Dovecot, Squirrelmail and KMail
I just installed Dovecot and squirrelmail to read my email when I'm away from
home. I subscribed to all the folders in my mail directory but I can't
actually see any email. Is this a dovecot issue or a squirrelmail issue?
I'm running KMail from KDE 3.1.2 and use Debian (Testing) on a Digital Alpha
and installed both squirrelmail and dovecot using apt-get. I had to set

Maildir folder hierarchy question
Hello all,
I am trying to set up Dovecot to use a particular
maildir folder hierarchy and have a problem that
relates to the inbox.
the folder hierarchy I want in /.../Maildir/ is:
.inbox
cur
new
tmp
.imap.index.files-for-inbox
.sent-items
cur
new
tmp
.imap.index.files-for-sent-items
however the hierarchy that dovecot gives me is
.inbox (unused)
.INBOX
.imap.index.files-for-.INBOX

Dovecot -- basic setup
Hey all,
After some kind soul made me understand what I can expect from Dovecot,
I feel really embarassed for not being able to set it up correctly.
What I already had was ~/Mail, containing about six maildirs. Exim got
mail, delivered it to procmail, and procmail dropped it in my inbox; a
needless extra step that I keep for future, ehm, needs that I might
start to care about when I can just

Problem with dovecot on home LAN
At present I get email directly on my laptop
in /var/spool/mail/* through uucp.
I'd like to get the email in the same directory
on my desktop (alfred), and then run a mail server on the destop
and collect the email on my laptop (william)
(or on other computers on my two little home LANs, ethernet and WiFi).
I was advised that dovecot was a good imap server for this purpose

INBOX as mbox, other mailboxes as maildir
All,
I'm trying to teach dovecot to use the mbox format for /var/mail/%u
and maildir for /home/%u/Mail/ but I'm having quite a hard time. This
is Dovecot v1.0.beta3 under OpenBSD 3.9 on sparc64.
I've been fiddling with default_mail_env and also tried separate
namespaces, but all to no avail. Here's some of the things I tried :

default_mail_env problems
sorry if this mail is a duplicate - I am testing the new mail system!
I am having problems setting the default mail environment.#
I am using Fedora Core 2 with version dovecot-0.99.10.5-0.FC2
My users all have an NFS mounted home directory, and all mail is
delivered to ~Mail/.mailbox it is all mbox format.
I would like to put the indexes on the local system in
/var/indexes/{username}.
So I

Kmail client desconnection
Hi all,
I have a Postfix+Dovecot working in beta/testing; it seems to run very
fine, but one beta-tester user says that kmail informs him about
frequent desconnections.
My dovecot -a shows:

POP3 fails on non-existent inbox
Using the latest RPM (dovecot-0.99.10.5) on Fedora Core 2. I connected to
the server by POP3 for a user who'd not yet received email (ever) so she
didn't have a spool file in /var/spool/mail, and dovecot was failing on
login.
I just tested it by removing my own mailbox and see this in maillog:
pop3-login: Login: ken [127.0.0.1]
pop3(ken): stat() failed with mbox file

Masking INBOX.INBOX
I am using dovecot and trying to make it compatible with my a BincIMAP
installation. BincIMAP uses a scheme similar to Courier-IMAP, so I set
up this default_mail_env:
default_mail_env = maildir:~/Maildir
And this namespace:
namespace private {
separator = .
prefix = INBOX.
inbox = yes
}
Which mostly works as expected, but I now see an "INBOX" subfolder of
"INBOX" in

Dual INBOX Locations
G'day list,
Just a quick question - I need to configure Dovecot to do the following:
* check default_mail_env for the users' inbox in MBOX format
* If the above fails, serve the user an inbox from a secondary location,
in MAILDIR format.
I have read up on Namespaces, however I can't seem to get this to work -
login just fails when Dovecot cannot find the inbox in default_mail_env

imap problems; error accessing inbox and some other folders
Hello all,
First off, please let me apologize for cross posting this in both the
fedora and centos lists.
I have just run into a problem with imap that's becoming a real issue.
About two or three days ago some of the mail folders became
unusable/unreadable. For instance, my inbox shows 41 unread messages when
I access it through pine on the server. But if I imap into it from

rc7 bug? [Was: deliver LDA and INBOX location] (fwd)
Anyone had any thoughts on the item below?
If the problem is with my config, I'd like to be guided towards how I
might resolve it.
If it is a bug in rc7, it would be good to fix it, and I'd be happy to
beta-test.

deliver LDA and INBOX location
(OS: Fedora Core 5; dovecot: 1.0 rc7)
On a typical UNIX-like OS, the INBOXes are in "/var/spool/mail/" using the
user identifier: so user 'fred' has INBOX "/var/spool/mail/fred".
We have a well-established different convention which subdivides this,
based on the last two digits of the uid: "/var/spool/mail/12/fred" (for
fred's uid as something ending

Hi there,
I am trying to figure out hte Proper defualt_mail_env definition
default_mail_env = mbox:%h/mail:INBOX=/usr/mail/%u

namespace problem
Hi all,
after an update from dovecot beta version to 1.0.0.-1 today morning I
had different effects:
thunderbird-, kmail-, Apple-clients, pine and squirrelmail could
receive email correct with imaps. But not MSOutlook!!!
Varying the namespace configurations in dovecot.conf I got different
results with MSOutlook working but with thunderbird, squirrelmail etc.
all folders are displayed but not

FETCH for mailbox INBOX UID 39641 got too little data: 4823 vs 4825
Whenever I try to access an e-mail in the middle (rather than at the end) of
the mailbox, my mail-client (KMail) gets an error a message like this is
logged in the maillog:
IMAP(mi): FETCH for mailbox INBOX UID 39641 got too little data: 4823 vs 4825
IMAP(mi): Disconnected: Disconnected
The actual numbers vary, but it is always X vs X+2
The problem started when I upgraded to 1.0.8.

INBOX at /var in maildir storage format
Hi
I'm trying to figure out how to set default_mail_env to support such config:
INBOX is in '/var/mail/%u/' (note last slash at the end, %u is an folder with
new/tmp/cur subdirs - standard maildir structure).
Other imap folders are stored as files (in mbox format) in direcotry '%h/Mail/'.
Please advise.
