Dovecot Migration: Retrieving/Logging POP/IMAP Passwords in Plaintext
Hi List I'm currently in the process of migrating my dovecot imap/pop users to a new server and have to extract their passwords in order to import them into the new system (different password encryption schemes). I've tried enabling auth_* debug parameters in my dovecot.conf in the hope that this would result in logging plaintext passwords to the dovecot log. However dovecot does not log

logging of failed SASL usernames
as far as i understand postfix has no way to know the username of such failed logins like below, IMHO dovecot internally does because it verifies against the sql-userdatabase is there a way that dovecot logs the username? after ask the users to change their passwords for safety caused by Heartbleed it was easy to write a tool find forgotten devices in case of IMAP/POP3 but especially Apple

Dovecot lmtp doesn't log
Hi, Thanks for replying. initially logging was done via syslog, and the custom log file for mail.* facility was /var/log/maillog. Everything was logged normally (dovecot login logouts, sieve scripts, extra debugging lines) but nothing regarding LMTP. I would receive the email in my inbox but I wouldnt be able to see anything in the logs regarding this. After that i turned off syslog and used the

problem in setting up proxy
Hello, We're having difficulty with our updated cluster of dovecot servers accessing the email storage on the NFS mounts.? It seems index files get corrupted when 2 backend mailservers access the same account, and from documentation setting up a director proxy in front of the backup servers.? I'm trying to just set up a straight proxy first, which the documents say is the first step, and

[PATCH] virt-v2v: Add verbose message logging
As a followup to the discussion on verbose logging for virt-v2v, this patch adds basic verbose messages in the main virt-v2v code. As Matt pointed out, the usefulness of these messages is limited as the time spent outside of data copying is trivial. However, when converting smaller guests, these messages can act as progress markers and show where time is being spent. (As I already added this code

Logging and libwrap
Hi, A few things regarding logging and libwrap.. a) PAM_RHOST patch Back in July, dean gaudet helpfully posted a patch to dovecot PAM_RHOST the remote IP. Is this going to be included in the main dovecot tree? It seems like a worthwhile addition. The more informative and concise the logging the better. See http://www.dovecot.org/list/dovecot/2004-July/004011.html for the original message.

Logging authentication failures when Dovecot's auth service used to authenticate postfix smtpd
Hello, tl;dr: Is there a way to get dovecot's auth to log failed smtp authentications without having to switch on "auth_verbose"? postfix version 2.11.0 and dovecot version 2.2.12 I'm currently migrating my postfix+courier to postfix+dovecot and so far it's working as expected. Except for logging smtp login failures. Despite Postfix logging successful authentications (see

Why does dovecot reject password when authorizing by a certificate?
I have added "auth_debug_password=yes" to "10-logging.conf" and restarted dovecot.?But I do not see any information about the password in the logs. Does this mean that the thunderbird does not send the password??Although it asks for the password and I enter one. The pattern I really want is less clear for debugging. In postfix/main.cf I have: mailbox_command = /usr/lib/dovecot/deliver -c /etc/dovecot/dovecot-postfix.conf -a "${RECIPIENT}" I verified through

Problem with mysql...
Hello, I am trying to run dovecot on my Linux. I am using an exim 3.30 as the MTA with vmail-sql virtual users. I have installed latest dovecot release and ran through the config file. Some options seemed unclear to me, but generally I think it is OK. The problem is, that MySQL authentication does not work. It even does not try to authenticate! Dovecot connects correctly with MySQL database,

not enough information in the syslog
Although I set `auth_debug = yes' in the dovecot.conf, the line about my uid being too low was never logged by the server. Neither KMail nor Mozilla showed me the rejection message, that dovecot was giving them. I had to ktrace the process to see it and adjust first_valid_uid down. Yours, -mi
