serialized attribute converting to string on reload
Hello, Anybody help me out? I done googled it good and didn''t find anything (which should mean that I''ve done something wrong). Not much code to talk about here, quite simply I have an attribute that is serialzied and when I update it, irb shows the object and my methods run on it as it were indeed so. Though when I reload it changes the data to a string. Not yaml, just one

Understanding NT Groups and UNIX Permissions with Samba Shares
Hello, I am having some problems understanding a few concepts in Samba while trying to use samba-common-3.0.0-14.3E, samba-client-3.0.0-14.3E and samba-3.0.0-14.3E on RHE 3.0. Basically, I have security = domain. My system is running winbind, I've added the winbind calls to nsswitch.conf. I can get my wbinfo -u and wbinfo -g commands to show me what I want. That all seems happy. I have a

As I've said before...
Don't say I didn't warn you: http://digitaldaily.allthingsd.com/20100520/googles-royalty-free-webm-video-may-not-be-royalty-free-for-long Don't get me wrong, I'll be as ecstatic as any of you to see Theora and VP8 succeed, I just see the patent system as far more insidious than I think many of you do. Using the 'WatchSubDirectories' setting in a .NET FileSystemWatcher with a Samba Share
Hi all, I've just managed to upgrade to Samba 3.3 and am pretty ecstatic about finding i can now use FileSystemWatcher to watch for file changes in a directory. On a Windows system however, when I say 'watch $dir' with watchsubdirectories == true and $dir/a/file.jpg is changed, I get a filechanged notification - on Samba 3.3 this doesn't happen - does anyone know if it's

OT: Bandwidth calculations
Hi, I know some of you are very experienced as to the working of networks. I wondered whether there is some accepted way of determining bandwidth needs based on the network traffic over time. For example, looking at the figures for the network traffic through the server interface, we have hourly, daily and monthly figures. If everything were linear, taking the hourly figure and dividing it by

Capture of iterative integration output
Hello, I am a novice R user and am having difficulty retrieving the values from 21 iterations of the R function integrate. The only way I have found is to do a write.table and then a read.table as shown in the code below. I would rather capture the 21 values inside the braces ( sapply might work, but I can't set it up without getting an error in function) so I could compute the

Specify attr_protected
This is kind of a two part question. Question One: I want to be sure that an Order model is protecting sensitive attributes from mass assignment. The example looks like this: describe Order do it "should protect total attribute from mass assignment" do @order = Order.new(:total => 0.05) @order.total.should_not == 0.05 end end And the code to implement it: class Order

Release of centos-3.3 ISP bill
It turns out that the release of Centos-3.3 was so popular, that it threw us way over the threshold of our ISP's, and now we are stuck with a _very_ large bill (as in an estimated 6TB of transfers). While in one hand I am ecstatic that we are so successful, but on the other hand, that is coming out of the developers pockets. The developers should be the last ones footing these bills (and this

Help using smooth.spline with zoo object
Can someone please show me how to smooth time series data that I have in the form of a zoo object? I have a monthly economies series and all I really need is to see a less jagged line when I plot it. If I do something like s <- smooth.spline(d.zoo$Y, spar = 0.2) plot(predict(s,index(d.zoo)), xlab = "Year") # not defined for Date objects and if I do something like

Spybot Search and Destroy
Hi everyone, thanks for taking the time to read my post. I am using ubuntu 8.04 DRBL in an IT setting that has wine 1.1.16 installed with Spybot S&D. We use it to PXE boot virus-infected computers to scan them without threatening a real installation, and without the hassle of live-cds. Spybot has a switch (/allhives) that detects multiple windows installations for scanning, and the switch

Dependencies in 5,3
First off, I want to express my appreciation for the dedication of the CentOS developers for providing us with the quality work they always do. This is a question and a request for explanation so that my little mind can understand what's going on. And for those inquiring minds who want to know, I have already filed bug reports. ;^> Over the weekend I went through several boxes here at

Hi ! my question is how to totally switch off the Ices2 logging into the Icecast server ? I wan't to use ices only to save archives (24h/d), without any streaming, but when I try start Ices, see: [2005-01-19 17:27:05] EROR stream/ices_instance_stream Failed initial connect to localhost:8000 (Couldn't connect: Connection refused) and Ices clears buffers etc. and shuts itself down :-(

Is this bad hardware? Dahdi-v-X100 clone
I've spent a week playing with Asterisk 1.6 and I love it. What a brilliant piece of software! Progress and learning have been reasonably good. I have external SIP provider calls coming in and have put together a little call platform and I'm stunned at the flexibility. There is one issue for me. I took me a while to click that ZAPTEL now equals Dahdi, but now I'm there I have an

Wish List: has_many :dependent => {}
I am after a nice way to disable (not destroy, delete nor nullify) all associated records. I''m a hoarder, I don''t want to get rid of anything but I want to stop records being visible. I have a disabled boolean in my tables and if I disable the top record in the association (say the association is 5-6 levels deep), I would like to cleanly disable its children. I''ve

Samba/LDAP Domains and multiple File Servers
Hi All, I have a domain setup soon to go into production. We have 3 buildings, each containing a fileserver for that buildings users (home drives/share drives). I've been using the smbldap-tools on the PDC, which is all working fine. Is it possible to join another server to the domain, also using the smbldap-tools, with a different config, that will setup a users home drive, etc on
