Puppetmaster be client of another puppetmaster?
Is is possible to have a puppetmaster that is a client of a different
puppetmaster? We manage our customers'' server via puppet, but one customer
has a puppetmaster server which looks after their internal systems. We''ve
tried the following in /etc/puppet/puppet.conf ("customer" and "us"
replacing the domain names) on their puppetmaster:

Lag on network using Samba
I am using Samba for a file server and get a lag when accessing files
across the network, I assume it is due to inactivity, because the first
file I access takes the longest to access, and then other files I access
immediatly after are much faster. If I do not access any files for a
while I get the problem again. It all works well, but I would really
like to get rid of this Lag when opening a

Domain members list
Using Samba 3.0.2a as a PDC, I wanted to add a domain user to the
workstation's local 'administrators' group. I logged into the
workstation (Win2K) as the local admin, and browsed the domain for
usernames. The domain members list seems to contain every entry in
/etc/passwd - how can I restrict the list to just those people for whom
the command 'smbpasswd -a xxxxx' has been run?

slow mailbox refreshes
Hello,
I am using dovecot 2.3.2 on my private email server in conjunction with:
centos 7.5
apache 2.4.6
mariadb 10.2.16
roundcube mail 1.3.6
php 5.6.36
postfix 2.10.1
I have one mailbox with nearly 30k messages in it dispersed across
several folders. it's often very slow in refreshing the message list,
especially in the one largest 25k+ message folder. is this simply to be

Subfolders of Inbox with LAYOUT=fs
We've just converted to LAYOUT=fs. Some users had subfolders under Inbox,
and for those users some MUAs no longer show those folders.
The directory structure is that the cur, tmp and new folders are in the
'location' directory, but the subfolders are in
$location/INBOX/$foldername.
I am suspicious of this:

module dependencies
Is it possible to make a module a dependency?
We have a "base" module that contains packages, configurations, etc, that
should be processed before other modules, and I''m looking for a way of
enforcing a dependency on everything in the base module without having to
explicitly list each package, etc.
Thanks,
Keith

How to unsubscribe

That's not at all clear (quite apart from the double protocol prefix). A
lot of the potential audience of this list "know" how Mailman works, so
why have you broken that knowledge by delivering to those who have
disabled mail delivery?

I have disabled mail delivery in Mailman.
I'm still receiving the list mails.

Lock file /var/lib/puppet/state/puppetdlock
I''m just starting a roll out of Puppet and I''m seeing a problem on maybe
25% of client nodes. The symptoms are that the clients stop updating. In
the Puppetmaster log, I''m seeing things like:

Samba spawning excessive smbd processes.
Hi,
We're running Samba (3.0.28-1.el5_2.1) on a Redhat (5.2) server using
winbind to authenticate against a Windows AD.
This all worked fine for a while. But now we have the problem that
(some) users coming from Linux clients cause an excessive amount of smbd
processes. We had 1 user who had more than 1700 smbd processes all
coming from the same client. While on the client side there

Excessive imap-login and pop3-login processes
I'm running a Linux mail server with Postfix and Dovecot. I've noticed
that the number of "imap-login" processes usually sits around 240, and
"pop3-login" usually around 50 or so.
The comments in the config file seem to indicate that, with my setup, I
shouldn't see more than about 10 of each. Am I misunderstanding the
config or is this expected behavior?

Samba 4.7.1 - ldap multi process - excessive processes
Hi,
It's a known issue, where the extent of memory accumulation for
processes wasn't understood (large chunks of memory, which tend to fail
to be shared) until just after the release froze. There are patches
upstream to implement a prefork process model (with a fixed number of
waiting processes) and should be available in 4.8. In saying that, some
considerations could be made for

Bizarre failure of samba shares to XP
OK, this one is really strange, and I'm not sure where to go with it. Here's the setup ...
Main box is running Debian testing/sarge with samba 3.0.5. Earlier it was 3.0.4 and 3.0.2. Very generic installation for home, acting as a file server for several XP Pro boxes, and everything has been running swimmingly. Using USER security, with users logging in to the XP boxes with the same ID

Samba 4.7.1 - ldap multi process - excessive processes
Hi,
with the change in Samba 4.7 that ldap is now running multiple processes
I'm having resource constraint issues.
Before it was fine to run any number of clients against samba, but now
the ldap clients are limited.
My server quickly ran out of memory!
1) Is there any solution exept adding more RAM?
2) One process should be able to handle more than 1 connection! This is
an archaic

"Virtual" routing
Hello.
Is it possible to create different routing policies
for "virtual" (as opposed to a real NIC) interfaces?
I mean: be able to set up different rules for each of
the "dummy0", "dummy1" interfaces, and/or aliases to
the "lo" interface like "lo:0", "lo:1", etc.
[For example, I assigned a zone (called "priv") to a
