dovecot-1.0-beta3 in production
Hello there!
I've migrated our courier-imap production imap/pop server to dovecot 1.0-beta
few days ago. In general dovecot performs excellent, but i've encountered
several "bugs" in dovecot log:

A new test release for a change. Fixed several problems with indexes,
especially related to transaction log rotating (pretty easy to find bugs
when you set them to be rotated every 5 seconds and keep bombing the
same mailbox with 10 test clients).
Please report both new and old bugs. The changes might have fixed lots
of different randomly occuring problems.

Now checks that field alignmentations are in indexes as they're
expected. test78 crashed if it was wrong, earlier versions ignored the
problem (and crashed with 64bit systems). Now if it's wrong, it prints
error to log file and recreates the index. That means you probably
should delete all dovecot.index files to avoid tons of errors in log
files. Only mbox users

File Permissions and delivery
Hi
I'm very new to Dovecot (been using Courier for 5 years), but I've been persuaded of the merits of Dovecot and since the server needs upgrading that seems like the perfect time/excuse.
On a test server, I set up postfix and installed Dovecot (running 32-bit Debian Squeeze, installed from apt-get). I mirrored the mail store (Maildirs, for historical reasons located under

postfix+dovecot+sieve?
Quick newbie question... is anybody using postfix+dovecot+sieve?
Postfix doesn't natively support Sieve, and neither does Dovecot, so I'm
not quite sure how to simply add Sieve to my configuration. Thanks in
advance...

LMTP with virtual and system users
Hi,
I have a mailsystem where i have some local users with shell access and
full home dirs which receive mail and also several SQL virtual users
only for mail.
With the virtual users, everything works fine. Mail is delivered via
LMTP and also sieve works :)
The SQL Lookup knows what to do with username at domain.com
The problem is the system user. If exim delivers the mail to the lmtp

using pdMAT in the lme function?
Hello. I want to specify a diagonal structure for the covariance matrix
of random effects in the lme() function.
Here is the call before I specify a diagonal structure:

+ random=~1+I(Ln.nar-log(0.0011)|STUDY.CODE,na.action=na.omit)
and this works fine. Now, I want to fix the covariance between the
between-groups slopes

backup mdbox best strategy
Hello,
i have to backup (tape library) a mailsystem with about 300.000
Mailboxes on 2 backends. Summary of all mailboxes are 2 TByte.
The mailstore is mdbox.
Is it save to do a simple filesystem backup (full and incremental) with
backupsoftware?
What is the prefered strategy to do a backup for desaster recovery
(mailsystem crash) and restoring single usermailboxes?

Disable maildir indexing and dovecot-uidlist on LMTP/LDA delivery
Hello all,
Is there a way to use LMTP (or LDA) so that maildir index and
dovecot-uidlist are not updated?
My setup is such that mail delivery sees user's maildir as write only. This
setup works well when using postfix for mail delivery, but when I try to
switch to dovecot LMTP the lmtp process wants to read the dovecot-uidlist
and fails on insufficient privileges. Is there a way around this

Unoffical Survey - What MTA/Spam filtering do you use?
I like this unofficial survey of hardware but wondering what MTA and

other servers as well. (junkemailfilter.com)
I'm using Exim 4.61

Some version of DSpam that I'm experimenting with
Most of my spam filtering happens on the Exim level.

I am preparing to convert my main client's postfix_courier-imap setup to
dovecot 2.1, which currently just uses the postfix virtual delivery agent...
Does anyone know if the use of LMTP

is it necessary lmtp and director to avoid index corruption in mail delivery?
Hello all,
If I have several postfix/dovecot-lda boxes with shared nfs storage, how director helps in this scenario? is it necesary to use lmtp instead of dovecot-lda?
With postfix/dovecot-lda boxes incoming mail happens at the smtp layer but director redirects are working in the lmtp/imap/pop3 layer.

LMTP delivery honours .forward by default?
I was under the impression that Dovecot does not look at .forward by
default, since of course, Sieve is where that kind of logic should go.
However, I'm seeing a .forward file being honoured by the LMTP delivery
agent. Is this to be expected?

Storage upgrade maildir suggestions?
Hi,
we start to run out of diskspace soon as our users start to keep mails
for longer time periods. That's fine, but space consuming.
The maildirs are about 1 TB in total, and not long ago we enabled zlib
which is very nice.
Now I have some thoughts about the next steps:
a) Migrating the whole system to a new server with more storage?
b) Install a virtual server for the mailsystem and an
