I can login fine from
Outlook or connect telnet <hostname> 110. But even though I can see sendmail
has received mail into my %h/.maildir (via webmail's user mail facility)
when I log into dovecot via Outlook it does not retrieve any of it.
I tried from W2K

mbox vs maildir
I am a little confused and maybe if I figure this out I will be able to
get this to work. I am now able to get my pop3 working but not imap. My
inbox is in /var/spool/mail/%u and my mail directory is /home/%u/mail and
then all the 'folders' are there which are actually files. Is that
maildir or mbox? Which do I have to use for dovecot? Or can I use
whichever I choose. I would

Comments about LDA wiki page
I've just tried out Dovecot LDA. The reason I didn't want to use it before was
that I found it unnecessary together with Exim, plus I wanted to use Exim's
filtering. But now I wanted to see if can notice any improvement when the
indexes are updated on delivery, and I saw that it's possible to use Exim
filters and pass the resulting folder with -m.
Now, correct me if I'm

Newbie Q: Setting up under linux: Spool directory.
I am trying to set up dovecot under linux. (RH9 if it matters). I'm
having trouble having it find the mail that is already delivered.
What I would like is that mail is delivered by fetch mail to
/var/spool/mail/mclay (that me) then have dovecot find it. I'm sure
that I have not set the dovecot.conf file correctly. The documentation
is unclear as to what "mbox" is and

Can't change permissions for /var/spool/postfix/dovecot.index.log
For some reason i can't change the permissions on /var/spool/postfix/
dovecot.index.log from postfix to dovecot, or anything else.
I changed all the files in /var/spool/postfix to be owner postfix so
that postfix wouldn't complain about insufficient priviledges.
I'm running MacOS X 10.4.7.
I can change it all I want, but the owner and group changes do not
'stick' - they

/var/dovecot /var/spool/mail permissions, setup help (w/ config info)
(repost gmane message as list member)
I need some help with Dovecot-1.0rc2 on Gentoo Linux. My test harness is one
Thunderbird-1.5.0.4 client, storage using legacy mbox directories ported over
from an old UW-IMAP/sendmail combo running on RHL 8.
Config is intended to be passwd/pam, plaintext login allowed (until I migrate
everyone to ssl). After this is working, postfix and dspam are to be

INBOX at /var in maildir storage format
Hi
I'm trying to figure out how to set default_mail_env to support such config:
INBOX is in '/var/mail/%u/' (note last slash at the end, %u is an folder with
new/tmp/cur subdirs - standard maildir structure).
Other imap folders are stored as files (in mbox format) in direcotry '%h/Mail/'.
Please advise.

FC3 or FC1 (or something else?)
Hi
I wish to install asterisk 1.2 (the latest tar.gz from the site ....not the
CVS version) on an HP box with a TE110P (single port E1/T1)
My question is which OS would be preferred in this configuration Fedora Core
1 or Fedora Core 3, and are there any install guides out there that are
recent enough for asterisk 1.2
I am also open to suggestions for other Operating Systems if any of you feel

Kernel 2.4 or 2.6 for the latest asterisk ??
Hi there
Just a quick question. I have been playing around with asterisk CVS-1.0.02
on fedora core 1 (2.4 kernel) and I would like to have a look at asterisk v
1.0.6 but am still a little uncertain which linux kernel is best to run on
?, can I use Fedora Core 3 (is it the preferred kernel) or should I stick
with FC1
Ps - the only additional hardware in the box will be a digium single port E1

We are experiencing an odd problem when using the combination of Quicken

When we open the "Split Transaction Window", the window appears to go
into an event loop. We are able to eventually break the loop by
clicking on the drop down window menu. Sometimes it will break out with

Asterisk is started with the default safe_asterisk script with a

The coloured text on this console is made up of weird characters

Dovecot does not access /var/mail when using Maildir
Hello,
I'm running debain on my machine with postfix, squirrelmail and dovecot
installed. Everything works fine and I'm able to access my mail via
squirrelmail and via Outlook with imap.
However I want to create subfolders what is not possible. After reading I
discovered that I use mbox and that maildir is needed in order to be able
to use subfolders.
I have created a Maildir folder with

Ext3 bad magic after upgrage FC1 to FC4
Dear All,
I have server with a 160G disk with one partition /dev/hde1. The PC had FC1
and everything was working fine. I decided to do an upgrade to FC4. Now I
can no longer mount that partition. I don't think anything happened to the
file system, but changes in kernel and modules due to the upgrade is now
making it inaccessible.
I tried:
mk2fs -n /dev/hde1
got a list of
