location of .subscriptions
Hello, I just installed dovecot (1.0.10) to replace UW-IMAP. So far almost everything works. But I need shared folders (mbox format). I hope I've set up everything but when a user subscribes to one of the shared folders a file .subscriptions with perm 600 is created in the parent directory of the shared mailboxes ("namespace public" below). As I understand the docs that file should

IMAP subscriptions - how, for what and why?
Again, not a Dovecot issua - but can someone clarify better what IMAP subscriptions (SUBSCRIBE/UNSUBSCRIBE/LSUB) are and what they are used for? I've seen a few times in Microsoft mail clients, the options to subscribe to folders and to "show only subscribed folders". I haven't played much with them, though. But what's the actual point? Except for being returned in the

problem with subscriptions file version 1.0.1
Hello, I am currently working on a patch to add IMAPdir support to dovecot. (For those who do not know, IMAPdir is exactly like Maildir except that instead of having a folder .foo it would just be foo. The advantage is that the file system is slightly easier to search through without the dot in front of the folders.) The first thing I did was get the configuration file working for Maildir.

dovecot rpms, .subscriptions file, mbox to maildir
Hi, I am running dovecot 0.99-14 on a Fedora Core 2 machine. I had a few questions: 1) I wanted to upgrade to the dovecot-1.0 release. However, I am not sure if that's really required. dovecot-0.99-14 has been running very well for me for quite some time. Is there a real advantage to switching to the latest release. The reason I'm asking this is because: i) I don't have too

subscriptions or .subscriptions?
I may have found a problem with the documentation concerning the subscriptions file. On the Dovecot web site there is a document that outlines the conversion from UW IMAP to Dovecot. The document says Dovecot's folder list is stored in ".subscriptions" However, I have found that Dovecot's folder list is really "subscriptions" without the preceding dot. Did

namespace hierarchy
Hi, I'm migrating from Courier to Dovecot and would like to keep the original namespace and add two new ones on the new server. There's only one namespace in Courier which is "INBOX." . The seperator is "." In the new server I would like to have 3 namespaces (private, public, shared) and use "/" as separator. Is it possible to keep "INBOX." for

BUG (and suggested fix) in maildir code
Hi all I'm using dovecot 1.0.rc15 to serve a maildir by IMAP. I have an IMAP subdirectory called subscriptions. The messages are in maidir/.subscriptions/cur/ etc. Dovecot is renaming the directory .subscriptions/ to subscriptions/ This means that when my IMAP client requests this directory, it gets the message "no such directory", and dovecot also gives the error message:

dovecot? putting wrong seperator in subscriptions file
My config has folders show up in the root namespace as well as hidden ones like mail/ for compat. In thunderbird when I set the namespace prefix to mail/, I effectively cannot subscribe to folders. You can pull up the folder list, select some folders to subscribe to, hit okay, and nothing changes in thunderbird: 3 subscribe "mail/Spam" 3 OK Subscribe completed. 4 lsub ""

Permission issues with subscriptions
I am having some permission issues with my setup and I can't see where to make the change in the configuration files. My users can not create folders at all from their email clients nor from the web interface. I have noticed that each time I try to create a folder the subscriptions files permissions are set to 000. If I go back and reset the permissions to rw-r--r-- then everything is

Shared folder not listing
Hi Timo, I've got a weird problem on our dovecot. We're trying to setup private shared folder access. I have 2 users. tom at mailbox.com and system at mailbox.com. I have set the ACL's on all the folders (and subfolders) on system at mailbox.com. However, I'm not getting any of them listed when I check tom at mailbox.com <mailto:tom at mailbox.com's> 's IMAP

Bug: subscriptions file does not take on the same perms as dovecot-shared
All, Version: 1.1.rc5 Solaris x86 on ZFS Shared Folder Bug, renamed a folder with sub folders (Maildir format) After the rename the subscriptions file is own by the person who renamed the folders, and access is owner rw only. Instead it should be the same as dovecot-shared which would general be rw owner, and rw group for a shared folder. Cheers Damon.

2.1.1: subscriptions: Removing invalid entry
Admittedly, it's not a valid folder name and dovecot is right in removing it: Feb 28 17:50:05 postamt dovecot: imap(kbaessle): Warning: Subscriptions file /home/k/b/kbaessle/Maildir/subscriptions: Removing invalid entry: Entw?rfe ...but when looking at the subscription file AFTER the removal, that file contained an empty line. I don't think that's correct. -- Ralf Hildebrandt
